Research Timers - Overkill?

So, All the crafters out there have been talking about 24 and 32 day trait researches. In my humble opinion , This seems like overkill. I can understand 12-24 hours to research a trait. But a month? Half a year? For a single trait?

I know this makes crafting a "Specialized trait". And this would be good, if people actually went to others in order to get these items from these "specialized" Crafters. However they don't, making the current system not only pointless, but frustrating since there is not even a way to pause or cancel your trait research if you decide you need one that is more important, and you are essentially locked out of doing anything with the research until the month or however long it is, is over.

Being locked out of your trait line for such an insane amount of time is just nuts.

I believe that something needs to be done about this:

Total time for 100% 8-trait once you have 3/3 to reduce the research time by 20% is ~4 1/2 months. That's NOTHING in an MMO time scale. No the timers should remain the same and no we shouldn't be able to research more than 3 at once, sorry man.

EDIT: There's already players, like myself, that have 5 or more pieces of 8-trait done now at the 3 month mark.

They start off fine, but then just jump up by stupid amounts.
I'd say 3 days should be the maximum research time (then just level everything out between shortest / longest time.

    They'll never change this.

ZOS needs some way to keep you subbed. To you it's an investment. To them it's another incentive-reward to keep you coming back. It's both cheap and clever. ;)

The point is it is a specialised trait, no issues what so ever with having to invest in getting to the pinnacle.

What I would like is to be able to see what I can craft without being at a station AND being able to craft the different sets without having to go to a specific location in the middle of no where. Would be better to have a small quest to unlock the knowledge to craft the set.

    It is working as intended.

    It's a MMO.

    ZOS did a good job.

It is a marathon, not a sprint race.

    Thank you.

    Have a nice day.

There has to be long term benefits to crafting. As it stands most crafters are probably at 6 traits on most, working on the 7th and 8th on a few. Some might have had a focus and reach a set of 3 with 8 traits within days.
Unfortunately the 8 trait sets are quite poor and has to be reworked to prove that crafting will stay beneficial. Some more 8 trait sets will be added as well to give people with odd builds like melee combat something to drool in anticipation.

This is my idea of how it should be.
Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

    1 and 3.

Trait Timers are a good time sink, I love them. I wish the "max" time were 12 days. With perks, 10.

If not that, then making 5 traits in the line would be just as good.

I don't mind the time sink at all. I would like more options though.

    Within; Without.

As another previously posted, research is suppose to take long. I really don't get the new MMO generation these days, asking to get to a certain point at such a faster, shorter time.

They don't? I often see people looking for crafters in my guilds. The 8 trait pieces could use a boost, it's true, but it's not like all crafted sets are completely useless.

    Yes, they do.

Bah, I wanted to vote for the second option. You can simultaneously research up to three traits in the same craft (blacksmith, woodwork, clothing) if you've unlocked the skills.
