Game mechanics that I just don't get.

Just a few questions for anyone willing or able to explain the answers to me. I know not everyone will agree with me and I really don't care for their opinions and will not read negative posts. These are genuine questions that I would like others opinions on. If you don't have constructive comments then kindly leave.
  • Why is there a tax on levelling. I understand that just gaining exp will erode your armour which to me seems ludicrous. It is a tax pure and simple. PAYE. Does any other game have this ? There are hundreds of other ways to create gold sinks without taxing players like this.
  • Why does armour effectiveness drop as it erodes ? I can understand the principal behind it. Dented armour is bound to be less effective but if I am dying then I am having trouble. Why compound my dramas with weaker and weaker armour ? I really don't need the 2k+ repair bills from chain deaths to quest bosses that seem invincible. Why force 'realism' on us in this aspect of the game when it is a fantasy game? Bollocks.
  • All the stats, effects, damage and AR on equipment are....well.....really, really gimp.
  • Improving an item from green to blue (or any other step up) adds so little that I can't credit it as worthwhile. It's a joke.
  • Quest rewards are all green and usually for another class. (Apart from the toys) I don't think I have ever used any of them. Garbage. They need to be relevant, bound and at least a little useful. Remove the level req on quest items or at least make quest rewards equipable several levels lower than the gears listed level.
  • The sta, mag and hp regen/reductions available are so laughable. Sorry it's just soo bad I can't see its worth. Amulets, rings, food etc. It's just silly.
  • What is power in the game ? I see mundus stone things that provide power and I think it is 'warrior' ? I see no reference to power on my paperdoll. WTF is it ? Probably obvious but I dunno. Please explain.

Generally I enjoy the game. I did have to get a new monitor because one of their bugs frustrated me so much I punched the old one to death but I just don't get what they are trying to achieve with this game. Maybe it is an attempt to be different from every other MMO but sometimes things are samey across games because the methodology works. There is an awful lot in this game that quite simply lacks.
All the great questing and exploration is woefully let down by the lame and lacking functionality of some basic features.

Contrary to how this may read I am actually enjoying a lot of this game. It just saddens me to think how much greater it could/would be if some features were modified.

It is standard in MMOs, actually.

1,2) These are money sinks, necessary in every game economy because gold literally spawns out of nothing with every new npc that pops into existence out of mid-air.

3)I'm not really sure what you mean by this, the difference between a good set of armor and a bad one can mean the difference between completing dungeons and wiping over and over.

4,5)These seem kind of contradictory, is the green stuff good enough or not?

6)The regen stuff on jewelry is generally pretty bad, mostly because yours will most likely be capped at end-game anyways, but the reduction of cost can be very good in pvp for certain builds

7)Power, I believe, affects weapon damage

I agree on armor effectiveness. This might be one of the more underlying issues that affects every player and how much they can accomplish in game before the fun factor leaves them with a bad taste.

Well I am currently getting obliterated by a standard solo dungeon boss. What a joke. Blew me away 6 times before my armour is so broken it does nothing now.
    What's with 'Wispmothers' ?
Freaks spawn multiple full strength wisp adds, rain fire, have standard boss hps and also spawn mirror image mobs to add to the confusion. What the hell do you call this rubbish. Absolute joke.
I am parking this game up for a while. It is simply ridiculous.
I am completely uninspired with this game right now.

So you don't care for the opinions of people who don't agree with you, but you would like people's opinions. Yeah, OK then.

If armour repair is such a drag for you, don't bother repairing or upgrading from 1 to 50, because you'll get new armour long before your old stuff is destroyed. I collect so much armour from drops and quests that I've never yet had to buy or make any for my characters.

    As for:

Actually i think the armor should have a duration, that is reduced for every repair and if it reaches zero the item is broke and can no longer be used.
that would be a real gold/material sink, the current implementation is not.

I can not dispute the rest of your points.

    - tax on leveling, that's strange, but I never noticed this. Anyway looks strange.
    - just try to reshape your tactic - do not repeat same scenario all the time and you know (I could say use think but it would be flaming) - this game is MMO means you can group, many people say that this game does not force people to group, but it does and you are example of person who by any chance does not want to play in team so pay price for this attitude.
    - Improving items - if it would then game would become "god items game" or would be just too easy. I would say only that effort to change from green to blue could be decreased a bit because while leveling all items have very short life
    - they are indeed small, but you are not forced to use them - just sell, or you want just god mode enabled items, for example ring of death that give 100000 damage?
    - perhaps it is written somewhere, you just want personal explanation, while I propose to search internet a moment, indeed ESO does not provide damage calculator, but does any MMO game do it?

Be thankful ESO doesn't have XP loss and de-leveling. I'd rather pay to fix my gear (or simply make new stuff) than that.

As for how the numbers work, I've never been a number-cruncher, I just go by raw results. (am I killing quick enough to keep from dying a lot myself). But it seems to me that while the numbers look tiny (especially coming off of WoW), the way the math works with what passives and abilities etc etc etc you have gets kind of complex in the background. I'm sure a mathematician type would be happy to explain it (to you, I would probably glaze into catatonia.)

Gear means so little, meaning the desire to get it is close to meaning less. The single most powerful stuff is the glyphs due to direct stat changes. Everythign else is just...bleh.

I dont even think weapon damage even increase 1 point on a one handed weapon when you change it from epic to legendary at vr10.

My understanding is that earning xp will wear out your armour. In many games it wears out from taking hits. That made it really sucky for tanks and good for others but it is pretty much the accepted norm. I have never, ever seen a game that will erode your armour simply by earning xp. Not to say they don't exist but I do not recall playing one. That said I have not really tested this but others have.
The cost of repairs is still extreme to say the least. It's less since the patch but still too much. There are many other ways of removing gold from the game and hearing the 'This is a gold sink' comment is lame as it is just plain old lazy design.

As for changing tactics....heh....right. You go try Vox at VR7 level and tell me and everyone else what *** tactics work on that insane crap. Well done if you passed it during pre vet content but if you didn't you are fair screwed. You cannot group her. People have tried and they simply get ported out. So it is solo only apparently. I am sure someone can do it with some superbuild but not me. It spawns multiple full strength adds that summon swooping ghosts that spew ice and death at you repeatedly while hitting for 1k minimum and there is NO working CC. I can't even be bothered going on. Pure rubbish.

Weapon and armour stats are just plain lame. The difference in upgrading is simply not worth the effort and cost. Too funny.

The UI is rubbish and only works well with add-ons. No AH. No ability to search by name on the guild store. No dedicated bank space.

Oh well... I got to VR9 3/4 before I ran out of steam. I went to craglorn only to find out there is no solo content there.... sad.

I cancelled rebilling but as I have a 6 month sub I will pop back occasionally in the hope something exciting happens with the game and to continue my crafting research but otherwise I see no point playing.

The last few days I just find myself saying WTF? too much...............

    Time for a break.

    Good luck folks.
