BARD CLASS/SKILL-LINE AT E3/VIDEO GAMES LIVE? [UPDATE: NOT CONFIRMED]

Bard class seems a little lame.
IF there are going to be any new classes it should be Necromancer.
The Necro is a big part of ES lore and has appeared in every game. Not to mention a Necro would/could have a very cool skill-line to play with

I agree I'd like to see necromancer an actual class but I doubt they would do that.

I hope it comes after the justice system and keeps necromancy numbers culled by making you hostile in most towns by being one or something. Would really make you feel like you were a part of the world.

I can't possibly see them NOT adding necromancy at some point.

Necromancer for the dark brotherhood and thief for the thieves guild would work perfectly. They can add those classes with those updates :p

Anyone else then me who dont believe a word of this? :-p

I may have to stand in shame if this is true....but release a new class or guild tree? When they push back the 2 guild trees they already have?

No one said WHEN it might be coming. Why do people always react to news like everything is going to happen now, all of a sudden, and all at once? Is it because of time-telescoping in movies or what?

I admit it seems a little sketchy. I'm fairly sure they would have announced any new classes in 'the road ahead' blogs. But then its Zenimax, so who knows what the hell they are thinking ???

    Considering it is zen?

There is a chance this change hits the game , people come to the forum talk about it and AFTER THAT they go around asking which team added it and forgot to tell the PR guys again :P.

Hoping it will be a new class - troubadour was my favorite class in EQ2.

In animation, it's always been traditional to record the sound first, and then worry about everything else afterward. They could have been recording it NOW, because of the artists' schedules, for something that won't be released for another 6-12 months, or longer, depending on how they juggle the things that are in development besides that.

I dont see anything wrong in having a bard guild, like mage guild.
I just think its not in the Zenimax plans. MAYBE an idea they boggle with.

But they have tons of work to do before adding another skill tree that makes them look over all the skills.

Dont get me wrong, I would love to have all the wizard schools, 2 new guilds. 2 new races and 2 new classes. But then ESO would have 0 balancing. The vampire "oops" would be a small oversite compared to adding a class or a guild, before they add whats already in the plans.

I didn't read this whole thread (I have the attention span of a small child), but.. maybe she meant new bard songs like the bards that sing in Inns and not an actual bard class? I mean, if there was a bard class... why would it need actual vocal songs? Wouldn't it get drown out by the combat sounds? Wouldn't the class be more like the songs we have when using /lute, /flute and /drum? I'm thinking EQ2 style bards, where it's more of a brief, melodic sound file as opposed to a full-on song.

I'm pretty sure this person didn't mean what you thought they meant. Also, assuming someone was talking about a new class when talking about doing voice-over recording isn't considered "confirmed". ie: Fallout 4 isn't confirmed just because the VO actor for Three-Dog did some work.

Just saying it's possible this was misinterpreted.

Well, they did apparently fix that tree with the strange placeholder voice, so it could be possible. And I still say there needs to be a bit more variety of music/songs/instrumental sounds; that mournful one about the Daedra is getting tiresome. In fact, I think that's the tune the poor belly-dancers were trying to belly-dance to. No wonder they weren't doing any good.

Skyrim had a Bard's Guild, and a rather short questline to go with it.

I always thought it was a pity, it wasn't a full on faction just a chain of quests. Morrowind had tons of factions, I really wish they hadn't reduced the number in subsequent games.

Yeah. Well, I guess they have room to eventually bring 'em all back, and then some. The pity was that, yes, you didn't get a skill line out of the bard quests in Skyrim, and while the quest was quite amusing, it doesn't really go anywhere. Neither does the mage's guild quest, really. Never did Dark Brotherhood, I accidentally killed them off on my most recent playthrough.

I have been attending E3 this week, and not to much surprise but still cool the woman who sang "Dragonborn is Coming" (Look it up on Youtube) confirmed at Video Games Live last night that she just finished recording songs for a Bard Class/Skilline for Elder Scrolls Online! Totally Awesome! Who else is excited?! I find this very exciting bringing more variety into ESO!

I'm glad Malukah is getting some love from Zenimax for all the free awesomeness she produced for Skyrim. That woman's voice is truly lovely.

That said, it is troubling to me that ZOS is even talking about new classes and/or skill lines when the ones in game now are all a mess(well 1/2 of them anyways...).

And that concern is in addition to my main gripe atm: More new content and STILL no Thieve's Guild or Dark Brotherhood until sometime in 2015? I mean the vague 'sometime after major update 4' is really straddling the line of unacceptability considering that that content seems to have been pushed back so Craglorn(pretty much a flop) and the upcoming Crypt of Hearts(prolly gonna be DoA as well) could be banged out into the game.

I suspect Bard/skill line will be mostly a buff utility line such as "haste" (faster weapon attack) for melee skill lines and mana regen/heath/sta etc.

I'm probably going to get some hate for this, but Bards in Tamriel are just people who play an instrument, there is no special magic attached to them, they don't necessarily know how to use a sword.

So why for the love of Auriel introduce them.

I'd be happy with a support class - Bard. One skill line for Buffs. One skill line for Debuffs. One skill line for dps. I'd roll a bard... something new.
V14 Templar Argonian Healer, V12 DK Orc Tank, V2 Sorcerer High Elf DPS, V1 Templar Breton DPS, V1 Nightblade Bosmer DPS, and 3 low levels.

Actually in TES lore, i've always thought Bards were treated more like their AD&D counterparts. Which is to say as a rogue type class trained in light weaponry and armor, with a flair for the dramatic.

I do completely agree with that last sentence though. So much else that needs fixing before anymore new content is even considered.

I'm pretty sure it is not a class, as Kai Schober said that new classes are unlikely.
So it could be a guild or world skill line, as he also implied that they allready plan more than the two missing guild skill lines we allready know.

Sorry, but I really can't believe this without some sort of evidence or statement from Zenimax.
Life of a Nightblade (Screenshot Tumblr)

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

What would even bard use as a weapon? Lute? VERY effective against swords and magic..

My view on bards are that they are magical users but their tool is not staff but enchanted musical instruments. Instead of chanting words or so they play few cords or sing that will trigger the magic that will destroy the enemy.

Guess like chanting some magical words -- they also have music. Interesting idea and never thought as them that way before. They seem to be also a support role class -- there focus is buffs for the party, not many offence of defense spells.

Ah yes. In the Imperial city in the north, forget the name. But no bard abilities in any Elder Scrolls game that I can recall?
    Mablung wrote: »

Really now? it was a playable class in arena, daggerfall, morrowind, and oblivion.
It was an actual faction in skyrim and there are bard npcs all over the elder scrolls series, including this game.

    ^

Anyway, even if it wasn't a class line in the older games, who says it can't be now? Bard's Guild seems to have been new to Skyrim; there's no reason they can't or shouldn't expand on it in ESO. And as I mentioned, there was an awesome Nexxus mod that actually allowed you to act as a bard and get credit and cash for performing in taverns. Now I'm not sure how that would work in a multiplayer setting, unless the devs made sure you only heard your own bard's music, and random passers-by would only hear the NPC bard.

As an aside, the bards do need a wider variety of music. I ran into a place the other day in Reaper's March, where I got invited to a party at the end of the quest. There's a stage there, with two rather awful belly-dancers, and a guy who is playing what looks like (but does not sound like) a bouzouki (if it isn't, it should be). It sure as heck wasn't belly-dancing music, though.

This is bouzouki music, for those who aren't familiar with the word:

cant think of bouzouki without thinking of mony pythons cheese shop sketch ... that and every kebab shop in britain

How is this confirmed? This is the opposite of confirmed. Based on heresay by someone who doesn't even work for Zen and is absolutely not involved with the development process.

Remember the 3v3 we saw at E3 that was "confirmed"... this is an even stupider claim than that.
