That used to be the incantation in a game called UO that allowed you to teleport in the world. What was cool about this though, is that people would be able to create books with specific locations on them and sell them to other players. Several popular books were popular grind locations, others were just cool areas in the game that you could get to. You could set it literally anywhere, meaning you could create your favorite guildstore book and within a matter of minutes teleport (through the use of a regeant) to all of them in a matter of minutes. You could create a book for your top 10 crafted sets. A book for those really hard to find NPC's that you seem to be running over or under but can't seem to find the ramp you actually need. A book for all of your friends houses.

How would this be implemented? Probably through enchanting. The regeants could be expensive, or somewhat harder to find (like double or triple heartwoods drop rate) and the mats to actually create a rune would be expensive. So one book could cost idk, ballparking 100k to make. What this would do is ensure that the populated areas remained popular and the streets are still full of people, provide a fun new side hussle for the explorers and crafters, and provide a unique opportunity for people to discover parts of the world they may have missed while running on a quest. Like a beautiful coastal sunset.

In order to prevent people from scamming people, (here's a book with 10 runes to the best grind spots, but really it's 10 runes to Davon's Watch) the description of the book if hovered over would provide the names of the places the runes were created at. Then, when you opened and read the books, it'd actually give more detailed information, like coordinates and stuff like that.

Yes, I do heartily repent. I repent I had not done more mischief; and that we did not cut the throats of them that took us, and I am extremely sorry that you aren't hanged as well as we.

Really cool Idea. I never played UO did this mechanic end up discouraging exploration? That's the only downside I can see...some people becoming dependent on the books and not going out and discovering things for themselves. I guess that's on them though.

With all the fast traveling methods this and other games have, I never stop exploring on foot.

The OP is basically describing a Mark and Recall system, something any game needs. As for custom travel points, I am on the fence on those. Some of the better grind spots are a slog to get to, and quite frankly should be that way as it keeps the populations down. But, I would not mind a way to recall back.

Although, my whole need to Recall back went away with the Merchant and Banker Assistant. If they ever gave me a way to decon out in the field, I would be happy.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Sadly, the time of uo is Gone. Mark and recall was The basic for every player, and i remember the early uo days, when the mark-spell was a secret and hard to learn...sigh. Those werd the good times of Video Games.

Hah, yeah. I see I brought some people down memory lane. I loved that game myself, but it was impossible to continue following considering they left it was it was that top down 2D type game.

when you opened a gate so you and your buddies could all jump in a gate and travel to your marked rune and gank anyone there.

It was a pvp server so when you killed someone you could take all their ***. the joy/frustration of killing/dieing in UO.

There are so many things I miss from UO that would make ESO an even deeper monster.

My biggest thing is treasure maps. These need to be done like UO. Different levels. Cartography skill to read. The higher the level the higher the difficulty. Monsters spawn with chests, scaled according to difficulty, loot as well.

Those level 5 maps were amazing as a bard/cartographer.

Man, as soon as I saw "Kal ort por" I immediately had a flashback of a faction raid on the Britannia Bank. Minding my own business, doing some banking when portals start popping up everywhere and orange names pour through.

    Literally rumbled for hours.

    Amazing

I think the OP (so many years ago now) was suggesting something similar be added to ESO.... As many wayshrines etc as we have now, I can't think it would have been needed, but then again, it's an interesting mechanic....

    Greetings,

We have closed this topic as it was originally created in July 2017. In many cases, it's better to create a new thread on a topic that you want to discuss as opposed to bumping one that is rather old.

    Thank you for your understanding.
