I would rather have a EU server In the EU like any other decente normal game at launch in 2014 that says it has a EU server.
Nad playing in EU with no Lag to the US is impossible, it's Fisics can't go agains fisics... They can have more or less but they will always have lag.
And for me anything above 100ms is Lag since I'm used to play with beteween 20 and 60ms at tops

Warhammer= Had a base in EU and had its own team working on that version

GW2= Both servers for EU and NA are actually ran from the same locations as the GW1 servers. i play on piken square and i don't lag.

Even Freaking Tera= Is a different team then the NA version. I suggest you do your research before calling me an idiot. And side note if you are going to continue calling insulting me like a child when you APPARENTLY have no idea on how anything works then...well....stop posting, that simple you will get your EU server when you get it. Anyhow i am done with this thread i have already made my point and even showed proof. if you continue this pointless debate then it just shows you wish to argue for the sake of not wanting to lose.

Two facts here:
1st. Only some of the EU countries that are close to the Netherlands-Boston route have limited lag. And that can be questionable during high traffic days as the backbone gets loaded.
2nd. Australia uses a different backbone to connect to the US, where the EU server is situated. Besides the 23m of Oceania's population has an easier time reaching the US than the 500m of the EU (2013 estimates).

In short, common sense dictates that upon launch, all servers should be prepared, ready and deployed. Any other option is a strategic business failure, unless the company already does not care about the EU market.

On a more general note...
In my humble opinion, this is what takes place:

Initial Phase:
This is the first month after the deployment. Company monitors sales and activity on the megaserver that they have deployed in their offices. It is known that after the end of the first 30 days, the first wave of people leave. In that case, they will wait to see how much the server load will decrease.

Phase Two:
This part determines how much of the original megaservers becomes free of load. This is not some mega computer, rather than racks on fiber optics. Linux pretty much allows that type of connectivity to act as one big computer.
The racks that are not in use, will be removed and transported to the EU for redeployment.

Phase Three:
If the number of subscriptions from the EU remain within a financially acceptable level, the company will lease the necessary lines, space and services to install the server racks there. With this step, they won't have to suffer losses for unused server parts if the subs fall too much. Smart, but dangerous.
And communication wise, they will respond that they listened to their subscribers and went through the trouble of installing the new server... which is actually part of the old one that's not being used.

Contingency Phase:
If the subscriptions from the EU drop too much, only the hard core members will most likely remain. In that case, the company will not take the financial risk of installing anything in another continent.

With that plan, they attempt to limit their losses. But the issue is that they also limit their profits. A good game is made or broken at start. If it's only bugs, that can sooner or later be dealt with. But when we have a game that falls mostly within the action categoy with high delays in response, then the entire experience entails more frustration than joy.

From my area, dead at night, the best ping I can get to the Maryland backbone (Zenimax's office area) is 178ms. Add the traffic and the extra server hops and you can estimate the average response rate. Add the lag spikes and, well, dialup starts sounding pretty good at that point!

I was in SWTOR, Guild Wars 2 & Rift since early start. All three started with EU servers. No exceptions. And Trion is not a big company. Watch their videos and they'll admit that themselves as they were proud to be able to provide regular content updates while "being a small company".

Also...
I have the habbit of connecting to both sides of the Atlantic until I select a place for a change of pace in communities and the numbers speak the truth (besides the IPs). In SWTOR the latency in the US server was 288ms (East Coast) and 96ms on the EU server (Shaltin Tunnels back then) that I was in (now moved to The Progenitor... and yes I still sub in SWTOR).

In short, SWTOR & Rift EU servers were (at launch) and are housed in Amsterdam.

The difference with Guild Wars 2 (that made some suspicious) was that their authorization server was in Dallas, Texas (that also sends the verification emails), but their physical server location (EU) was and is in Germany (Frankfurt).

Let's use common sense, please. Is the EU a significant market or not?
Otherwise just use a global server and be done with it. Don't brand an "EU" server when there is none in the actual EU. Kind of reminds me my journey in the US when I visited a super market. I encountered a product (super chemical/processed cheese) that had a big sign on it saying "Real Cheese". Only that was the name of the company and had nothing to do with the product itself (which was anything except actual cheese).

We are not talking about tab targeting here...
Play a melee character in pvp or pve and try hitting something...
Some days its betetr then others but man it can frustrate the sh it out of you when you cant hit anything.

Sorry to say but people dont pay a sub to get frustrated.
Try doing some Veteran dungeons.....where your sword hangs in mid air for 3 seconds...and you stand in the poo...
Pure torture to play at some points

The EU servers need to come sooner rather then later or its Zenimax who is going to lose more and more players due to all diffrent reasons.
This mmo is one of the most bugged sub based mmo i have played in recent years.

From lag to OP vampires to skill delay to passives not working and infniteloading screen, the list of bugs is insane
People payed for a product that should be near finished state yes, not paying for an open beta with 6 downtimes a week and still no patch out that fixes the most anoying bugs...

I have patience as i payed up another month, but man i can understand why many are quiting already !
What we need to know is when are the servers comming and when are these bugs fixed ?

A separate EU server was a mistake from the start.
During the development they kept talking about "megaservers" and how everyone will play on the same one, only to suddenly split it into two for some reason.

The EU server is a joke, Zenimax obviously never took it seriously, and it's only a matter of time before it's merged into the NA one. It's inevitable at this point.

This is coming from an european player btw.

That would be instandly unsub for me and many other people.
No other way to say this.

There are studio's out there that dont even have ahalf the budget this studio has and have both USA / EU servers.
To lie against your playerbase as a studio means you make it realy hard on yourself to sell future products.

Lets wait and see what this months brings, if no news about installing EU servers before my next sub is up its game over for me.
Will not support studio's with broken promises.

I mean its something else if they cant or havent fixed a bug quest, its a totaly diffrent story if you dont hold your word to a entire continent playing with lag issues / skill delays.

EU server In EU now (should have been in at launch already)

I was wondering about this myself - I've not really experienced any more lag than has been reported by people in the US - I'm in Scotland, in an international guild with members on both sides of the pond, playing on the EU server. When there is occasionally some lag, we usually ALL get it, including the players who are in the US and elsewhere. Come to that, Neverwinter and STO each have a single worldwide server and their servers are in California - my ping to those is usually fine
