Tried on different computers on different networks and it's the same darn lag.

If you don't want to wait around and read hundreds of postings in the next few weeks, i can make it easier for you and just tell you what's probably going to happen here:

Some people will ask what your problem is, like they don't understand. Some people will say the lag has always been there, is only getting worse and will most likely never be fixed. Some people will say ZOS is doing everything they can, but it will take some time, because they only found out about the lag, and the biggest IT company in the world has problems getting parts for their servers. Then some people will try to tell you they never have lag, ever. Then there will be a couple of discussions about completely different things that have nothing to do with the topic.

You will definitely not get an answer from a person who knows what's really going on. Nobody who could do anything about the lag will ever read this, or ever know that you wrote it. The only ZOS employee reading this will move your thread to another section of the forum, and moderate some postings.

At least that's what happened to the hundreds, maybe thousands of similar threads. Please try to understand, i am not bashing here and not baiting, i am just trying to save time for the OP.

Back to the topic: I have always had lag and every day i have different kinds of problems in the game. I would like to quote forrest gump and his box of chocolates again, but i guess it's getting old... This week i have more problems with rubber banding and rollbacks than ever before.

The lag has been getting considerably worse for more and more players, but it seems no one cares enough to fix it, or they figure folks will tough it out when the new content drops just because of FOMO and general "new shiny stuff" excitement (spoiler alert: They will).

My wife and I had been playing together daily for more than a year (I'd had two years on top of that) when we both got so fed up with the lag issues that we walked away. At first, we even thought it had something to do with upgrading our speed (which did somehow make things noticeably worse) but after extensive testing, playing with settings and generally beating our heads against the problem we finally figured it out: It's not on our end, it never was on our end and every other thing we do just hums along with no issues.

So, yeah OP, I'm sorry to hear that you are on the wrong end of this, but I also kind of half-heartedly welcome you to the club and just want to say that there are donuts and coffee on the table in the back. Get settled in, cause we are gonna be here for a while.

With my current connection lagging in my end I do not even notice most server lag but I do notice getting stuck in combat in PvE slowly worsening. (I only do occasional endeavour cheese in cryo so I do not get in combat to stuck there.) I hope they finally have the promised new hamster farm hardware installed soon™.

It was the rubberbanding and being stuck in combat that drew it to our attention too. We frequently zone quest together, doing full clears and playing the story, and Shadowfen was just a mess. Mobs would teleport, our attack animations would just hang and lag, and all of the damage done over a few seconds to upwards of a minute would hit all at once.

It was like playing peak Cyro against a ball group but it was just my wife, myself and 5 AI enemies.

I dunno what is causing it, but many of our guildies have been noticing it since at least January as well.

And yeah, we posted about it, but it just got quietly moved to bug reports and never addressed.

Lag has been horrendous since the Jan Elsweyr event. Usually it's 250+ but it's been spiking up to 500-999 randomly with constant disconnects when zoning. It's affecting all players in the SEA or Oceanic region. I have no idea how to address this, given that my internet works fine on other sites. There's just something wrong with the connection to the NA server.

And yes, the rubberbanding and DCing has made most content unplayable.

PC EU. Weird, I actually found the server ping to be better than usual this week(50 ping). But I did only notice this after I fixed my FPS issues(check bug forum how, but I doubt that is your issue as well), that any lag was also gone and ping reduced. The ESO servers themselves(PC EU) seem to be running smooth as butter.

Have fully completed shadowfen yesterday, no lag/mobs teleporting issues at all. And have fully completed eastmarch today, no issues whatsoever in both those zones.

Make sure nothing else is using your bandwidth, turn off auto-update for everything, and go through all installed programs their settings to make sure they do not send feedback or use the internet for something else. Because all of that is using bandwidth. Make sure to disable background programs, and make sure your in-game settings are not set too high. On your router discard any unneeded packages, and reserve a certain amount of bandwidth for each connected device. Disconnect/shut off any devices which should not be using the internet at that time.
Maybe check the bug forum/technical support forum to see if any other players have fixed their lag, maybe one of those solutions will work for you too.

PS: If you are having issues, post which server you are playing on and any other possibly relevant information.

Fact is I have a better connection to Moscow on other games than to the Eso server and I don't live far away from it either. Usually a 10 - 13ms is standard for me to other SERVERS that are located in
Frankfurt a. M.
Additionally even the said 50 ping feels sluggish on inputs and server responses.
Won't even start on Cyro performance....

For this game, 50ms is probably top percentile of latency. I have 69-82 most days, and most of my guildmates say that’s great compared to theirs. Friends in Australia and New Zealand routinely have 300+.

I’m not sure if the minimum is due to scrubbing through Akamai, although that’s been mentioned as a possibility on the forums before.

There is always a certain ping when connected online, a ping of 50 isn't that bad honestly. A ping between 0-100 is to be expected/normal for online games. For a game as large as ESO, a ping of 50 is very good(my normal ping before the FPS fix, was always 67). Which is why I also feel weaving should not be part of the game, but that is a whole other discussion. The smooth as butter referred to the servers themselves, as they are running great. My ping to the server and how the ESO-servers themselves are running, are two completely different things.
For troubleshooting the issues some players have, this makes for a clear distinction. As one can't solve a problem when one can't locate the problem. Blaming the servers is easy, but will not solve the issues if the issues are on the player's end.

In town I sometimes see players move as if they are teleporting, which means their connection to the server is flawed. Because if it were the servers themselves, everyone would move like that. These will also be the players who are going to be disconnected on almost everything they do, because when they start doing something, the server will notice they are out of sync. And therefor will kick them, so they will sync up again. An issue for which the server is often blamed, but this is much more likely to be an ISP or local issue.

So unless the server is down or many players are experiencing that specfic issue(like in Cyrodiil), you are going to have to assume the issue is on your end. Which I always do for myself too. If you are having issues in overland, the issue being on your end is the most likely scenario. These players will have to start troubleshooting.

For this reason, I always try to help troubleshoot issues. As I know how annoying having an issue with something can be.

PS: I dont play in Cyrodiil, besides events.
PPS: Post as much relevant information when discussing your issue(s), this makes it easier for other players to help you out.

Bandwidth and Latency are behaving inverse to one another.
If you want a better ping, say goodbye to streaming.
There are a few tricks to improve latency in your modem/FritzBox OS, etc.
It can easily be googled how to improve latency. It is specific to your system/technology, though.

Reason for lag is equal parts network and servers.
Servers are being worked on. Network is largely dependent on your own provider.

Ah, and I had no problem last week. Unless my wife streams Netflix, I have between 50ms and 83ms. 😅

ZOS has repeatedly acknowledged that much of the many issues with lag is in fact server side on their end. That's why they committed to doing server upgrades and a partial base code rewrite. We'll see how effective the measures ZOS may or may not implement turn out to be as time passes. Unfortunately we haven't seen many improvements in this regard in previous years after many similar commitments were made by ZOS.

you shouldn't mix things up here, of course you have lag just like everyone else, but you're playing a content where it's not noticeable. go to cyrodiil prime time, you'll have lag there just like everyone else. the fact that you don't encounter lag in housing and overland quests isn't very meaningful.

You can allocate bandwidth for clients, even specific processes so streaming is no issue as you can ensure that your game gets all the attention you want.

you shouldn't mix things up here, of course you have lag just like everyone else, but you're playing a content where it's not noticeable. go to cyrodiil prime time, you'll have lag there just like everyone else. the fact that you don't encounter lag in housing and overland quests isn't very meaningful.

I've been to Cyrodiil during prime time. I've been going there completing things on all my characters recently and I've not noticed any lag. Also, Cyrodiil is one zone as opposed to the rest of the world where most players spend a lot of their time.

I am not saying that none of the lag players are experiencing isn't server side but I think a lot of it is due to other factors.

I don't know how that happens but that is why I think there has to be something else contributing to the lag.

I play PCNA and am playing from the West Coast.
