Clearly never played The Secret World. I reinstalled just to see why I quit. As soon as I re-installed it hit me. Bland world design, unnecessarily confusing ability wheel, weird animations, frame rate issues randomly dropping to 1 fps causing me to close the game because I looked off in the distance. (Havnt played in 2 years and no fix for this) Count your blessings ESO haters.

thats funny, I reinstalled to play the tokyo content, and although TSW is well polished and brimming with innovation, I quit after 2 hours and haven't felt the need to return. It was a fun game when playing with others, and drinking lots of beer. mind you, TSW pvp was impossible for a long time due to the "community server" continuously going down.

The new york raid was the most fun Ive ever had wiping for 5 hours at a time, but then again, the lore, story and graphics are all that game really had going for it in the end. the skill wheel was absolutely awesome for theory crafting, but with just the right synergy I could waltz into a pack of 30 players in fusang and mow them all down by rolling my face on the keyboard.

anywho, ESO may or may not follow the route of TSW, but at least it is backed by the largest private game company, vs TSW which was backed by funcom who sold their souls to bankers to make their game.

People have very valid concerns. Just because people dont like the game in its current form dosnt mean they dont want it to succeed.

The latency issue is horrible. This should be priority number and no the recent patch may have "improved" it by a bit but it still has horrible latency when 3 raids are near contrary to their promises.

Second fixing the bugs in the classes so they can actually look at the classes instead of listening to whiners and just bringing down the nerf hammer.

Third is stop overadjusting everything. This is the worst mistake a MMO designer can do.

    Just saying.

Of course there are games out there with boring world design, as there are games with problematic UI and really heavy memory usage issues (Tera, that last bit was directed towards you).
But the existence of worse games is not enough to make ESO a great game.
Didn't you make a thread about how you are disappointing with the exploring aspect of ESO just a while ago?

Yes you are right, there are worse games than ESO, big deal.
It surely deserves like 6 out of 10 so there all 1-5 games below it :)

So both games can't be bad? That's what you're saying?

Not saying this game is bad (it's very average though in it's current state IMO), but I'm not seeing the logic here.

I got to say a lot of MMO's out there are dog turd, the market is over saturated with games which are either just blatant clones or claiming to be different but still the same story as everything else bar doing some other things that don't quite work.

As for ESO it's better than a lot of stuff particularly some over-hyped MMO's out there, it's not exactly the best game ever made though.

Y'know...I have no idea on how to design a video game, much less an MMO.

I -do- know what I find enjoyable in them, however.

@sajackson points out something that I also find not enjoyable. Just because I state that I don't like something should mean I have a solution or that I shouldn't provide some kind of feedback on it.

I agree with the sentiment he/she/it expresses. It is -to me- one of the holy grail of mistakes to make. It's right next to always nerfing and never buffing.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

The thing with MMO designers is that often they view it as art. They have a vision for how they want the game to look, feel and turn out overall. I also like to call that vision, ego.

Which means what we say or want is irrelevant. This is their backyard and we will play in it how they want us to play, like it or not.

I have played every major MMO in the last 20 years, and I consider ESO a superb and simply a fabulous game, and its just starting. It is very elegant and classy for starters. Frankly, I don't care who likes it or not, what does that have to do with my gaming; as is ESO is so jammed pack with players, oftentimes one has to kill a major mob quickly before someone else arrives to try to help. I have one mid-level character in each faction and see the same thing, packs of people having fun.

Disclaimer: not into PvP, do it as a diversion only.

:/ Just because one game is worse doesn't make something else not bad.

Whether a game is bad or not is totally subjective. For TSW I actually enjoyed it while I played it. The same can be said about every other game I've played for any extended period of time (anything longer than a day).. if I enjoy it, I continue playing it. I stop playing when I stop having fun. If I don't like something it doesn't make that thing a bad thing.. just means that it doesn't fit my preferences.

My boyfriend doesn't like ESO and I do, neither of us considers a bad game. I dislike Wildstar, he has been having fun with it despite some bugs encountered, we wouldn't label it a bad game either. We just have different tastes.

If I buy a luxury car such as a BMW, and the car has a bunch of flawed features or areas that need improvement, I wouldn't tell myself, "Well, at least a BMW is better than a Honda". I love TES, and I enjoy ESO, but your logic is very flawed. People have a right to enjoy a game and also critique it at the same time.

There are three types of forum users:
The trolls - People here only to cause problems.
The fanboys - The blind sheeple who will defend the game to the death just because they like it.
Everyone else - Who use logic to form an opinion that makes sense.

Don't be a fanboy. It doesn't help and just feeds trolls.

I don't think it's a bad game. It hardly has any features, but i wouldnt say bad. Music is great . The voice acting is great from what I've heard others saying (I skip it all).

I think it just depends on who is playing. For someone who is new to MMOs, it's probably pretty great.

I am not sure how even new players can continue to say this game is good when new patches introduce new bugs and nerfs. The game is flawed. We are beyond launch phase. The state of the game said hey we are going to nerf more and fix less, oh and look at our dye system. This week its look at our cloth wearing, staff using DK build. They are trolling you and you continue paying for it.

The graphics on my two years old 3GB Nvidia and i7 processor with 12GB Ram look amazing if you know how to tweak them right. Better than vanilla Skyrim for sure. And Skyrim loaded with visual mods was not too much better because of the 4GB limitation that the game had. I am really impressed with the map as well as the feeling that you are really in Tamriel. And the quests aren't bad either.

You should step up your modding game for Skyrim. With ENB modding the game looks nothing like you say. It completely blows this game out of the water graphically. But that is to be expected with a single player game vs. a MMO.

I am really just arguing to argue....pay me no mind.

This game is still in its infancy. It won't be perfect, and if you don't expect it to be, it is a good game. That being said, just because someone complains about something on the forum doesn't mean they're going to quit (even if they say they do) People normally go on the forums to vent (the "goodbye" threads) complain about an ability (whether it's warranted or not) or complain about exploits/bugs. None of these in and of themselves are bad. Yes, they can be annoying, and all doom and gloom, but in most posts there's a grain of truth that can be taken to make the game better. Take what you hear in forums with a grain of salt, but don't put the blinders on.

I tried many ENB variations, and they all made the game look more cartoony and the water would glow at night. No thanks. Not worth the FPS hit. True that you can't get those ENB effects in this game, but I never used them anyways. I also didn't care for the DoF effects either that would blur everything you weren't close to. I liked to be able to see everything in HD textures, plus DoF and ENB seemed less realistic. I hated how overrated they were at Nexus too, just like some of the other mods there that weren't that good but would get so much praise. I eventually got banned from Nexus for arguing with someone who was being very rude about anothers choice to use anime like mods. It seems that site will heavily moderate the comments of popular mods, but they will allow less popular mods like anime to get treated as taboo. Private sites will always have biased moderation.

It wasn't just that. My computer ran every ENB until I'd turn Ambient Occlusion on high, and then the loading screen would take forever and I'd get 10FPS, but ENB injected colors that were less natural looking that the vanilla colors. They glowed. Many people just didn't know how to tweak their graphics cards to make the colors in the game look real. There were also a couple really good lighting mods that went well with a good graphics card and looked much better than ENB.
