Mages Guild Question

My boyfriend joined the mages guild the first day we started playing. He's discovered 158 lore books and done all the related quests. His skill level is 8. I joined the mages guild a day ago and have discovered fewer than 100 books, and had not completed more than one or two of the quests. However, my skill level is 9. It immediately went to 8 when I joined. Any ideas as to why this is? If I've read fewer books, done fewer related quests, and am lower level than him shouldn't my mages guild skill be lower than his? How did it get so high?

Lore books can award either 5 Mage's Guild XP or 10. I'm not sure what governs this and it seems to be slightly random. I'm not sure on the math, but that might be why you're ahead of him in rank.

I didn't join mages guild on my main until past level 40ish, and was collecting the books the whole time, and was immediately leveled to 9 and a bit.

Did you manage to complete more book sets than him?

Whenever you manage to find all books in one category (for example, all 10 volumes of "Legends of Nirn"), you get a rather large bonus to your Mage's Guild progression.

We checked that last night. I had one set and he had four, so no, I did not complete more book sets than him. :(

even if you hadnt been in mage's guild any "books" you found before count. you may have found books but not realized it because there is no "prompt". the book just dissapears. Additionally, completing categories of books gives extra 20points vs 5points per book.

I've read 89 books while he has read 164. I have one set/collection/category of books while he has at least 9. I'm lower level, and I haven't done as many mages guild quests as he has.

Try asking someone of ESO staff while in game

Just a guess, but maybe he's been coloring outside the lines in his books, and you're a lot neater?

I used to lose points for that.

    Just trying to help :)

The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

After a while of testing on multiple characters we believe that books you read before you join the mage's guild offer 10 points, and books you read after joining offer 5. We could be wrong, but that's our best guess.

That doesn't make sense, getting fewer points as a member of the guild vs. more points outside the guild? But then I've come to realize that trying to apply logic to everything in ESO just gives me a headache :)

I'm fully aware it doesn't make sense, but it really does seem to be true. We started two characters, had one join the guild immediately, and the other just did and the one who wasn't in the guild got more points. They were picking up different books, so it's possible that each book gives a certain number of points, I suppose.

    Ciao, Muh!

Does this get applied retroactively for any lore books you've corrected _before_ joining the MG?
