Some people might think Eso is in trouble and some dont think it is, I dont think youre the one to decide what people think.

I never told anyone to think anything. I am just stating a fact.

I'm more worried about boring posts on the forums tbh.

OP just play the game and stop worrying so much (learn to love the....)

I’d be more worried about the release of ES6 for the population of ESO than another MMO.

But as others have said, another MMO isn’t nearly as dangerous as the choices that the devs continue to make in development of their own game. Being completely out of touch communication wise with your player base for years and implementing none of the community’s suggestion update after update with extremely sparse updates altogether is a bigger problem

Funny thing is I only see people in this forum have a problem with Eso updates, I never see it in game or on some eso Facebook groups im in. This tiny population of people that thinks stuff sucks might think this forum contains all of Eso player base?

Eso have alot to work on, but their player base isnt the people on the forum and I respect them for recognize that, if even 100 people say something on forum it still might not be what most of Eso players want, need or have been asking for.

But one thing Zos can be better at is communicating

You can extrapolate this logic to everything in our world lol. Of course it doesn’t encompass the whole player base. My guilds, discords, twitter, Reddit, often share this sentiment though. Doesn’t include everyone as no opinion ever will, but it sure is a popular one.

No need for being so nitpicky. There are tons of people that have issues with the update. Whether you’re on Facebook or Twitter or Reddit or MySpace has no bearing.

Just because it's 10 years old doesn't necessarily mean ESO is in decline, but it would be completely reasonable if it was after so many years.

I don't care about playing a popular game. My main worry is how financially successful the game has been because I worry that the backend wasn't developed efficiently in favor of rapid growth. I think this is a reason we've seen them try to find efficiencies through the recent nerfs to the trading and mail systems.

Its databases appear massive because of the staggering number of items in the game and the codebase seems complex and convoluted from 10 years of feature creep -- including basically redesigning the game after launch.

So this might not be an MMO that can exist for very long on "life support" once it truly goes into a player activity decline.

Wow is 20 years old and not in decline. Age has nothing to do with a game’s decline. What about runescape?

It’s all about the developers’ vision, their relationship with the community, and community sentiment around the game.

I can’t honestly say I have any idea what their vision for the future is as they’ve never said what it is. Their relationship with the community is not the best. And while the average player doesn’t always interact with forums like these or social media, I do think while many of us love the game, we are all a bit annoyed and burnt out for the most part on recent updates and content cadence. That doesn’t spell a good future for the game imo.

If an MMO can make a giant leap, then ZOS might have something to worry about. Only 1 MMO has ever directly lead to the deaths of its competitors and that was WOW. It was just all around a better experience than anything else on the market at the time.
One of those games that died was of course the game ESO's Cyrodiil pvp is heavily based upon; Dark Age of Camelot.

This is definitely GvG, ie Game versus Game but was it Game Over?

People have been saying this every time a new MMO comes out for the last 10 years. Meanwhile, ESO continues have a far healthier population than the games they proclaimed would be it's demise.

Given the track record of many of the new MMO's lately- from Devs over-promising and under-delivering, to the mere mention of certain game studios causing people to jump ship before a project even launches, I'm not really concerned about competition taking ESO out. The competition, thus far, has been a huge disappointment.

If ESO has any problem staying afloat, it will be an internal one. I can't see the competition wiping it out. I can, however, see the potential for a lot of mistakes being made if things continue on the track they've been heading in going forwards. Will those mistakes be it's downfall? Eh. I've seen worse MMO's stay alive when I thought they wouldn't. ESO is no where near that bad, and I doubt it ever will be. But I do hope they improve upon next years content, because this year was disappointing for the money spent.

    Legends never die
    They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
    Legends never die

I remember around the time The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition released in 2016, people in-game were worried that ESO would be in decline. Others in zone chat claimed that since it was just a remaster of Skyrim, that the ESO population wouldn't be affected too much.

Would The Elder Scrolls VI take a larger chunk of ESO's population than Skyrim Special Edition did? I think so, but only temporarily. ESO is still the only multiplayer TES game, barring the spinoffs like Legends. ESO caters to both the MMORPG audience and the Elder Scrolls audience. TES VI won't be another MMO, so while the players who are here for a TES experience are occupied with TES VI, those who value the multiplayer or MMO aspect of the game will remain.

Besides, if you've invested any time into ESO at all, you'll likely feel a desire to return even if TES VI has you occupied for a few months. I'm sure ESO will have some special event or cosmetics to celebrate the release of TES VI, kind of like that new pet inspired from The Elder Scrolls: Castles, which recently released. ESO can coexist with TES VI.

There are many MMO but only one TES based MMO

I play ESO because its TES but online, no other MMO currently use the TES universe

ESO gave decent insight as on the other regions of Tamriel and deadric realms, its quite a book to "play" about TES lore

Its the only place you can in essence explore about all of Tamriel (granted you gotta buy the DLC for that) since the Beyond Skyrim mod series isn't out yet

There's always new MMOs being announced/released and rarely is a new MMO the cause of another MMO declining.

The only threat to ESO, or any other MMO, is itself. And sadly, I would say there are many things to be worried about in ESO's case currently.... it's just simply not "the next insert MMO name killer".

This and most are not very good at all. I remember the hype around Wildstar and ArcheAge. Neither justified the hype IMO.

Many regular players will take a break from their game to try a new one, but most will return to their main game.
