My ESO Ranting Narrow Selfish Biased Opinions, July 3, 2014

My current list of ESO annoyances, expressed as narrow, selfish, biased rants and opinions:
  • When I dismount from my horse to harvest, my character just stands there. I clicked on something to harvest, which caused the dismount, but then my character just stands there. Sometimes.
  • When I sell something in the guild store, the email giving me the money doesn't tell me what sold. I -know- it's possible for this information to be included in the in-game mail, but it's not.
  • When in combat, for no damned good reason, I cannot swap my weapon. I could swap it a few seconds ago. But not right now, when I need to, so that I don't die, no no, I can't.
  • I can't respec individual skill morphs that are completely broken. Instead of paying 100g, I get to pay 10-25k gold, and that's ridiculous to switch to one un-broken morph.
  • I can't turn off my shoulder slot visibility, even though I can turn off my helm. Guess what? I should be able to turn them all on and off!
  • I can't choose what my armor looks like, there are no appearance slots. Why are there no appearance slots? My awesome armor is now bright green? WTH?
  • It rains inside buildings.
  • I can't finish that zone because that quest is bugged.
  • I can't finish all the achievements in the game because specific Cyrodil areas are required, and I don't play for those alliances.. how am I supposed to do that on the same toon?
  • I have 6 ultimates, and only two don't suck horribly. Why aren't all ultimates.. you know... Ultimate?
  • My two handed sword does less damage than any other weapon/combination. In fact, it's not even close.. :(
  • I want to use axes, but if VR fights aren't over in 20 seconds, you're probably dead, so what's the point of bleeds?
  • I want to use procs on my weapons that aren't the flame proc, but they all suck and are less effective.
  • Why does it take 8 legendary boosters to make a legendary item, but only 4 boosters to make something Epic, when the stat/power increase from Epic to Legendary doesn't justify 8 legendary boosters?
  • Why is light armor so much better than heavy or medium?
  • Why is offensive so much better than defensive?
  • Why do group dungeons have entirely different combat mechanics than the entire rest of the game, and yet no rewards commensurate with forcing players who want to consume this content to completely change their playstyle to succeed?
  • Why are dropped gear sets so much better than crafted gear sets?
  • Someone in my guild mails me, and 100% of the time, I have to switch characters and/or relog in order to get the mail. It's been broken like this for 3 months.
  • My Hirelings don't delivery my mats unless I'm online. Why don't they deliver them every 12 hours like the 3/3 Hireling tooltip states?
  • I used to get legendary boosters from refining. Now? Nope.
  • I used to get legendary boosters & tomatos from Hirelings. Now? Nope.
  • I try to use heavy attacks with my restoration staff, and every fight where it matters, it bugs out. The staff starts light attacking "nothing", bugs out, and I can't attack anything for a random period of time. It is guaranteed someone is going to die during this period, if I am a healer.
  • Even when skills are in range, I can't use them.
  • Even when skills are in range, and aren't highlighted (they're dark) that I can use them, I can use them? uh, what?
  • The amount of experience I get for armor and weapon skills varies randomly from one fight to the next, even against the same exact creature, using the same exact armor, weapons, and abilities. Sometimes it's 12 experience, the next fight, it's 487 experience. From fighting the exact same creature. Then the next time, it's 312 or 270.
  • I use skills on creatures, it consumes magicka, but the effect doesn't fire. I press it again, it doesn't fire. I press it a third time, it fires. I have now used 7/8's of my magicka bar for one effect.
  • I block an attack and it removes 33% of the health of my character. Wow, I'm glad I blocked...
  • I have 500 Honing Stones and there's absolutely no way for me to use them. They're not worth selling, because everyone else also has 500 Honing Stones. Same goes for Hemming, Pitch, etc. and yet blue boosters are worth ten times as much.
  • I want to use alchemy, but after going through to VR10, I don't have enough skill points, even though I've done every dungeon once, am only using one armor skillset, and one weapon skillset. 200+ skillpoints isn't enough if you want to do all crafts and have an even slightly flexible combat character. Where am I supposed to get the other supposed 120 skill points?
  • Why can't my chatlog setting be permanent? Even the add-ons that are specifically for logging chat don't work to have it on, all the time, forever.
  • Why isn't there a timestamp option for all chat?? What is this, 1992?
  • If I didn't use add-ons, I would never play this game. The add-ons are the only thing that make the UI bearable.

Thanks for reading. :)

Yeah, not knowing what item or stack of items sold in the guild store drives me nuts. Glad I'm not the only one.

With regard to crafting, I think its fair to say that you should have to specialize at least a little. Did you spend points in Fighters guild? Mages guild? Soul magic? If you are making a character to craft them all, I don't think you should be surprised that you don't have enough skillpoints. At that point you are a crafter, you're not really a hero. Heros bash thing over the head and shoot lightning out of their fingers, they aren't people who can cook, brew delicious wines and beers, make magical potions, hammer steel, sew, carpentry, and enchant magical artifacts. I can understand the point behind a lot of your bullet items, items I'm sure its good the devs be made aware of (This would be good for a feedback post) but with regard to knowing everything, I don't think that's necessary. At the end of the day some uniqueness between characters is a good idea, and it will help social interaction if all our characters are not the same.

good points, agree with most of em... as for the 120 skill points... I'm assuming you're talking about the claim that there are 300+ possible skill points? Are you saying you are at 180ish and can't find the other 1/3 possible? If so, I would love for someone to comment on that. Where would those other points be?

Maybe they're taking a moment to ponder life, and all things good about ESO.

Group Dungeon completion gives you a skill point - So for each factions dungeon you get a skill point per dungeon in each zone. Some zone have 1 dungeon and others have 2. At VR ranks I could do these with a friend on normal for which you gained a skill point. I am not sure if that has been changed.

Certain quests provide you with skill points - Again this happens for each faction and I do not know how many specific quests reward skill points. Would be nice to find out which ones those are.

Don't forget about Skyshards in Cyrodiil. Other than that I can think of no other way to obtain skill points. I hope this helped. :)

You're not supposed to be able to be a master crafter in every area and still be a flexible combat character without putting in some real effort.

As others have mentioned, though, you have clearly skipped over some potential skill points. My best guess would be public dungeons, faction quests and skyshards.

    1. From what I understand, the amount of exp you get from a fight isn't based simply on winning or losing, but on how well you actually fight. Block at the right time, interrupt at the right time, dodge at the right time, and you'll get more exp than if you simply swung away with light attacks until the enemy falls over. I actually sort of think that's a neat idea.

    2. Good. You should have to specialize in a crafting skill, and shouldn't be able to do them all on one character. Heck, IMO you shouldn't be able to do 2 of 'em on one character.

    @Mordria and @Kulthax‌

The reason I asked about the skill points is because the OP had stated they were VR10 and had done every dungeon. If you're at VR10 there is a good chance you did the other factions... Though I do recognize some players find other ways to level.

I guess my concern with my question was, are a significant amount of skill points locked up in cyrodiil and trials?

There are skill points available for every rank of PvP (not too many, as far as I know, and 15 skill points available through skyshards. I'm not sure if any Cyrodiil quests grant points.

There are ~326 SP in the game today, right now. The issue some people have is 50 of those are from all 50 PvP Ranks and there's 15 more (+1 Skyshard) from Skyshards in Cryo, which most aren't terribly upset about, except the 4 behind the other 2 Faction's main bases. To do FULL Crafting on one toon and have 2 polar opposite weapon swap builds like DPS main, Healing off or Tanking main, DPS off requires about ~230 or so to get all of what you NEED in all Crafting (some points are useless like Keen Eye for Enchanting) and all Passives in all Trees that you actually use for those 2 weapon swap builds plus all used abilities morphed as well.

OP, awesome post and I certainly agree with much of what you said. The good thing is many of those are/have been on ZoS's known issues and/or to-do list(s).
