Craiglorn access for a casual gamer

So, the days of being a hardcore mmo gamer are over with for me. Wife, kids, house and so on. This being the case, and due to advertising, I decided to play eso differently, much like I played skyrim. Skip the main story line entirly, and take on the world. Which has been thoughly enjoyable btw!

Here lies my issue. Im vr1, and got to cold harbor two weeks ago and am 2/3rds of my way through it. I still have not talked to the prophet to begin the main quest line. Do i have to do the entire main quest line to acces craiglorn (the gate in bankori is still blocking access to it), just to recieve its quest to travel there? I read a few weeks back simply accessing coldharbor without the main quest was not possible, but im nearly done with it.

it's like 10 quests and it takes like 3 hours in total, shouldn't be anything big and it are some really great quests

Ah, so only like two or three more days of questing from the sound of it then.
