Hat Collectible Disappearing when Zoning

ArgentAegis
Not sure if this is something that has been addressed before, but I have noticed that I cannot zone without losing my selected hat collectable forcing me to re-equip it. It used to only happen occasionally, especially if I jumped on a mount immediately (I would get a message that said that the collectable is not available yet), but now it just unequips (without a message) as soon as I zone in.

Is this a known issue with the number of collectibles used or did something happened in the last update that altered a setting? It is more annoying than game breaking, but re-equipping every zone is just getting tedious.

Can't say that I've noticed hats being unequiped, but I'll verify that when the servers are back online.

Unequiping a collectible after zoning definitely isn't standard behavior, and you can have a collectible active in each possible category. I don't know what platform you're on, but if it's pc, have you tried zoning without any addons loaded?

The armory style manager addon recently needed an update because it's no longer possible to immediately (de)activate a collectible after switching armory builds, and needs a delay now. So it sounds like maybe you're running an addon which for some reason unequips your hat before/after zoning, and that it fails to re-equip it the instant you enter the new location?

Thanks for the reply. I am on PCNA. I have not tried without addons. I do run with Wizard's Wardrobe, but have for sometime and the outfits are all the same if not gear. I found an old post about a limit to the number of collectibles being 5 or 6, but that was a really old post. I do have quite a few collectibles active - which may include mounts since I used to get the hat disappearing, and the message, if I mounted too quickly after zoning in.

My current theory is that there is a limit to the number that can be active after zoning and maybe the hat is low priority. When the server comes back up, I am going to try to deactivate a few collectibles and see if that changes anything. I will also try without Wizard Wardrobe to your point, since it increased in frequency more recently.

Never experienced this one before. PC NA no steam, no armory addons.

The only collectible/zoning problem I often experience is when I port to inside my house, then leave the house, my companion often needs to be resummoned.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

I don't use Wizard Wardrobe myself, but the description says it manages gear, spells, cps and buff food. No mention of collectibles. If the problem persists with WW disabled, try once with all addons disabled, that's the easiest way to confirm/disprove that it's addon related.

Collectibles seem to be misbehaving in various ways of late! Separate issue to the one discussed, but recently myself and a few other players have noted issues with collectibles visually disappearing from player houses, such as storage chests not being visible to one player whereas another player was able to see them and interact with them.

For example, I ported to my own house, and my storage chests were gone. Checking the housing menu, they showed up millions of miles away. Meanwhile, another player who was with me was able to see them normally in the actual location they were in. They happened to have Decorator rights so they were able to enter the editing menu, select the items, and that made them visible to me again and no longer showed incorrectly in the housing menu. It didn't happen to any other collectible though, only the storage chests. Very strange!

Edit: if addons are in use though, there are some addons that can change your equipped collectibles when zoning so that might be an explanation for the OP rather than a bug. Quick Fashion for example lets you save profiles per zone and automatically equip them when zoning in, so perhaps you've accidentally saved a profile without a hat and are having it automatically loading when zoning.

    Just tested it.

Equipped a character with a hat, hair style, head marking, facial hair, major adornment, minor adornment, costume, body markings, a personality and a pet. No issue having all those active. Skipped skin and polymorph as they disable some of the other collectibles. Teleported to a wayshrine in a different zone, spamming mount key to mount up as soon as possible. All collectibles still active.

Toggling a hat in the collections menu is the way some add-ons proactively try to clear the weapon surfing bug. Unfortunately it sometimes doesn’t switch back on due to lag.

Clutch is a standalone add-on for this, but Wizard’s Wardrobe also has the functionality built in as of 06.06.22: https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info3170-WizardsWardrobe.html#changelog

    Thanks loosej and virtus753.

I have tested it a little myself, and came up with something similar. I found that using wayshrines normally (click and go to another zone) would only briefly disable my hat as long as I do not use mount immediately, which generates "Collectable not ready message. Using wayshrines in the same zone does not affect the hat.

If I use the addon Beam Me Up and go to my house or a wayshrine where a guildmate is near, it seems to create something called "Finvir's Trinket" and I have the issue. I also found that occasionally porting in I get a 'buff" for the "Soul Summons" passive in Soul Magic which also affects the hat.

Regardless, every time I go to a new zone or instance, the hat blinks and at best comes back after a tick or does not at all. That is the only collectable affected. I have five collectables active - without the mount. The number does not seem to matter. Only the hat collectable seems to be affected - none of the others switch off.

Before reading your replies, it seems that anything that is added as a hidden buff may interrupt the hat equip. I added S'rendarr a few months ago, so I now see those buffs. I will try the addon above. Barring that, I may try to test deactivating S'rendar buff display to see if that display is interrupting the process in addition to testing without the BMU & WW addons.

Virtus' comment means the 06.06.22 addition to Wizard Wardrobe is your most likely culprit. I'd try loading without that one first. Additionally, check the WW settings menu and see if there's an option to enable/disable that behavior.

I'll look at that as maybe that is what is causing the 'blink' off and then back on and the mount issue. I think I discovered the culprit for the full hat unequip. It looks like the latest Crown Crate customized action "Recall of the Outer Darkness" is causing it. It has an arrival animation. When using the BMU addon or the map select (paid transport) the action plays and I get the issue. I disabled the action and all I get now is the quick blink unequip and the mount issue. That is manageable as long as I wait a few seconds before mounting. If this holds true after a few more tests, I will submit it as a bug. Since I used endeavor points, it would be annoying to not be able to use it for such a stupid reason.

But since you pointed out the issue with WW, I have hopes that the mount issue may be fixable. I would just hate losing that addon's useful function. Does the other addon (Dressing Room?) have the same issue?

    ***Update***
Definitely Wizards Wardrobe. I was even able to reactivate the customized recall. Well....that is that. Thanks for the advice. Now I have to see if there is the same issue with the other equipment/skills changing addons.

    Thanks all.

Try disabling this setting, you'll probably be able to keep using the addon.

Thank you so much for all your help! That worked. Simple fix after all. But it was interesting to see how the customized action further broke the equipping process with the surfing fix enabled.

I had this problem too, then I just start looking at addons. It IS the first thing what you must doo because there is so much settings in the addons what can mess with the game.
I ususaly not wearing any hats on characters but I recently changed outfit and using hat and I had that "issue" when zoning. Then I remembered that I turned on some thing in WW addon and voila.
Turned off "Fix surrfing on weapons". Btw that bug should be fixed long ago. I didn't encoutered some long time when I didn't used WW addon.
