What happened to pvp?

I went back to Auriels Bow after taking a few weeks off and there was no one there. It used to be the most populated pvp server to the point that I sometimes couldn't even get in.

I noticed that only one server had any population above 1 bar.

It is very bad. Just running around a vast landscape doing some random pve. I mean that would be ok if we were talking about a pve part of the game, but to spend hours in a supposedly pvp zone and come across just a single enemy only a couple of months into the game- there is something wrong.

What happened and what is the plan to fix this?

On the bright side it was the first time I didn't have any disconnects in Cyrodil. We only came across one enemy player the whole time though so maybe that had something to do with it?

PvP got nerfed, they quit, now PvE players have PvP nerf builds, they quit as well.

There are better games out there.

    For less money.

Designed by people that actually know what the [snip] they are doing.

Wabbajack has a queue most days so theres always action.

That being said, they need to consolidate the servers.

Auriel's Bow NA? EP and DC got tired of AD stacking 24/7 at full population so we left and, luckily, AD took the bloody hint and doesn't stack anymore.
I'm a man of few words. Any questions?

They need to consulidate down to 2 servers. AB and Wabba.

    Simple fix.
  • Purple_Prophet
I'm all for only having 4 server's for PvP all with different rules and campaign times.
And the world comes to a close once again...

This is exactly what happened. PVP players complained about the zone being too big, about classes not being balanced and so while ZOS is nerfing and buffing like mad the PVP players left, leaving a really jacked up system for the PVE players. Here soon the PVE players are going to say to hell with it and leave as well.

What? No, the problem with pvp isn't the zone size that is actually one of the best things about it. The problems happened from other things like lack of community and guild pride due to no nameplates and guild tags which also make it harder to organize midfight for competitive play. Actual PvPers were not really complaining about balance, mostly newer players being forum warriors instead of learning the mechanics. Add in being able to hop campaign at will with port to party or guild, and dirt cheap campaign switching and scroll bonuses being heavily nerfed to where they aren't cared about much, and THAT is what happened.

Trust me, you ccouldn't be more off base. There is a lot of action still but the population has died down between these issues and overall game issues.

Exploits suck. Don't blame just the game, blame the players abusing them!

    Yes this is an issue.

When I was pvping regularly- which was only a few weeks ago lol, there were several servers with at least one faction at full bars, and I am pretty sure AD wasn't the only "full" server.

Now it is all empty except for Wabba- which wasn't even full. I play at strange hours, but still.

Anyway, consolidating servers seems a good idea, but there is so much more they could do.

Even if the servers are populated and stable, it does get kind of boring having to run for ages when you die, or that the campaign is played out over such a long period of time that it is difficult to feel part of it. Look- the servers have all but died before even one "game" has finished; there is something wrong here.

The current set up is awesome for a certain style of pvp, but it would be so nice to have the option of shorter- much shorter- games and much smaller areas, something like the WAR maps, or the edge of the mists in GW2.

I mean we have to look at why the population has just imploded in pvp- sure stacking is one issue, but there is much more behind it than that. One thing is, like I mentioned, the lack of game variety. Its all well and good to say there is all options for small skirmish pvp, one on one, and large scale in Cyridil, but the reality is that for many people its just not there.

Anyway, I could go on for ages, but the bottom line is that its just disappointing that the population has tanked and the experiment of not having any pvp outside of that one mode has failed. I really hope it gets revamped, because ESO is great fun and has amazing skill-based combat. It should be a pvpers dream.

Instead, I find myself logging out and playing Rift of all things, which is a totally skilless game, but at least I can consistently find other players to fight with and against, and it has a variety of pvp modes that don't require 60 minutes of pathfinding to every 1 minute of actually fighting someone.

The sad part is that its true.

ZOS is overadjusting everything and in the process are driving people far far away. You could say zenimax is still a noob at MMO's ;)

Glad they did the Elder Scrolls instead of Fallout first then. If ESO fails they hopefully will have learned some valuable information and they can try a Fallout MMO.

Well that is one major reason I stopped doing it a few weeks ago- everytime I played I got disconnected, had massive loading screens, massive lag, and half the time I actually got into a small scale fight the game bugged out on me. It was very frustrating so I just gave up.

But I think there is more to it; the drop in population is just massive.

    Actually, I just read http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/107716/upcoming-campaign-changes#latest

That looks great, very, very good changes, I think it will make a huge difference. My god am I glad I read that, I hope it happens soon.
