Luminous Ink from Surveys???

Ok cannot find any info saying they added it as a possible drop from surveys, maybe I missed the announcement because I've just dropped 2 lots of 2 Inks from Blacksmith Surveys in Alik'r.

Spotted the first two and thought I was seeing things, so kept watch and managed to screenshot the second two......

To clarify there are no other nodes within that survey area.

ive seen others report that ink now drops with surveys

but ive also heard the rate are pretty poor, saw in another thread someone said nearly 200 surveys they only got 4 ink

Yes, it's no different than getting the occasional nirncrux when doing surveys in Craglorn, or those fragments of special style mats that drop from resource nodes in certain zones.

Had one too and from BS as well. Every report I have seen so far was from BS survey.

I recently did a bunch of Blacksmithing Surveys and got a couple dozen Ink from them. I don't know if it helped my chances at getting Ink, but I used the "travel to a non-owned house to reset the surveys" trick, and I was getting Ink at least from every other survey. I also did a bunch of Alchemy Surveys but got no Ink from those. And I still have all of the other craft surveys to do so will see if any of those drop Ink.

While doing crafting surveys you can travel to any non-owned house and after leaving the house you will be returned to the last location before entering the house (this only works with non-owned houses). And this will make the next crafting survey spawn automatically without having to run back and forth from the survey's location.

If you're on PC (not sure if this works on consoles), then you can use a script to travel to any house without having to open the map...

Script for traveling to the inside of any house (replace "houseId" with the House Id that you want to travel to):

Yeah, same. Chests and heavy sacks seem to be more 'generous' than nodes (or mobs for that matter) ever were.

It’s different in that those mats and their sources were all noted in the relevant patch notes (although not always accurately in terms of specific sources).

Surveys were not mentioned as sources of ink in any of the patch notes, and requests for them to be added never got a response. This is a change that was either missed in the patch notes or unintentional. Hope it’s intentional, but it’s hard to feel confident with how many notes get missed.

So I noted the common factor seemed to be blacksmith surveys.

I did some alchemy and woodworking ones and saw no inks, decided to try blacksmith again and low and behold more ink dropped!

I have searched again myself and can find no official confirmation drops were added to surveys, so definitely a bit odd.

I may just do some more "testing" later! 🤓

If I had to theorize... when they were adding the "rare chance of getting the new ore harvesting action" to ore nodes, somebody added in ink to the loot pool of ore nodes as well.
