Evolving moderation practics of these forums

My letter to ZOS follows. Feel free to debate, but keep it lovey dovey....

I'm an adult and adults get into heated debates. Turn on the TV and watch any news program, it won't take long to see how adults behave especially where politics is concerned. Someone doesn't have the skin to handle it there is the old saying "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". I never once used foul language or made threatening remarks, I used constructive criticism of the OP's rant. Even gave advice and where to read other peoples opinions and find other resources to address their issue. People who refuse to get off their soap box and consider other opinions or ways of doing things require a firmer response. People who post their opinion in public places need to have to the mental maturity to manage any strong opinions counter to theirs.

There is a mature rating on this game, if it was rated for children I would consider changing my tone to that of an adult speaking to a child.

Public forums have also served as emotional escape valves. I know there are a fair number of upset customers and the forums emotional level has gone up. ZOS has been a target and I'm beginning to question the ability of your company to handle being a target of said customers ire. You should be prepared to receive criticism as well as praise in a professional matter. However, what appears to be happening is ZOS getting ever more heavy handed. Your company seems to be following the route of censorship rather than to face the customers or appreciate the nature of adults.

But aren't you doing the same thing ? You even quoted an old saying, just curious? Besides it's not a public forum it belongs to ZOS, you got moderated, and now you are upset about it. Just go with the flow....making this thread is not really going to help you. My opinion etc..

Except this isn't a public forum.

This is a private forum that Zenimax allows us access to, with rules that we agree to follow to post here. If you don't agree with the forum rules, then you don't post here.

Making condescending remarks [changing your tone to that of an adult speaking to a child] will quite probably end with your getting your post moderated again.

People have their own opinions and preferences. If those opinions are strongly held/believed in, you are not going to be able to change them. They don't want to change. You won't be able to convince them otherwise. You will manage to get people irritated/annoyed because it will eventually look as though you are flame-baiting or trolling. If you think someone is on a soapbox and won't listen, give it up and move on to a discussion where people are discussing things instead of ranting or preaching.

I think mods do a good job.
Its just, i dont know how to say it, an I quit post is moderated in like 3minutes, but responses to valid complaints are non existent. Explanations for other practices are non existant. Communications level is very low.

So, while the moderation is good, the Rest of the communication is lacking.

Well... and no disrespect to any forum mods... but I don't think they are exactly very high up there in the company hierarchy ;)

Their job is to follow their company's policy in regard to forum moderation. Obviously zenimax doesn't want their official forums filling up with large negative "I'm quitting posts" as they tweak and change game mechanics. Its GOOD to know the forums are well policed, just wish the devs were a little more interactive in some of the larger community posts in regard to bugs, class unbalances, and bots.

    That's my guess anyhow.

An "I quit" post is simple and clear cut. The mods can lock and move on.

You would have to explain "valid complaints". Moderators take care of the forums only. They have no powers to fix things or solve complaints beyond passing on information to the people who can do something. They can't promise anything.

Explanations for other practices? Again, you would have to be specific. Forum rules aren't going to get ultra specific for every single detail. If the rules get too specific you get people who will argue about everything. If the "other practices" involve anything other than the forums, the moderators aren't the ones to ask.
