I love this game and I love MMOs and I love Elder Scrolls games. I dont like how an MMO has quests that you must do solo. Counter productive to a Massive Multi Player game..

That was actually a tough choice. really, I've played TES games in the past, and really enjoyed them (up through morrowind), but I've also played MMO's...and MMO's have been more solidly my preferred style of play.

But i love TES games and their design. so perhaps an option for "I play both, and prefer MMO" and "I play both, and prefer TES"

Oblivion & Skyrim before venturing into mmo territory. Gw2 being the only other mmo played.
Remember talk of an Elder Scrolls mmo back before Skyrim came out and was not fond of the idea.

There aren't many RPG games that I've enjoyed playing, but TES are some of them.

There aren't any MMO games that I care to play, other than ESO.

The differences between this game and other MMOs are what won me over. Things like no global auction house, limited inventory, limited HUD, and all the stuff that a lot of MMO players have demanded be changed, are actually the reasons I decided to play this MMO.

I think calling every game with lots of players an MMO is actually holding back the gaming industry. I think people have to get over the way MMOs have been made in the past and try new things. If every racing game was compared to Need for Speed, the racing genre would be pretty boring. That's how I feel about the MMO genre right now.

I would lie if I said that I played through each and every Elder Scrolls game in the past but I do know all of them.

MMO´s I play since about 1997, so that's 3 years after my first Elder Scrolls (Arena). To me playing with others in an open world just makes a hell amount of fun and already as a kid I met others to play together.

Our Resident Evil nights are legendary, especially when I jumped over a spider and crashed the PlayStation of my friend :'(

As I got older my time for gaming was limited for obvious reasons (love & sports), so that I did not play through each good game on the market including the ES games such as Oblivion, Morrowind and Skyrim.

That said, I owned my house, cleared a lot of dungeons and rode on my horse through the wilderness to stay in touch with the franchise.

So yes, my first games were offline (internet just didn't exist back then or was incredible expensive on your phone bill so that you collected free internet CD´s of AOL & co to get online ;)), but that was more based on what we had, than what we wanted.

I have fun with ESO, its a good mix in my opinion - a mix that sure can be improved ;)

I think many are missing the point of the options, it's not which you like playing best its which game type did you start playing first regardless of the play experience. Saying Both means option 3. I admit, his title is misleading to his options they don't coincide with what is being listed.

There needs to be another option.

-Started out as an MMO and TES fan.

First mmo experience was with WoW and played several others before eventually settling on GW2, moved to ESO after getting bored with GW2 endgame content.

First TES experience was with oblivion on xbox, eventually after playing skyrim, researched a lot of lore about TES.
I take pride in being an incredibly smart dumb ass, or an incredibly dumb smart ass, either way I'm awesome.

I started with Arena, and actually I usually avoided MMO's, but this project made me despise MMO's. I am sticking around only for the sake of the TES genre.

IMO TES should have never even have allowed anyone to start a MMO project. I just hope this experiment does not prevent future non-MMO TES projects.

MMO's have their own "group" and styles, whereas TES has a legacy to maintain and continue. Unfortunately ESO is a blip (I give a mulligan) in the legacy.

Had Zen maybe researched previous MMO's and worked a fix for the "typical" MMO issues prior to applying the TES model to their MMO it might have stood a better chance.

It may be wrong to say, but IMO, I believe the only way for ESO to improve is for the non-TES MMO players to move on and let the TES players (and those wanting a true TES based project) develop the project based on the TES genre and not on MMO practices.

What is the point of this poll? TES came out 3 years before the first MMORPG (UO Online) not Graphical MUDs. So older players in all likelihood played TES games before the first MMORPG.

Isn't the real question: Are you principally a TES or a MMO fan?

TES fan. Online games are fun, but not MMOs. They rank around the same as MOBAs for me. It probably sounds ridiculous to some, but I think even a TES FPS would have been more successful than this sinking ship.

Like a lot of people I started with Morrowind. I tried the Major MMo's WoW, SWTOR, Aion,Rift,GW2,Every F2P asian one that came out, couldn't find any that I actually enjoyed. Until FF14 1.0. That game may have had its problems but it had a lot of great mechanics in it just held back by the lack of content and the lag. Then they remade it and well.....Now I enjoy this one. I don't care about lack of endgame, or bugs, or glitches or anything else because I like the actual combat and upgrade system. I also think this has one of the best crafting systems in an MMO. But thats just me.

Did they actually change the game play in FF14? I thought all the complaints were because of the lack of ui rather than game play. All I know is that ARR was as bad as every other game they have put out since FF9

    Started with Morrowind.
Found thier game desing (a database with savegame and mods being differential images) absolutely fascinating. And they kept that design up too Fallout 3+4.

I played some WoW (on a private server) but found it not interesting.
Played Champions Online, DC Unvierse Online, Star Trek Online mostly because the settings were interesting.
    Played the ocassional F2P MMO.
The first MMO I played long term (1+ year) was SWTOR. It had lightsabers and fully voiced/choregraphed dialogs (even the player character). It even had a solid group conversation system. It was tripple impossible for me to not have liked it.

    Regarding ESO:
I did expect some birthpains from a new MMO, yet I still bought it shortly after finding out it existed (basically after one beta weekend and when my friends bought it too). I was wondering it took them so long to make thier game design to a MMO - it seemed the ideal base approach for that.
We see how long it holds my interest. The dialogs and theater scenes are better then the average MMO, but inferior to what they use in SWTOR.
But I do like the immersion hat the phasing approach creates and it was something I missed. Plus the TOS lore. Plus I can make addons.

This was difficult to answer... I remember playing Daggerfall well before my first 'real' MMO, but, at the same time, I played MUDS, which were essentially MMO's lol. My first 'real' MMO was Ultima Online back when there was Felucca and ...Felucca. LOL Still gotta say, the Daggerfall game was my first real <3 in a standalone game, and Ultima Online is still the greatest MMO I've ever played! Wish they'd make it graphically beautiful, I'd return in a hot second!

I don't consider ESO to be TES. I like to think of us playing IN the world of TES and enjoy it for that. It's our own little story. Makes me happy, but at the core of it, it's still an MMO. It can't be anything but.

I played Morrowind before starting to play MMORPGs.

But in the last 10 years, I played many MMOs, some over years.
So I know enough from "both worlds", and love MMORPGs, and TES.

But to be honest, the gameplay of ESO is not so great I would value it over other MMOs. I am here because of the TES setting.

I started with Anarchy Online, then I played Morrowind. When I was playing Morrowind I was amazed by the game but I felt lonely. I was already dreaming to see it become a MMO.

So I'm definitively a MMO player before a TES player.
