Feather Pillow with a Shield and Sword

Since I have reached Vet 12 on my Templar, I have crafted a good set of Armor.. 5 Heavy and 2 Light, all set gear for tanking, epic or better in quality.

However when in the Vet 9 or 10 zones ( finishing out the quest line ) pulls of 3 or more mob's are eating me alive.
I have tried shifting my skills around to try more defensive abilities or put more offensive on my bar and nothing seems to be making an Impact.
Most of the Defensive skills Increase armor. However my Armor. along with Spell resist Health and Hp Regen are all well over the Soft cap. so skills like defensive poster or of the like do not increase my stats much at all.

All my Enchants are for Magica and my hard hitting skills use Magica. but then I find myself in this predicament. if I drain all my Magica into damage it will not kill the 3 mobs, ( Maybe one ) but then I am taking so much damage with no way to heal I am nothing more then a Feather Pillow Hiding behind a Shield waiting for enough to regen to get off a heal. then I am now stuck in a stale mate of Hide and Heal or Try and fight and die.

Please if you have any ideas to Boost Survive-ability. or Damage output enough to not need it then I am open to Ideas.

Right now I use Sword and Shield MH and Inferno Staff OH ( and yes Impulse spamming getting me killed too )

So please help me see what I am doing wrong here

Best way to handle these mobs of 3+ is to use AOE crowd control. So basically, you disable 2 of the enemy and focus on the third. Or you disable all 3 at once and kill them off one by one.

I'm not sure what your exact build is, but both destro and 1h/shield do not have great AOE crowd control. Although destro has damage AOE abilities, they do not have any meaningful capability of keeping the mobs stunned or disabled.

Yeah this is a Major weakness for Templars. we do not have a AOE CC like DK's do.

    Yeah, that's true.

Well, there are two universal CC abilities that are pretty good.

One is volcanic runes. The problem, though, is that it's an indirect fire skill. So it's a little tricky to get it working when soloing.

The other is the bombard skill (morph of arrow spry) on the bow. It's the conal AOE that immobilizes all enemies on impact. I've seen quite a few templars carry bow around, and bow/destro swapping might be a good idea. Properly geared and relatively high level NBs can essentially keep the immobilization up forever using siphoning attacks to regenerate stam. As Templar, you can carry a few stam pots around or swap between bow and destro.

I use Immovable, or Absorb magic if there are more than 1 casters, as my protection pre-cast. I run in after casting Volcanic Rune. Hit Solar Barrage, Reflective Light, Biting Jabs, Solar Barrage, and Empowering Sweep. I weave Light attacks in between and block accordingly.

I tend to focus on Archers first, then melee, and then casters. If there's a healer, I focus them and make sure I keep them blown up with Volcanic Rune and close enough to bash in case they try to heal.
