Medium Attack Meta; Still Here?

So the change to empower makes it to only fully charged heavy attacks get the bonus...... Unless the weapon is channeled. With the buff to Empower, does this make slotting a lightning staff on your front bar better than two daggers?

prof_doom✭✭✭✭✭Probably not. Lightning and resto (especially resto after the nerf from where it started on PTS), just aren't that good unless you're finishing the heavy attack.
I'm just glad they did it that way, because it would've made lightning completely useless if it had been last tick only. I think even a fully charged frost heavy would've done more damage in that scenario.Edited by prof_doom on 22 August 2022 19:553 -

They did. The only two weapons that get a boost for non-fully completed heavy attacks are lightning and resto, and like I said, that's because if the entire channel wasn't boosted by empower, then there'd be no point to using either weapon with empower.2 -

✭✭✭✭✭It's probably the right call. The problem was going to be that the individual ticks of channeled heavies were going to be severely underpowered if Empower only applied to the final tick. So this will prevent the medium attack weaving from destro and melee weapons, and still allow lightning its niche for heavy attack spammable builds.3 -

For reference, the Patch Notes for Empower:
"Note that this bonus does not apply to partially charged Heavy Attacks, only fully charged Heavy Attacks or channeled Heavy Attacks. This was done to prevent “medium” weaving from becoming a dominant playstyle."
So they definitely addressed it. No one is medium weaving lightning heavy attacks.2 -
