Can we do something about AoE / heal spamming in banks and cities?

Here's looking at you, Rawl'kha.

For me, it's an annoyance factor. The sounds, the effects, and when everyone else joins in, it's all unnecessary and irritating. There's no reason to be healing or attacking anyone in a bank, especially not a massive AoE that lasts for 10 seconds.

However, it isn't just a problem of "is this annoying or not". For other people, this causes genuine issues with client/server lag and FPS, and because of the wonderful new loading screen bug, it can trigger those as well. I'm sure there's nothing more exciting than going to craft your new set of armor and being hit by an endless loading screen because some idiots decided they wanted to light up the forge with magic instead of coal.

So, I'm hoping we can find a solution in this thread somewhere. I have a couple of ideas, but I'd like to hear some of the community's first.

Well..they aren't leveling up their skills. You have to actually be in combat for that to happen. All they're doing is annoying other players.

I personally find people that have flying pets that take up your whole screen while you try to talk to an npc much more irritating than a child running around with too much energy.

Yeah, giant flappy pet in the bank is annoying as hell. For some people, I have no doubt that annoying people is the whole point. Personally, I think the act of stepping through the bank door should automatically disable any active pets, but with ZOS's shotgun approach of "fixing" things, they would probably rather just remove banks entirely...

Of course, Zenimax could make them 'magic free' zones. Problem solved. Then you just got the guys swinging their swords, shooting flaming arrows and emotes gallor. I personally ignore it.

I agree that it is quite distracting and may cause some people to have frame rate issues. The simple solution would be to disable animations in banks server wide. The underlying ability would still be there but the rest of us would not be assaulted by folks that want everywhere/all the time PvP.

With the upcomming Justice system, this poll and argument will become obsolete. Just drop it, when the Justice system hits, and they nail some poor NPC with their AoE and every player around them kills them, they'll quit.

Who is Rawl'kha? Are you breaking the rules, Naming and Shaming? Does this hurt you? Can you go to another bank? Can you prove you are being damaged? Why do you care if someone wants to heal others at the bank? Is there a reason to believe that this is an "issue" and needs corrected or is your belief just an opinion? Do you have support for your stance or just conjecture?

Rawl'kha is a city in Reaper's March. I mentioned it by name because every time I go there, someone's spamming some sort of spell over near the bank.

Does it hurt? Not really. I get a little tingly sensation in my feet when the lights hit them, but that's all.

I could go to another bank, but someone would likely be doing the same thing there.

I believe I saw my health go from 1,530 to 1,529.9, but I'll have to check on that.

I care because it is my party and I can cry if I want to.

Everything has a reason. Except when it doesn't. My belief, however, is fact. All beliefs are facts- just look at religion and politics.

I have some support, but I think I should work on the position of my legs. I feel like I'm sacrificing mobility for stability if I keep them too far apart, but I'll get knocked down if they're too close together. Fighting is hard.

No ability from another player should make the other draw their weapons. I don't know why ZOS has that in the game to begin with. Sure it's fun to mess with my friends sometimes, but noobs run around constantly with that. Yes, if you do that.. you are labeled a noob. :grinning:

This is the same as teabagging in PVP.
The only difference between this and a neighbors dog barking all night outside your bedroom, the dog does not know that it's actions effect others. The person knows this is annoying, and does it anyway.

Just like anything from someone seeking attention or trying to be disruptive it gets annoying.

They should just incorporate stuff like this into the justice system. I've always liked the feeling in past TES games when you come into a city and you know you have to watch out for the law.

    No, I don't believe it's an issue.
I was wondering if there was an actual purpose to doing this. Elden Root is a great place for this kind of stuff -- big open area in the middle where all the crafters/bankers etc. are out of range, but anyone can jump in and join the spam in the middle.

I did for awhile, and then it dawned on me that I had no idea why I was doing it.

How do you make people stop though?

As the OP used Rawl'kha as an example, may I point out that particular 'city' is frontier land. Even inside a building, you have to wait 10 seconds to log out, none of it is safe-zoned.

And no, I am far too old to be 'playing' with magic and I hate having wings flapping in my face in confined spaces, but heck, let people have a little fun.

Fact is, I make a trip to Rawl'kha a couple of times a day and I have only seen people shooting off spells outside buildings, never inside the bank. It doesn't cause any interruption when speaking to an NPC, banking or crafting (unlike the big pets that obscure view), so what is the real issue?

Hate to see people enjoying themselves maybe?

I can agree that the "pulling my weapon out" thing is annoying, but other than that, EVERY MMORPG that i have ever played, has people running around spamming buffs and spells, whether to show them off, or TRY to annoy other players. The simple fact is, IGNORE it and generally the NOOB spammers will get tired of not getting a reaction on the forums, and find something else to try and annoy you with. However, in the GRAND SCHEME of things, I would have to say that this is a VERY MINOR problem.

It's not an issue for me. In fact, I quite like it - I'm a big kid and enjoy all shiny, sparkly things. :P If only it wouldn't make me draw my weapon. However, if it's causing the kind of issues described in the OP, then I wouldn't be against restricting it somehow.
