Yes. I got 2 caltrops parts yesterday.

So more than 1 can drop a day. They do seem rarer than the pet one; at least this early.

It is kinda nice to see the whole ESO community on all social media platforms from the forums, Reddit, the replies to official tweets etc all finally united on something instead of endless fighting. And that is that almost nobody seems to like the 'special event'.

I disagree that "the whole ESO community" is united about this. But clearly I'm "almost nobody," so my opinion doesn't matter. And I suppose that all of the players I see actively participating in the event must be nobodies, too. It's nice to know we have no importance at all as compared to the very vocal "everybodies."

I dont hate thr event, but I also dont like it either. I decided that.im grinding out quests just to end it, because the alternative is to just let it go until either somone finishes it eventually or zos just declares its done.

All I will say is that ZOS over hyped it, didnt explain it very well, and for a pay walled one time event that was sold as the keystone of the season pass, it was very very disappointing maybe I will be surprised when phase 3 comes out. But based on the time frames involved, that will probably be Thanksgiving week when most NA folks are likely traveling and then there is going to be another mess when those players complain that they missed the title because of the 7 day till its over mechanic.

And then... Let's take that ONE new thing, the WB, away from 2/3 of the servers!

    It's brilliant.

With the progress being made at the moment on console, we should finish phase 2 well before phase 3 can even start.

That's actually not a new quest but the next quest stage of a quest that started in phase 1. I guess it will end with phase 3.

It's also a bit bugged, though. If a character has not started the quest in phase 1, but accepts it now, the dialogue doesn't make any sense because parts are missing.

interesting... they assured us when they revealed (what little they did reveal) things in the beginning that everything would flow in the story and make sense whether you participated from the start, joined in in the middle or started it after the whole event was done and gone.

I'm confused. ZOS hyped this as competition between servers which seemed odd since there's nothing about this game would make competition logical. But even if we ignore that, stage 2 is now console doing chores vs. pc having a world boss plus chores which makes even less sense.

ugghh...This is soo tedious and boring. I don't think we can blame Microsoft for this one, from the news - they laid off the 200 ESO devs with Matt Firor (many taken from ESO since 2018), then cancelled the MMO he was working on for 7 years. It looks like the rest are still here. And this event was being worked on for months before Matt quit.

Maybe next year will finally purge the backlog of crappy ideas, because we definitely need something exciting that really is exciting. This update and event are just a slog through a glitchy grindy mess.

Except that ESO players on consoles like me on Phase 2 do not have access to the new world boss. And it looks to me like one or more console servers will complete Phase 2 before console servers get Update 48 on November 12.

Looking forward to Phase 3 without access to the new dungeon ZOS! /s

I don't mind the event, except for how long it's taking. It's too drawn out. Like I said in another thread, the entire thing should have lasted about the same as a regular event, 2 weeks max. But this has been running since October 13 with no end in sight.

And they should leave the phase 3 dungeon in permanently. It makes no sense to me that they spent time on a dungeon that will be temporary, when the amount of story/exploration content in the content pass was low. What about people who buy the content pass after the event is over because they aren't even playing ESO right now?

ZOS could leave the event quests intact and gate access to the eastern part of the island by the event quest chain. No grinding and such, but do the phase 1, 2, and 3 quests and the dungeon to get into eastern solstice, and the event quests only become available after you've finished the story for western solstice. They might have to tone down the bosses in the dungeon (haven't seen it yet, but based on what I've heard) so that a solo player could get by, but leave it in so people who aren't playing right now for whatever reason can experience it later, and players can experience it on new alts.

I know a lot of complaining happens on these forums, but these concerns are legitimate. This “expansion” is really bad value for the money and implemented in a very poor way with really unimpactful story beats. I don’t understand why it was hyped up so much. The hype makes the disappointment worse. :(

ZOS has fooled me for the last time with this one.

I have been getting all the expansions as they come out because I had reason to. My friends/prog group would want to run the new trial, or farm gear from there. There was usually a new fancy gimmick to entice people, either scribing or digging or anything. This time around I have no friends/group so I didn't care for the trial. I don't care for overland content because I've only just cleared Murkmire, why would I be buying more quests if I still have years worth of them undone. The new gimmick multiclassing, came with base game.

The season pass is a rip-off when you already pay for ESO+. They're basically charging more for the same content I'd get. I wouldn't normally have to pay for the DLCs, yet now I'm forced to, with the excuse that the amount of content I get for that price is much higher than usual. No it's not. In practice, it's not. Quite the contrary.

The landmass is small. The story DLC basically is a loss because they blocked over half of the expansion area behind the excuse that it's DLC content.

I don't care for the DLC dungeons. With no friends/prog groups to run what is unnecessarily hard, pointless content, I don't bother with these at all.

This "unique, one-of-a-kind" speech had me doubting. I've grown weary of them touting something as new, get now or never again and then it's just more repetitive stuff that's copy-pasted from decade-old content, and oh look, it's coming back next year. Guess nothing in ESO will ever be like the first year loyalty rewards where if you miss them, there's really permanently gone. And no a Title doesn't count.

I ended up caving in because I saw the Wormwrithe motif and really liked it. ZOS fooled me making me think it would be something bound, something actually unique. Something you'd get one chance to get during this event and then never ever again. So I looked for the Pass online and bought it at a discount price.

Only to yet again realise it's something that you can trade, sell, farm, and will definitely be back in future iterations of the same "one of-a-kind" event.

The only unique thing about this event is how ridiculously long it's being, and the fact that it's in three phases. I get it. ZOS tried to make something different and turn a DLC release into an elaborate "event", thinking it would feel amazing. It did not. Yes people like to participate and get the illusion that their efforts are helping. But when said effort is just running in the same hamster wheel we already run for every single event in the game, and for longer and longer and longer, it just shows they don't care if players are actually having fun. We run the event for the rewards that are underwhelming. We run it for the extra experience from Witches. But we don't run it because it's enjoyable. Something an event should be.

Even the reward system is skewed. If there's one drop that's only made available on phase 2, then why am I pulling pet scales by the handful when I can no longer do anything with them, while the thing most people won't have yet (the caltrops fragments) are super rare? I'd risk saying practically everyone has the turtle already. Stop dropping scales and start dropping what we are after! But no. Gotta keep the gullible, stupid little hamsters running so they can show the numbers to the suits. Behold the engagement we drove! Never before have they been so active in an event!

    Not happy.

    Not entertained.

Just running on the wheel. That's all they care about.

interesting... they assured us when they revealed (what little they did reveal) things in the beginning that everything would flow in the story and make sense whether you participated from the start, joined in in the middle or started it after the whole event was done and gone.

I brought a low-level character to Solstice yesterday, for the event crafting quests. Upon arriving at Sunport wayshrine (because that was the only wayshrine I had available for that character), there was some npc I couldn't remember who then informed me that the Stirk Fellowship was preparing for the attack against the wall and I should go to that camp to talk to Skordo. When I did so, Skordo immediately thanked me for bringing vitrified souls (which I obviously did not) and told me that the Lens was powerful enough now.

I really hope they'll fix everything so it will remain a congruent narration after the event is over, for people who play through the story later.

It's really a strange decision as that dungeon might be the most interesting thing this event offers. I also hope they might just keep it.

Yeah, I'm not a fan either...

I'll throw out this bone, though: it can suck to do the same thing over and over. Every year, add landmass of X amount with 6 delves, 6 world bosses, 6 to 8 striking locations, 2 public dungeons, 1 new trial (which only a fraction of the playerbase will ever see because there's no raid-finder version like WoW has had for over a decade), 3 crafting stations, 10 landmarks, about 30 quests total, 2 daily quests (to rotate people through the delves and world bosses), 3 overland sets, and 18 skyshards. Rinse and repeat for a decade, with a baby zone or 2 dungeon content pack to fill in quiet spots on the release calendar. Try not to go insane as the repetitious nature of your expected creative output wears you down.

I get it. It's fun to experiment and try new things instead, and artists need to be able to spread their wings. That having been said, this event is just making US do the same thing over and over and over and over for two months. I don't see the merit to it, other than to make us feel ZOS's pain too. :-P I'm utterly burned out, and the event overlapping with yet another seasonal event (grind plunder skulls to get FOMO outfit before event end) was just... brutal. Oh, and the endeavors almost never synced up with EITHER event, so that was the cherry on top of the tedium pie.

I don't think this experiment worked out too well. I respect the effort to springboard off the standard formula and do something weird / novel with it, but in this case we ultimately have one regular zone split in half by two months of mind-numbing tedium. Whoops.

I'd rather see ZOS experiment story-wise and aesthetic-wise. How about we get a House Dres expansion where we get to be naughty and help the house put down a slave rebellion? The slaves are working with Namira or something and, for the greater good, we gotta bring 'em in line! A lawful evil plotline for the first time in almost a decade. Maybe the 'Underground Railroad" Twin-Lamps group is just a big House Dres psy-op, keeping slaves in line by giving them false hope to temper rebellion. A small amount of hand-picked slaves are allowed to be freed every year to minimize inventory shrinkage. You get the idea. We haven't had a "bad guy" expansion since 2016.

Or a Nibenay expansion where we work with the Tharn family to safeguard Imperial refugees, put down goblin hordes, and manipulate the warring factions for the good of Bravil, Mir Corrup, and Gwylim. You know, an actual deep dive into Nibenay culture and how the politically savvy, crafty Imperials of the East would turn this catastrophe to the advantage of their people? Maybe even cram in some hints of House Hlaalu cozying up to them and laying the groundwork for their eventual 3rd era rise.

Heck, maybe make these areas a bit harder. Not "cram in a lot of one-shot-kill cheap death enemies" harder, but harder in the "it behooves you to have a little extra armor and oomph to clear the packs" vein. "Level 1 fresh-off-the-boat NOT advised. Glass cannons better hire Isobel."

More of what you're good at, less of doing the same four dailies mutliple times each for a month to fill up a bar so that I can do those same dailies again for another month to fill up a second bar to see the second half of a zone that I've already paid for.

i watched zos' little explanatory video 2-3 weeks ago, and i swear they said phase 2 would include some new area, like underground tunneling under the wall and fighting some kind of world boss. i must have heard wrong. phase 2 seems identical to phase 1, barring some extremely minor differences in the daily quests. and if that's all phase 2 is, it's incredibly boring. phase 1 was boring enough. sheesh. i know i don't have to 'do' it if i don't want to, but i did pay for the season pass, and the event so far is very lackluster. i mean, i had hopes that phase 2 would mix things up a bit. nope, same platter as 1

I suggested tunnelling under as something the event could have if I were re-designing it, you might have seen that. What we actually get is as disappointing as you say, and is why someone asked what we'd do if we could redesign it.

Despite all this, I have found something very amusing in this whole situation.

There's an NPC in the Solstice base, a male Nord, who seems to have been thrown through a Crown crate and rolled out of the other side wearing the most outrageous costume combinations. Yesterday I saw him wearing the Khajiit festival outfit, and figured it was odd, and then later he had a completely different getup.

Today he's sporting a majestic dress, which leaves his chest hair in full display while he's doing jumping jacks and pushups. He may not be out there slaying Daedra, but he's right here slaying just the same.

I'll be keeping an eye out for him from now on, for sure.
