Why did you choose your faction?

Just curious to see why everyone chose their faction. Was it simply because your friends chose it? Do you like the environment or lore better? Something else?

And if races were faction-locked in the beginning, do you think you would have chosen differently?

For me, I chose Daggerfall Covenant simply because Daggerfall was the first Elder Scrolls game I played, so that region holds a special place in my heart.

I didn't choose, I play all three factions, partly because I play all the classes, and that made sense.

If I had to choose I would have chosen Aldmeri Dominion, mainly out of curiosity about both the Khajit and the Altmer.

I chose AD because that's what all my friends chose. Otherwise, I probably would have chosen DC. Don't regret it, though. I liked the AD story line much better than the other two.

I played a Breton for the first time in Skyrim (played a Dunmer in Oblivion), and I wanted to see more of the area where my character came from. Really glad I chose DC, after doing all three factions, DC has my favorite quests and npcs by far.

I played DC throughout all the beta's and enjoyed the area, I often go back to just wander around.

I detested the AD area in vet, just did not appeal to me at all.

And so far glad I did not choose EB as I have fond memories of marrowind and none of it feels or looks the same.

Exactly the same reason for me. I feel connected to Daggerfall. Also, I always played a Breton in Elder Scrolls games; in role-playing games of any kind I tend to choose "human" as a race if available, or as human-like as it gets, simply because, as a human, I can relate best to humans ;) - and as I also like to play mage/sorcerer chars, Bretons are most fitting.

I selected the Ebonheart Pact mostly due to my love for the game Morrowind. While I play an Altmer Sorcerer (and in the future a Breton Sorcerer), he is very lore friendly and actually appears in Morrowind. More over, I quite like the Dunmer and Nord landscapes (the Argonian not so much, they're not horrible.. but eh). Furthermore, we have the Tribunal and the Telvanni mages, so the war has already been won!

It sort of sucks that the Breton are part of DC, are they are my favourite class!

A couple of friends and I were in beta together, and the first time we played, they picked Ebonheart Pact. I was a bit annoyed because I wanted to play a Khajiit (because cat), but I went with it. It was not an enjoyable experience -- the user interface didn't make sense to me (my previous TES experience is an hour and a fifteen minutes of Skyrim, of which an hour of that time was spent in character creation), I didn't enjoy the quests, and the drab atmosphere and snow didn't inspire any feelings of "look how pretty this game is."

The next day, I decided I wanted my Khajiit, so I started a new character in the Aldmeri Dominion... and loved it. The scenery? Beautiful. Khajiit? Awesome -- I had no idea they had that cute accent and grammar quirk going on. Plus, I actually enjoyed the quests -- in all honesty, that may have at least been in part because I really like to listen to the adorable Khajiiti accents. Also, I haven't played many MMOs before so this might not be saying much, but Raz was the first character in any MMO that I ever cared about.

It was this sudden change of heart that has made me loyal to the Dominion. :D

At the end of beta, I did try Daggerfall, and it was pretty cool -- however, nothing can beat the feeling of that initial switch from "ugh of all MMOs why do all my friends want to play this boring game" to "OMG this is the best game ever."

These might be the lamest reasons...

I joined Ebonheart Pact because I liked bleackrock isle.
And... I harvested chests during beta and knew every spot for them... xD

I wanted to join AD because it looks prettiest. So many colors. *-*

Even puchasing the Imperial Edition, I could have my Altmer in either DC, EP or AD. But I chose AD because well, I'm proud to have a female leader! Long live the Queen!

Aldmeri Dominion is my main choice, because I'm sick of the focus on humanity, and the general pro-Padhomaic/Lorkhanic bias of the previous TES games since... well, the beginning... I'd rather see a Merrish run'd Empire. Mainly because it does not happen... But that's just hindsight.

I relate more with the Altmer and Bosmer. I love their lore. Never played a Khajiit, but I find them fascinating regardless.

Second pick would be Ebonheart Pact. I dig the whole independent nations thing. The Dunmer, despite some of their negative extremities, have great rich lore, and it's a lot of fun playing a Dunmeri Daedric fanatic. Hate the Nords... If it's not about the Dragon Cult... then I just plain dislike them. Dragon cult's the only thing they got going for me to like. Argonians are neutral to me. I sympathize with them on their past being slaves to the Dunmer.

Daggerfall Covenant? I pretty much detest everything about them. From their politics, ultimate goals, and exploitation of the Orcs. Only reason I'll play them on an ALT is for RP, which I will do. But for the purpose of this thread? They are the one faction I dislike above all else.

I enjoy role playing as a Breton who intends to exploit both the Orcs and Redguards. Elven-Human hybrid superior race, FTW!!! In fact, I can already think of two decisions I made which were racially motivated. First, I kept the crystal in the starting zone against the Orcs wishes and fear of slavery, for the good of the Bretons and without care of Orc enslavement. Second, I let the guy who killed the dukes wife live, mostly because he was being manipulated by daedra, but also because she was a Redguard so I felt it wasn't a big loss at all. Are these decisions I would make IRL? Probably not, but I also wouldn't worship eight divines IRL either.

I rolled a Breton as well, mostly because I think the Orc's look like cartoon characters, and the Redguard armor just isn't my style. I do kind of like the feel of the Breton society. It has a very pre-French revolution thing going on.

    Three mains. Three factions.

I have absolutely no intention of playing beyond lvl 50, so I'll see each area and quest lines and then it's off to greener pastures, there are too many games out there to be grinding away my life in any one of them...

I chose AD because of the lore and environment.

Had I known about vet zones at the time, I would have cared less and would have picked the side with the most defensible home base areas.

    I chose Dominion,
Firstly, because that faction contained my class (yes we could play any class) but it just seemed right.
Secondly, during the early betas, I played a little of each factions storyline, Dominion was the one that I felt drawn to the most.
(that's why I won't run Cadwell's journal with my main) I'm not going to ruin my faction pride or immersion !

The factions are meaningless as far as I'm concerned beyond dictating which zones I'll be leveling in. As far as I see it they have no part in the TES world I've lived in for 14+ years and only exist here as an artificial basis for a totally unneeded PVP option.

I chose DC because i wanted to play the underdog in PvP. Sadly ob Bloodthorn they dominated the map to many times. Now we are cornered (last time i checked).

Also i liked the story /area's better then AD and i didn't want to start EP because i had my share with Morrowind and Skyrim.

I wanted to play imperial, but i chose Breton instead. Don't know why though, but i made one in beta and he looked so cute.
