From ESO release, I’ve been convinced that the game needed 3 more months to be balanced. And here we are, 3 months after release. A lot of players are leaving, many didn’t even manage to reach max level… others just faceroll all content…
Overall, the game is really good, graphic design, gameplay, lore, etc. Surely one of the greatest MMO that has ever been published so far, but still, far from perfect. It will never be, but there are some game design problems that really need to be addressed now.
First of all, I came to this game on the promise, I could play my character however I wanted to play it.
It’s true to a certain extent… I can create a templar in full medium armor with a bow. But I’ll probably be disappointed because unable to do VR quest content on my own. And after 12 rank grinding my character bashing mobs in public dungeons, I will never find any slot in a trial. At least I could still play in PvP.
Of course, there will always be templates which will be more efficient then others, but at the moment this is going too far.
In trials, tanks are (is) in light clothes, Nightblades are using staffs to be on par with others. Players are using macro to reach dps necessary to finish trials…
I think we’ve got a real problem here.
Armors need to be fixed:
Except for aesthetic purposes, there is no point wearing heavy armor. Overall, a light wearer will have more magical resist, he will cap armor if stuffed properly and will get a lot of advantage on magika management. It’s non sens !
Heavy armor needs damage mitigation and light armor wearers should be a lot weaker! Tanks need some “guard skills” to protect member of the group also. At the moment, Tank are useless in PvP and not so necessary in PvE either. Heavy armor is trash loot.
Coming to medium armor, it’s even worse… A medium armor wearer is not, by far, reaching dps of magika on long PvE fights and is a lot weaker than both light and heavy armor wearers… Putting dodge, block, interrupt on the same resource that is necessary to dps was a terrible choice…
For me, there are two options : giving (almost) infinite resources to medium wearer or put defensive skill on another new resource. Buffing damage as you did in last patch is not the issue, sustainability and survivability are ! (Buffing 2H damage in PvP, really ?!?)
PvE need to be fixed:
I’m raiding AA trial for 3 weeks with my guild now. We are a soft-core guild with optimization requirements but no class restriction or mandatory template (and we do not encourage people to use macro). We are unable to kill the fourth boss because we can’t reach necessary dps. We cannot compensate with our skills, it’s plain and simply dps requirements !
Give us pve content based on skills : dodge, focus, and sustain ! Not those braindead dps race !
Also, people leave the game because it lacks PvE content… Incredible when you see this impressive work on non-veteran dungeon… but so under exploited… Please put some VR12 mobs in those dung and give us proper rewards, it will be so much better than grinding over and over the 3 same dungeons to hope for a loot that never drop…
Reward system is a real problem. 50 VR dungeon runs on my side, still didn’t drop a single piece of the raiment worm set I’m interested in… And there is no way I’ll do it 50 more times to drop this f**ing set. Lack of luck may be, poor drop system for sure. No incentive to farm dungeons except for uninteresting killing achievements.
At last, give us tokens and stop this random loots from another dark age, please. We need adapted PvE content, more item sets, more reliable loot system, more skill, less dps race.
Classes need to be fixed :
As we can read on this forum every day, everybody is complaining about their classes. Either because they got nerfed or not buff enough…
Give people access to any class skill lines (with quests for example) and end this whining now!
Of course they will be cookie cutter builds, but there is already… What is the purpose of making classes, when you know that there will always be some guys complaining about it ? Which purpose does it serve when every body want to play “the way they want” ?
Some people can’t join raids just because HL PvE is so demanding you need perfect optimization to go through trials. Everybody should be able to get skills necessary to be able to fill role he needs to play.
Then, you can focus on fine tuning skill lines you want, but at least, people wouldn’t be prisoner of some poor class design development choices you make sometimes.
At last PvP need to be fixed :
A lot of people subscribe ESO because of its PvP. And it was great… at the beginning…
Now, most people subscribe empty campaigns where they got alliance domination, Scrolls and buffs for PvE and play in a few overcrowded servers in a zerg versus zerg fest. Celarus, is a dead campaign where factions, in a common understanding, organize rotation of emperor crowning. That is not the PvP I wanted to see…
There are too many campaigns, too long and people can swap their main campaign too easly. They need to be fewer, shorter and, as being able to join another campaign as a guest is necessary, you shouldn’t be able to swap your main campaign.
And… As much as I love PVE… There is too much PvE in PvP !
With VR5 NPC, it’s now almost impossible for an organized 12 men party to take a keep through the main door. And it can be hard even through postern…
People are zerging because pick up groups can’t take keeps on their own, and there is not so much incentive on taking mines, lumber mills, etc.
We need small party objectives and incentives! We need more dog fights !
I’ll just stop there, because I could go with a lot more, but I think this might be my top priority around the game for now.
Nothing new under the sun here, but I really hope you’ll help your game a little more in the near future…
