Deserted Solstice

Last night, about this time, I made a little light-hearted post ESO vs Halloween.

Tonight, that seems less of a joke and more a new reality. Western Solstice is deserted. There are about 6 - 10 players doing Siege Camps, down from 50 -100+ and nobody doing the Event World Boss.

There are three possible explanations:
  1. Players are busy elsewhere, despite it being peak weekend play hours
  2. ZOS have capped the number of players in the instance
  3. Players have decided Phase 2 is not worth their time, especially with all the new combat bug

1) seems unlikely, 2) seems a good idea but the limit is too low, but 3) seems the most likely. ZOS you need to comment and engage your playerbase

You do realize that phase 2 has three siege camps active at the same time. So the population of 100+ you were seeing at only one siege camp, is now much smaller as the players are now spread out over three different siege camps while they are also missing active siege camps due to turning in the quests.

PS: I would not have known about the event boss either if I hadn't read the forums here. That was the only way I was even able to find him/know about him. (Should have had a daily quest point to him, for another golden coffer)

PPS: This event is just too unclear/complicated/mysterious.

I think it is a mix out of those two things.

Right now there is still the Witches Festival going on and a lot of players are doing that event. In addition to that. The so called *Phase 2* is - if I didn't miss anything - nothing more than a renamed Phase 1 with one or two different things added (a few more crafting quests and a world boss I think and only new rewards are the styles for the weapons).

I've seen 2 active, but even if it was 3 the main central camp being one of them wouldn't have just 6 people. The next few days will tell if there has been a drop off on participation, and if there has ZOS need to engage as to why

I didn't play on PCEU until late evening EDT, and there were a few people on-- about the same as at that time of night back at the beginning of Phase 1. Call me odd, but I thought the fights at the siege camps seemed more fun with just a few players than with a dozen or more massively-OP players burning down the mobs and bosses lickety-split. Sure, the fights took longer and were much more difficult-- especially the couple of times that I was trying to solo the soul reapers before other players showed up to help-- but I actually found myself thinking it's going to be a shame to see the camp incursions go away after the event has ended, because I find them to be more fun in a way that the incursions in Gold Road could have been if they hadn't been so far beyond my characters' abilities to handle.

I'm sure there's a certain amount of event fatigue going on, and it's disheartening to see so many players bashing the event, the devs, and the game as a whole in these forums. But if there are fewer players at the camp incursions, I suspect that one possible reason is because there are usually two camp incursions going on at the same time, hence the players are splitting up between two incursions rather than teaming up for one incursion.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

I logged on and started the new quest from Skordo but my heart just wasn't in it so I logged off. Will probably finish it tomorrow. I think I'm getting burned out grinding away and phase 2 seems more of the same. I need to stick it out though to see Phase 3 since I paid for it but after that I might need a break.

Actually it's 2 camps active at a time, but even so the past couple of days any camp I went to had multiple players. @Gabriel_H has the jist of it. People are burnt out. I cannot stand this event, but as an officer in my guild I've been trying to hype people up and get them doing stuff. For myself though, I go to the camp and get the quests and do a couple and it's just so difficult to keep going.

Also the combat bug, while it hasn't made it to my server yet, friends on PC in raiding discords are extremely upset. The lack of communication from Zos around the issue is just another sign from Zos that this new leadership is the same as the old. Would you want to grind boring fetch quests and siege camps if your combat looks like that and the company won't even comment on it?

This entire event is a mess. Phase 2 is a joke and what could be the saving grace, the dungeon of phase 3 is gone after 7 days. Can you imagine? 7 days for content in a year super light on content. What a joke. Oh and the best part. The part I reaaaaally hope happens. Xbox EU gets to phase 3 before Nov 12. Because there's no other side of the wall. But of course they'll never let that happen. They'll tip the scale.
Idk what needs to happen but something needs to happen.

Hypothetically if that were to happen, the only fair way to address it would be to pause all progress across all severs until Xbox EU could progress again. The playerbase would likely blow their stack if that scenario became reality. It's likely there are countermeasures in place to prevent that from happening though.

I did the dailies in Phase 1 just for the gold boxes because I wanted all the fragments for the pet, and the blue boxes just didn’t seem worth the time or effort. I’ll do the same thing in Phase 2 because I want the caltrops skill style. I rarely do the same daily on a given day twice, even with my alternate characters. Like, I do my crafting dailies once a day on my main crafter, even though I could do them on 11 other characters if I wanted, but that just burns me out too fast that day.

I'm averaging 6 bone fragments a day for 3 days now. Only 1 fragment came from a gold box. Just sayin..

Oh I think you're quite right. They wouldn't let that happen. It would be pretty funny if it did though.

The funny part is, whether it is a split in numbers because of the multiple camps (I have my doubts), there are not huge numbers of people coming back to the quest camp. Which would suggest many people are not doing the event tonight, yet the progress bar went up 5% this evening.

I don't think it even matters that the other event is on, people don't want to grind out the same boring quests for a month for the same bad rewards. People are bored of it. Console doesn't even get the new WB until their update in 11 days so Phase 2 is basically exactly the same as Phase 1.

Depends on whether there are multiple instances of the zone. If there are, while one instance is full and packed, the next may not be very well populated as there isn't enough spillover.
