It continues a long trend of bias in favour of Dumner and Khajiit which is apparent if you look at housing. Dunmer probably because of the popularity of Morrowind. Khajiit? I don't know.

And another clue might be in this roll-out where companions have to be bought.

Players upset that they can't have a companion of a race they want?

Was hoping for nord, bosmer or orc for these... I'm still gonna get these two for the passives and quests as per usual, even if I'm disappointed. A bummer they decided to repeat race so early, but I do like the premise of the new companions! I hope the quests are as good (or better) as the other companions'.

It's far more frustrating that these companions were, though I could be misremembering, meant to launch with Gold Road but were delayed and now must be purchased from the crown store instead of being part of a chapter like the other six.

They are not grafting on to an already existing plot. They could have put any race they wanted there.

Eh, IMO Nords are overrepresented in the game generally, and we already have three human companions.

I’m glad we’re getting an Altmer and they’re not the megalomaniacal necro stereotype. The Khajiit necromancer companion intrigues me.

Could be as simple as Necro came out with Elsweyr so maybe the association (internally) with that?

For me, I don’t mind companion races. But I do think it very unfair that not all races have a companion yet. My BFF has been hoping for a Nord for years now.

That’s literally a Nord passive.

I get wanting to be different, but wouldn’t a Nord spellcrafting Necromancer be the very definition of that?

We don't know that yet. It's something we haven't seen but it could be based on the lore.

While I hope everyone eventually gets the Companion in the particular Race they were hoping for, I am actually glad ZOS decided to try repeating a Race and a Class this year. This gives us insight into what we could expect for the future of the Companions system, and hopefully ZOS doesn't feel pressured to hit every single Race before repeating any more of them. I'm sure the story of our second Khajiit Companion is worthwhile!

I say shield and sword or axe is Nord stereotype. Now its based on vikings who used round shields but two handed axes was also an thing for them. Later armor become better and shields fell out of fashion over two handed weapons at least for the ones in good armor. At this time it was no viking culture but the same happened in Japan as armor got better.

In-game lore and racial passives have always indicated Nords were closer in relation to fantasy Barbarians rather than real-world Vikings.

While a S&S Nord wouldn’t be a problem, it just feels like ZOS are trying to reinvent the wheel rather than establish themselves as part of it.

Does anyone know if there will be game achievements for leveling up these Crown store companions like the previous ones? It would seem unfair to me to have it that way.

At least one that unlocks their special bonus permanently. So yes, it look like you can't complete all achievements then if you don't own them.

I was waiting for a new Orc or Nord companion with a two-handed weapon. And now we have another Khajiit. I'm disappointed.

It’s been 24hrs and I am still in shock and upset.

I had a whole bow set in the bank ready for a bosmer that I assumed would be a slam dunk with this chapter.

I am just stunned.
