Made It To The Center Island In Cyrodiil, Alive.

On Bloodthorn this evening, some guildies and I used Retreating Maneuvers, speed potions, mist form, path of darkness, etc. in various combinations to swim across the channel in two separate locations and reach the center island where (allegedly) the Imperial City resides. "Cool story, bro" to follow, so go ahead and bow out now if you couldn't care less...

If you're still here, you probably have a sense of adventure, too, and maybe you've taken a close look at the broken bridges that span the channel. As some of you no doubt learned the hard way, there is an instant kill spell that hits you for 100,000 points of damage called "Imperial Law" if you go too far on those bridges. But in the water, there are only slaughter fish, and so, clearly, we're meant to try to bypass them -- if not, the water would be instakill also. We found two locations (so far) which worked. I figured the devs put huge rewards on that island for bold explorers to discover. That's what I would do if I were a dev...

The first location we crossed at is here:

As you can see, it's pretty narrow and it only took a few tries testing various combinations of the above spells/potions/skills to be successful. Unfortunately, the devs put an invisible wall just a couple of meters off the beach leaving almost no explorable areas. Additionally, the land is not flat enough to put a camp up. All we could do was snap some screenshots:

The second crossing location showed more promise:

There was no invisible wall blocking our progress and we began to explore... but there is an unnamed invisible instant death kill once you venture too far inland -- death recap doesn't even name it. Very disappointing indeed. We traversed the beach in a few directions, but invariably it got us when we got too far from coast (maybe 3 meters in).

Anyway, we're not giving up hope that somehow there's a way to get inland without hitting a wall or being instakilled. That would be really depressing if bold adventures were discouraged from boldly adventuring.

Peace.

* My compass might look wrong in these screenshots because I pinged/rally pointed the map a few times and bugged it.

ETA: We could not rez each other after being killed by the unnamed instant death.

Buy oblivion and explore all you want. It's ridiculous capital is not open for the emperor faction players.

Btw, does emperor get to visit the place?

Nice :) Must have been fun!

What are the island meant for really, does it have a function at all?

Not yet, but they talk of adding a new epic veteran dungeon to the zone later.

Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

    XBOX NA
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

Playing an Argonian, its easy to get to the middle island, but that instance kill "Imperial Law" when you get close a little way in makes it not worth the time.

I was hoping there was an least an achievement for getting killed by "Imperial Law"

OP, the center of Cyrodiil is getting an update in the future; whether it'll be a dungeon, etc. is not concrete at the moment, but there will be an update for it at one point.

I hope the Imperial city will become another PvP area where one faction controls it (with no bonuses) and the other factions automatically become neutral (cannot target) when entering via a portal or similar method within a keep. They can then engage the controlling faction in combat (2v1) to conquer the city and gain emperorship.

However, they can only enter if they control one of the 6 inner keeps so it'll keep them relevant, ensure that PvP doesn't shrink to one area and help foster both competition and collaboration within the 2 attacking factions. Additionally, if the controlling faction loses all the inner keeps then no reinforcements can arrive at the city or respawn there. Essentially another keep, or super keep.

Yep, but true adventurers don't wait and hope. We explore!

There was a rather sizeable group of adventurous players whom made it into imperial city during beta.

    Or so the legends say.

Imperial Law was born soon after that day.

But in all seriousness, in beta people could get in in several locations, then the devs figured out how they were and said lolno and put the umbrella big hit in place to shut down the curious explorers trying to get to the cheese at the center of the maze.

The way I understand it, its like that since the Imperial City is supposed to be a future content release like the Crime System.

Note: just my opinion, take it or leave it.

Whether or not it will be developed "some day," IMO what this placeholder Imperial City is, is a remnant of the original plan, which was to make all of Tamriel a continuous, explorable map. Realizing that they would never be able to do that, ZOS settled on the few areas we have now, and invented "veteran zones" to cover up for the incompleteness of the map.

And we see today the results of that pragmatic but flawed decision. It certainly explains a lot.

First time I saw the big ass dragon and the other NPCs in the entrance while passing by I thought "I SO wanna get in there" but also thought that there will most likely be some quest, hopefully a TRIAL, later on that let's you get in. At least I really hope so :)
