What Vet Content Should Have Been - Solo PVE 'Endgame'

TL;DR version

-Make 50 current max level, veteran ranks just for vanity
-Gear scaling would top out at 50
-Veteran zones would be solo endgame for the extra skill points + gold + veteran rank vanity stuff
-Make respec system cheaper because more focused builds would be necessary and skill changes would be more frequent
-Change Vet Dungeon and Trial gear acquisition systems to promote long term use

The way I see it, the main problem with the current version of vet content is that they set up their itemization/level system so that veteran ranks are needed to be considered a max level player. The increase in stat softcap threshold and relative power of your gear is too high for any one to consider the Vet Zones as endgame instead of the path to max level. I think most MMO players like to get to max level fairly easy but then there needs to be multiple ways to continue progressing your character (endgame) and it needs to take a considerable amount of time. Usually this endgame is some sort of long term alternate advancement or various forms of gear grind (faction grind, token grind, rare drops, etc). People like to complain about grinds but the facts are a lot of MMO players need to chase the carrot or they won't see the point and get bored.

Veteran ranks should have still been tracked, but they would be an achievement or vanity thing instead of granting any extra power. This way, the Veteran zones would be entirely optional, but still be the solo pve version of endgame for skill points + gold + vanity crap such as titles/dyes/crafting styles/etc. This way you would have Vet Zones for solo endgame, Vet Dungeons and Craglorn zone for group endgame, Trials and whatever else is coming next for raid endgame, and Cyrodiil for pvp endgame.

Of course there are a few tweaks they would have to do to various parts of the game. I'm not sure exactly how many skill points I had when I completed my initial faction, but I think it was around 110-120. They could bump up the amount of skill points you get in your initial faction but honestly that is enough to create a fairly focused build that can still perform in situations it was built for as well as someone with 300 skill points. I do think that they would have to change the skill respec cost though, as switching your build around would be a lot more common.

I'm probably going to get a fair amount of disagreement with this point, but I believe they also would need to introduce a long term loot grind system where you could get really lucky and get that awesome gear to drop (the playing the lottery aspect of raids) but there was a steady and consistent token system that guaranteed you gear after completing X number of clears. There should be a form of this in both the Vet Dungeons and Trials.

Now I'm not saying that lvl 50 needs to be the max level forever. They should monitor the population to see how quick they're gearing out, and plan big expansions that raise the level cap when the median player get close a complete set on a single character. I also believe they would have to make the trials and future raids quite a bit longer even for the top groups, however, as gear grinds like this usually require dungeon cool downs.

Anyways, just my two cents.

Agreed. They should have made them full on levels, or vanity. None of this half and half.
