Xbox controller issues on PC NA since 4pm CET 12AUG

Hi,
I play with an Xbox controller on PC NA, and normally don't have any issues. I use the default controller layout.
Today it worked just fine until the 4pm CET refresh, when the game also shows a refreshed crown store advertisement popup.
Ever since then, the sensitivity is way too high, the up/down camera movement is therefore way too fast, walking at a normal speed will sometimes cause the character to dodge-roll or do other unpredictable things.
Furthermore, normally, pressing the D-pad buttons only performs menu functions without character movement (which is on the joystick). E.g. holding the D-pad button up opens the radial menu. But now, the D-pad buttons also move the character, so he runs ahead while I try to open the radial menu.
I've looked through se settings and tried turning controller mode on and off, swapped controllers to a Turtle Beach spare, but it's all the same. I've also shut down and restarted the game, all to no avail.
I also cannot interact with a quest NPC that I'm supposed to talk to.
Furthermore, the menu button doesn't open the controller menu but the PC menu, and trying to go through that with the buttons sometimes randomly opens the chat. I can only use the mouse for any settings.
With the current eccentric movement, the game is not playable.

No, overall the settings are still as they should be, and I didn't change anything about the controls in the first place, it was all on default mapping. It was working fine while I was playing, and at the daily rollover time, it changed unprompted.

    Update:
It's working again, but it seems something was off or got reset after all.

If anyone else has a similar issue:
I waited a while, restarted the PC, swapped the controller back to the first one I used, started the game again, logged into a different character than the one I was playing before, and there it was OK.
Then I logged back to the character the issue occurred with, and now it was fixed there, too, but I also got several belated tutorials shown all of a sudden.
So I'm guessing there was some kind of hiccup going on somewhere lol.

Do you use steam for eso or anything else? When steam is running, unless you disable it, it will attempt to force your controller to use a configuration you specify in the steam settings. This often results in the exact things you've described if you haven't configured it in steam - increased sensitivity, double inputs, etc.

Oh I didn't know that, that's really interesting, thanks! I don't play ESO on Steam, I use the ZOS launcher, but I had Steam running in the background, so that could easily have been it!
I switched to playing on PC somewhat recently, so it makes sense that I didn't encounter that before. Good to know!

No problem. I personally have steam disabled on startup so it has to be manually launched for that reason - but you can also just disable the steam controller options in the settings within steam as well.

Thanks, yeah I'll do that! I tested it and it's indeed Steam's fault. Wouldn't have thought of that in a million years, so, much appreciated.

We appreciate the update on this controller issue. As the OP has found out what was causing the issue, the thread will now be closed from further posts.
