New templar IA set is terrible

You have to do four separate things, and cast at least 3 spells (maybe more to get the burning light stacks quickly) to get the set to proc:
1) cast a spell that generates stacks of burning light, and accumulate 4 stacks of burning light ( a passive achieved by doing damage with aedric spear abilities)., then burning light does damage: this is the first condition
2) cast spells that generates a second stack of 4 burning lights , that then does damage
At the very best, it takes 2 seconds for each of those steps, but it could take as much as ten seconds in combat!
3) find the circle somewhere on the ground-- it only lasts 6 seconds, so find it fast!
4) Cast an aedric damage spell to do some damage-- THEN the set will proc a (SMALL) damage proc!

Really, this is just terrible design. Compare this to tarnished nightmare , where it procs automatically every 8 seconds when you crit. And, it does MORE damage than this set!

ZOS, before you introduce new sets, you should make sure they are at least as good as the top ten existing sets.

I know there arent many new ideas out there.

While I also find it annoying that we have yet another multi-step nonsense class set for Templar, Aetherial Lancer is really strong.

I took it in to cyrodil and it was doing 5k damage to guards-- not strong--

5k damage to guards with a 15k tooltip?

Were you built into w/s damage? It scales extremely well and hits as hard as an ultimate, which is why it has so many steps to it.

It's definitely not terrible, id give it maybe 6 or 7/10 just because have to chase the proc around. It procs fairly quickly and does add some nice DMG to jabs or one of the other abilities, it's just a bit clunky to use

1: Incorrect, burning light was changed back with U35 to proc off any damage you do, so all you have to do is damage an enemy with ANY damage source at least 4 times with no longer than 3 seconds between damage instances, so "it just works"

2: see point 1, just hit the target more than once every 3 seconds.

3: the circle spawns within melee distance of the target that proced it, only issue is that it tends to be in a funny position forcing you to move

4: yeah, but small proc damage? gotta ask, are you actually..built for damage? cuz i'm getting 12-14k procs off this thing on live.

so in *other* words the set is

1: hit an enemy at least 8 times with no more than 3 seconds between instaces of damage
2: circle around enemy to touch aoe
3: use a Aedric Spear ability to do tasty damage, apply sundered and gain +300 weapon and spell damage for 6 seconds.

also the set has downtime of 1 second and is one of the simplier class sets.... all in all 7/10, only held back by templar being in an uncomfrotble spot

I tested it in Cyrodil on Resource guards, they often can do some bizarre things. So in Cyrodil you can't build a templar for pure damage.

But I was using Order's wrath, Aethric lance and Saint and seducer mythic.
That build can give me 7k spell/wea damage, 40% crit chance, up to 134% crit damage (ie occasionally over the cap) , 9k penetration (plus good heals/survivabilty)

On test dummy this build averaged 12k aetheric lances with max crit of 22k. The lance procced about every 7-10 seconds ( I did a very short test) , I imagine with practice you could bring this down,

although, again, in PvP this set would be useless. You can't just run wherever you want in PvP without getting killed.

The other point is that, for example, tarnished nightmare hits all targets in an 8m radius, has no conditions, no building of stacks, no finding a circle in the chaos of battle.

Tarnished is admittedly overpowered. But put it into the above build and in Cyrodil your templar is strong damage

For PvP I'd rate this set 3/10.

Quit chasing gear about the time of the nirnroot debacle in Shadowfen during the Harpooners Kilt craze.

Doesn't matter what you have on these days, ball groups mow you down just the same.

    What's your rating for PvE?

Well, for dealing with lots of trash (Blackrose Prison or IA) there are better sets (since this proc is single target)
For dungeons and overland I don't think it matters much
I think on bosses , eg in IA or dungeons, it would be fine.
I don't think it would work for trial bosses, because the circle moves around the target, and if it goes in front of the boss you could not go there as dps

But other people who have commented above I think were talking about pvE and they gave it 6-7/10
