Bewilderment & Almalexia cycling

I think it is a broken mechanic that one cannot cycle bewilderment cards with Alma, neither per patron nor by the alma standard cards.

For other mechanics one can use these bewilderment cards but not with Alma.

its an order of operations thing

other operations such as discarding cards happen before your allowed to play anything, and bewilderments are auto-played when you start your turn

since you have to have the card in your hand when using an almalexia cards or patron, you cannot "discard" them because they auto play, but if the opponent inflicts a "discard X cards" that happens before your allowed to play anything (including bewilderments)

other mechanics such as card removals or using treasury on bewilderments can be done after the bewilderment card is already "played" and before it enters your cooldown pile at end of turn

    plays PC/NA

    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

I think that people understand how the game works, but are suggesting that it works a different way.
    Don't tank

well, its not a "broken mechanic" its functioning as designed

if thats what the intention was then it should have been worded "change bewilderments so they dont autoplay"

even the card description says its played immediately, and a played card cannot be used for almalexia as it requires discarding a card in your hand during the phase you can play cards

Why not think that "broken" is being used in the "unfun unbalanced" sense than "bug sense?"

I won't assume that English is everyones first language, but I do encourage everyone to keep an open mind. The people posting on the forum often are expressing, in their own ways, a dialog of improving the game that can only emerge through some understanding.

On one of my recent posts another TOT enthusiast understood my language of making suggestions for improvements and, even then, they felt the need to give the example of how the game rules work. But we know how the game works and it is sort of reactionary thinking to resort to having to recite the current rules in the face of a suggestion. But again, I won't assume command of the language by any poster. It's incredibly easy to interpret words in an non-intended way. I just encourage that everyone remains thoughtful when seeing suggestions for improvements.

Shouldn't we all want all things to be better? Isn't that the background that we come from?

i never said i was against changing it lol, since bewilderments still have no effect anyway so regardless if you do or dont play it, it would let almalexia counter rahjin to some extent

but my day job is a programmer, so when i see the word broken i think "not working correctly"

though i know within the context of the game "broken" can mean stuff like certain builds which are OP under the right situations, or people call the crows "broken" because of the combo+drawing system

but to me thats not "broken" in the sense of how i read the word, OP or unintended maybe, but not "broken" as it is technically speaking functioning correctly

I don't like the game's idea that bewilderment *automatically* goes to cool down.

If we're trying to replicate a real world game of cards, then all that's happening with bewilderment should be that the game is showing you what you would *choose* to do with bewilderment cards -- namely put them in cooldown because you can't do anything else with them -- to save you the bother. But what's *actually* happening as the game does it is the equivalent of a physical card jumping out of your hand by itself and going for a walk (and consequently the cards don't work with Almalexia).

I tend to think that they shouldn't work with Almalexia because that is giving a reward for a type of card that is meant to be the very opposite (Tithe requires gold to use, the destroy card mechanic is designed to destroy cards, but using Almalexia simply to pull free cards to get round bewilderment feels like a get out of jail free card). But perhaps they should tweak Alma's description to avoid confusion.

    Greetings,

We have closed this topic as it was originally created in 2023. In many cases, it is better to create a new thread as some aspects of the game may have changed, and some information could no longer be accurate, or up-to-date.

    Thank you for your understanding,
