In Game Mails To Wrong Person

Anyone else get a bunch of in game mails that don't seem to be for the right person?

I often get mails with attachments that appear to be by mistake and I usually (if not always) return to sender, but just this morning I got an in game mail with 8 dwarven oils and another mail with lots of gold.

It can't be just me getting these! Anyone else have this happen to them?

Maybe your @handle is the character name of the person it was actually intended for, so you got it instead.

Could be some dumb dumb who doesn't realize he's sending to you instead of his friend. Can happen if you have similar names. Frankly I'd just take the stuff, you're made of more honorable stuff than I, good sir.

Did you happen to see if there was a COD attached? This could be a scheme to get people to accept items and pay an outrageous COD fee knowing that many people do not read the popups.

My @ handle is pretty unique IMO. I have gotten COD 'scams' of rare materials but I return to sender those. One of the mails I got recently had one of my character names in it, meaning they intended to send it to one of my characters.

I also tried to whisper one of the accounts that sent a mail, and the character name was ffffff@(handle) as it turns out, and they didn't respond to my tells. Guessing *not* a legit account.

I've seen similar things happen in other games, with names that are just too similar or because of the similarities between the letters 'i' and 'l' making them indistinguishable when they are adjacent to one another in a sequence of 2 or more in a row, or because the game tries to guess at what name you mean (and you can click send too fast without noticing that it's the wrong name).

I just think since this is a common mistake in other games, that it's LIKELY the same here. It COULD be a scam, but unlikely.

I get these from time to time, usually full of glyphs. Yay, free stuff.

heh yea I got one a week or so ago with a plethora of vet fire resist glyphs and some other stuff. I sent those back but I have to say....I may not always be so nice if someone keeps typing in the wrong name.

Could this be related to folks using Wykkyd's Mail Return Bot? I'm wondering if the patch broke the functionality of the addon somehow and as a result the mail isn't being bounced back. Rather just sent to another person with the addon installed with a subject of return or bounce?
