Unified Cyrodiil Repair Kits

Unified Cyrodiil Repair Kits
Cyrodiil Repair Kits have now been unified! Going forward you’ll no longer acquire Siege Repair Kit, Keep Wall Masonry Repair Kit, Keep Door Woodwork, and so on. Now, there’s just a single Cyrodiil Repair Kit that will work on all the structures that used to require individual repair kits. These new kits can be purchased for 250 Alliance Points or 90 gold from various merchants, and can also be found in Rewards for the Worthy.

Below are the repair rates for different items:
Keep Door – 5,000
Keep Wall – 5,000
Bridges & Milegates – 5,000
Siege Weapon – 20,000
Note the old repair kits in your inventory have not changed and will still work as before.

Since the servers are not up yet I can not verify, but it sounds like the old kits are not converting to the new kits. If this is the case can the old kits gold value be set to 90 gold so that players may choose to unify their kits themselves?

Or you could just use up your old kits and hold off on buying the new kits? I personally plan to destroy mine, as I have way too much AP anyway.

The whole point of unifying them was to take up less quick slots. Using the old kits puts one at a disadvantage of having to make sure they are accessible for the situation.

I have quite a few of the old ones due to PvPing on several characters and not wanting to run to the bank frequently to restock.

There is really no reason not to come up with a way to convert them, because they are just as expensive now as they were before.

I mean, it would be nice if they converted, for sure… but look at it this way: once you’ve worked your way through those remaining repair kits, you’ll reclaim those quick slots forever.

We managed to get through ten years without unified siege, so if folks are too stubborn to just delete the old ones on principle, I’m sure they’ll survive a few more days with them on their quickslot wheel.

Yeah, I'm in the game now looking at my bank and the kits didn't convert. Which deleting or selling the old kits is a really crappy option since I have several stacks. I'm not angry; I'm disappointed. :(

If you do not express your dissatisfaction about something in the game ZOS will assume you are satisfied with it. It is ZOS responsibility to consider their costomer's complaints and respond to them.

There would be less complaining if ZOS would give definitive answers to many of the ongoing complaints, such as "No, we have no plans to do that." or "Yes, we have plans to do that."

I had thought the original plan was to convert them, but they must have run into some sort of technical difficulty.

We asked them repeatedly during the PTS to convert the old ones and they told us at the time that they were not intending to do so.

Which is rather crappy from a "game polish" view, since now along with the new kit, the old kits are still taking up space in the game's item database and will be hanging around forever in the banks of idle accounts. It may not seem like much, but when things like this accumulate, that's how bugs in the spaghetti code happen. It's inefficient at best.

That’s why I’m going to do my part for the cause and just delete them. ;) There’s probably some specific reason why they couldn’t convert them. Sucks, but eh, they’re not that expensive.

As they did convert the normal repair kits, I would assume there is some technical reason why it's not worth the effort. There were obviously technical issues with the implementation itself leading to the delay, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the reason for the decision.

Just speculating, of course. Maybe they just really hate you. ;)

They didn't convert the normal repair kits either. They renamed the previous grand repair kits to equipment repair kits, and made all future repair kit drops be those. Old petty, common etc repair kits remain as they were with old names and limitations.

I assume the reason in both cases is that they don't have a way they feel comfortable with to turn two different items into the same one.

I'm sure it has to do with the fact that all of the old ones still have item IDs.

In order to convert them, it wouldn't be [individual repair kit] -> [new repair kit] like people think it would be. Item conversion will just convert the thing that a set item ID points to. They can't convert one item ID to another.

Therefore, since they're going from four unique items (wall repair kit, door repair kit, bridge/milegate repair kit, siege repair kit) with four unique IDs down to one catch-all thing, the only way they'd have been able to do the conversion would be to go through every account and count how many of each there were, then remove them all from those accounts in order to add X number of finished kits. And that's not even assuming that accounts will have them spread between bank/storage/different characters. That would almost require a new piece of software written specifically for that.

They could have done what happened to the equipment repair kits, in that the lower ones are still around but then one of them was just converted to the catch all version and the others were left as legacy. That would at least have converted one of the repair kits, but then which one would be the 'real' version and which would be legacy?

Best thing to do - just delete them or go use them up. It's annoying, but I can see that to convert them all would have taken far more resources than involved in just getting rid of the old things and being done with it.

i was deleting the old repair stuff already lol, hated using it

with the unified ones, i might actually bother to quick slot them lol

i was kind of anticipating that they wouldnt be converted, because most previous cases the old items were not converted (the only case where stuff was converted was the jewelry temper change)

i remember the old provisioning ingredient simplification, and the changes to soul gems, and the normal repair kits, none of these removed the old items, but there was no reason to keep the old items either

I felt the same way at first when the equipment repair kits were unified and only the Grand Repair Kits were converted.

But then I realized that the prices of the various repair kits were different, and if all existing kits had been converted then the players could have exploited the conversion process by purchasing gobs of the cheapest repair kits for practically nothing before the update went live and then rolling in the new unified repair kits after the conversion.

This (together with siege stacking) was my most wanted feature of this update. Sadly, I got no benefit from it - all my siege/door/etc repair kits are old and still take inventory slots. I do not want to delete them, because I have stacks and it would mean I wasted AP/gold on them in the past :/

I think there needs to be some way to exchange old repair kits to new unified kits, some vendor in Cyrodiil could offer this service.

I actually don't mind the fact that the kits weren't converted- I kept a couple stacks of each kit for sentiment's sake stored in my house.

But I get wanting to be able to convert them. For those who still have old kits, it would be nice if they implemented a means to convert the old kits back to AP so that players could use the AP to buy new kits.

I mean... they are repair kits. I throw them out every single time I leave Cyrodiil.

This isn't quite the same level as the maelstrom weapons. Are you really so hardup for AP you can't afford to just get rid of them and buy the new ones? Personally, I'd probably hang on to a couple just as novelty items (which might be half the reason they didn't convert them in the first place.)

Earlier this year, either during or sometime before the 10-year anniversary event, I saw at least one player in zone chat who was wanting to buy some old items which are no longer in the game. I don't remember if they were pieces of gear, ingredients, or what, but the would-be buyer was offering several million in gold for each of them.

I used to hate the idea of purchasing repair kits, especially after I discovered that they (along with siege equipment, Alliance potions, and Cyrodilic field rations and field treats) can drop as loot from fighting those Imperial soldiers camped all over Cyrodiil. I used to farm Imperials whenever I needed any of those things, rather than spending gold or AP on them.

Now I just spend a bit of gold on the repair kits. I've already got more siege equipment than I need stashed in the bank, so I try not to buy those unless making a quick dash to the banker is out of the question. But as for the repair kits, I always used up any masonry or wood repair kits that I got from killing Imperials, since it's easier to repair walls and doors than to try to repair siege kits during a siege. On the other hand, I do occasionally use my siege repair kits to repair forward camps.
