Infinite Archive Skip Coins!

If you had the choice to buy these coins for Gold or Archival fortunes would you buy them?

As it says, the Skip Coins would let you skip a stage/cycle/arc to a cost.

I'd use them, but they sound like cheating and would go against the spirit of the Infinite Archive as a roguelike experience.

But then you'd just get smashed by the next boss that takes you 15 minutes to whittle away its health with your zero buffs.

Honestly its been said a million times before, IA needs a continue from where you left option, or save points at least.

I was thinking a skip coin instead of a save option as many players on this forum wants.

If it just have a save option i can just save at Arc 5 and run that arc endlessly for currency but with Skip coins there is a cost to it.

And no leaderboard progress after using a coin

Saving wouldn't let you just run 1 arc repeatedly, it'd save that run. So if you fail or progress, then the save will reflect that.

So if you run out of threads you go back to Arc 1?

Do you think people will be happy with that? As I have read on this forum people want to push them self in IA and thats mean dying and restart at the same point where you died

That is NOT what most people are asking for. A save in IA should allow you continue from a previous run, and once you do, that save is gone. When you lose all your threads, you have to start from Arc 1 again. If you want a cost, then make saving deduct one thread.

It's like saves in Maelstrom Arena. When you reach stage X and leave, you can continue from that stage again. But once you clear the whole arena, you cannot restart every subsequent run from there.

But I think Skip Coins would benefit more players then a Save option.

If you always die at Arc 3 last boss for example you can in every run just pay your way to Arc 3 with in game currency to continue try to progress in IA.

The instance is owned by the group leader. The other person can leave, and you can invite a different person to join your run. What happens is the person who left your group doesn't have a copy of your run; if that person went back to the Infinite Archive by themselves, they'd be in an entirely different instance.

A save feature would essentially mean that the group leader can return to their instance of the Infinite Archive (with all of their selected Verses and Visions) after a period longer than just 5 minutes, which is the default timer for inactive group instances. Players joining the group leader would lack the Verses and Visions up to that point if they weren't originally there for it — this is how it works in-game; only Companions are retroactively given Visions based on your own Vision selection.

The idea of skipping stages is very different from the idea of returning to where you left off. Skipping stages allows you to skip gameplay segments, whereas returning to an existing run is already possible in the game — we just want the "save" to last longer than 5 minutes before it's wiped.

In short, players must begin at Arc 1 every single time they start a new run. "Saving" a run just means continuing a run that's already in progress. "Skipping" would mean the player would never need to start at the beginning again, which goes against what a roguelike is designed to be.

If you were to lose all of your threads in a run you resumed, your next run would not start at the same place you left off. That's how a roguelike should be.

I still maintain that players should have to restart at Arc 1 every single time their run ends. You don't begin a roguelike game on the later stages; everything that happens during the course of a run affects your ability to reach higher stages, from the random enemies that spawn to the enhancements and abilities you get.

All a skip feature would do is give you more lives. If you just barely made it to Arc 7 and then in a future run skipped forward to Arc 7 at the start, then you'd have more threads than you would normally have if you had spent the time to get there manually.

What would be the point of beginning a run at Arc 7, where the trash mobs take ages to kill, except for the purpose of score pushing on the leaderboards using skips? What if I reached Arc 10 while with another player, then skipped forward to Arc 10 while solo to secure an unreasonable place on the solo leaderboard that I'd never be able to reach without skipping? Would this "bookmark" carry over across characters, so I could pay to get one character of every Class to Arc 10 of the solo leaderboard with zero effort?

Finally, I want to stress that because people want a skip option that this game is working as intended. Roguelikes are designed to be addictive. People want to push themselves to go as far as they can, but they're limited by RNG and their own ability.

A skip feature would just offer those players a shortcut to accomplishing that goal in a fraction of the time and effort, which is neither desirable from an MMO design perspective (need to keep people playing frequently and for a long time, but not long enough to cause burnout) nor from a roguelike design perspective (players won't return to start again if they're given a favorable run every single time).

I'm more with saving progress, working in such a way that the latest saving does erase the previous one, and once at the end (all completed), does reset to zero, so that if we repeat, we have to restart from the beginning.

For me, the key point is that players shouldn't be able to skip content they have not yet done. The coins concept would need a powerful tracker, able to recognize if content has been done and blocking the use of coins if not. Then, once reaching the end, the tracker should re-initialize for the next repeat. It's of course technically possible, but I don't think that it would be easy to implement.

I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA

But then you'd just get smashed by the next boss that takes you 15 minutes to whittle away its health with your zero buffs.

Honestly its been said a million times before, IA needs a continue from where you left option, or save points at least.
I couldn't agree more, because the IA is basically designed to keep players at their gaming computers for unhealthy periods of time.

Any save option would work like it does in Maelstrom Arena, where it is tied to the quest and saves the instance at the last arena cleared. It does not permit running and clearing the last arena, or any given arena, endlessly. Once the last arena is cleared, nothing is saved.

It makes more sense to have something similar to that than whatever a skip coin would be. That is unless the skip coin was exclusive to the Crown Store and an LTA offered once every couple of years. That is the only way it would make sense. /s
