Thoughts on a form of difficulty slider/option for Open World/Questing

Howdy everyone! I've been gone a bit and have come back after a few years and going through some questing, catching up on stories and the like and I notice how extremely easy questing content is.

Now, I know questing *should* be easy for many reasons and that's not a bad thing but at a baseline, it's pretty ridiculous. Story bosses do no damage, I can eat every mechanic and not lose any health. The only real challenges are the zone bosses and sometimes whatever the zone events are (harrowstorms for example).

However, I don't think upping the difficulty across the board could be the best move. What if there was some sort of difficulty option like Diablo 4 has with world tiers, where if you increase the diffiulty (increasing enemy HP/Dmg output) you can gain bonus gold and/or XP the higher the difficulty you set.

Wanted to see everyone's opinion on a system like this.
