I love this game

And I would love to discuss the technical aspects of it somewhere, such as cast times, delays, frames, dps, ehp, builds and counterbuilds in pvp, pve content and strategies, spellweaving skills for faster attacks/casts, and just crunching numbers really. I haven't found anyone talking about this part of the game, just people complaining or saying how the game should be.

There is a reason for the lack of focus on theory crafting. The main one being that Z/B removed most of the real information gathering ability from the API a long time ago. Another reason is that so much of the game's skills are flat out broken, or not working as described.

So, with such limited and defective information available, why bother.

Because I believe if people actually paid attention to the game and how it works, they'd find the game to be much more balanced. Honestly, this game seems so wide open for people to actually play it and not complain about facemashing dks and chainlocking sorcs.

Balanced? I don't thinks so. There is a reason the running joke on TESO is that it stands for "The Elder Sorcerers Online".

All the promises about "Play Like You Want" have turned out to be so much hot air.

These days, it could also stand for "The Elder Scrooges Online". Given the paucity of loots in the game.

Tamriel foundry has some conversation on mechanics, or did in the past at least.

I sort of stopped checking up there because most of the theorycrafting is revolving around wearing cloth and using staves. I understand this is the most powerful combination, but not what I envision for a warrior or thief archetype.

I love this game too. Still low level - 30's - and haven't hit the controversial VR levels, etc but I play the much slandered weakest classes in the game - Nightblade and Templar - and I am enjoying myself even when it's a struggle (templar mostly).

the only thing that irks me is the inventory management. It's tedious and even though I think I make good choices about what to keep and all that, it think I spend way too much time moving/deleting/transferring items between mules and all that. Gets in the way of a good time.

Tank = medium/light for stamina regen. 1H shield is fun
    DPS = light destructive/heals or 2h/heals or dw/heals
Heals = light resto/desto or light resto/1h for dmg mitigation

There really aren't that many viable builds to prosper in PvP at the moment, PvE although many disagree can be played basically however you want.

You may very well be significantly less effective than other builds, but they can be played.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I play a Nightblade so theorycrafting is kinda pointless because we don't really know what our skills do (if they even do anything).
Life of a Nightblade (Screenshot Tumblr)

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

The point of a discussion forum about this is so that people can explain their experience with skills and interactions with content and players.

My experience so far is that everybody has different opinions on what works and what doesn't. It would be near impossible to have a good discussion on the matter because a lot of people are dead set on the idea that their perspective is the truth.

I had one guy the other day complaining that all Sorcerors in PvP rolled with "Crystal Fragments" and his argument was that it was the highest single-target DPS skill available. The fact that not everyone is dead set on dealing single-target DPS suggests that not all Sorcerors spec the same way.
Personally I had more success with AoE skills such as "Velocious Curse" and "Volatile Familiar". However, that doesn't mean that "Crystal Fragments" isn't the best for PvP... it just depends on what your preferences are.

You might argue that everyone at a PvP rank that is worth noting has a cookie-cutter build... but if they all think like you and focus strictly on single-target DPS, obviously there's going to be a single build that is "the best" at doing that.

So, unfortunately, you won't be able to get a decent discussion without having half of the people involved calling each other idiots.

Give it time, the game is still very young. The game will continue to get balanced and people will start to experiment a little bit more. Some folks are still dead set on the idea that a Nightblade is a back-stabbing rogue and that a Sorceror is a robe-wearing spell-slinger.

    Well, ok.

How about a Templar skill that says the cast time is 1.5 seconds, but when I use it, it is actually 3 seconds?

How about when I switch weapons and I cannot do jack-all for an indeterminate amount of time, with no indication on the UI when I CAN once again do something?

How about when I go in for an attack and ALL my skills are now locked out. The only thing available is to run away?

How about when I am fighting a mob and it is actually already dead, but it is still standing there fighting with me?

    And much, much more.
    The list seems endless.

This is the only ESO forum that doesn't have a different forum for each class to discus the mechanics specific to that class.....Why is that?

So just adjust. There are actually quite a few beneficial bugs out there too, my favorite is the biting jabs attack cue bug. If I biting jabs, attack with bow, then venom arrow the last hit of jabs+both arrows hit all at the same time, resulting in insane burst when timed right. I imagine there are a few more bugs like this that just need discovering. But okay, I'll go to the foundry now :)
