Abilty to view items worn by character during crafting.

Hey all,

Title more or less says it all - but here I go!

(I did a quick forum search and did not see this specific issue covered - I may have missed threads in my haste though!)

Whilst crafting, to see what my chacter is wearing (armour and weapons), I have to leave the crafting and view inventory in order to see what the character is actually wearing. I have either not figured out how to view character worn equipment whilst crafteing by any other method or such other method does not exist!

Though switching from crafting to inventory to see my character worn equipment is not really a big problem, I think it would be better for crafters to be able to see the character worn equipment in some way.

I currently use a printed chart that I alter by eraser and pencil to track my character worn items because of not being able to see character worn items whilst crafting and this is no real hardship. However, I have a question and some suggestions;

Question;

Is there a way to see what your character is wearing whilst crafting without having to switch back and forth between crafting and information screens (such as inventory)?

Suggestions;
  • Add to crafting interface so that when the crafter uses 'mouse over' on an item to be crafted it shows the comparison with worn item (like it does in inventory).
  • Show worn items in its own area so the crafter can easily 'mouse over' a worn item to see its stats.

I know this may have been covered already but I did not see it in my (albeit quick) browse or search of forums.

I'm sure there will be other opinions about this that suggest leaving crafting as it is and I believe we all have a right to our opinions. I plead that anyone replying to this thread do so with respect for others.

Thanks in advance for attention given to this thread.

    It is a shame that functionality isnt there but there is an addon for it. I think its called equip compare or something similiar.

    I'd also like it if a popup for the armor specs you are wearing would show up to compare the item you want to craft. Just like it does when going through your inventory. I'm going to check out that addon!

    Thanks for the input!

    For me, the facility to check the items as per this discussion should be in the game itself rather than an addon. The use of addons is, to me (again), useful but should not be needed for such a facility as this - a facility that we could reasonably expect to be in game from the start.

    That said, I'm off to look into addons in general and the mentioned one or something similar more specifically.

    Thanks again.

    Edit: I read my post back and realised part of it made no sense! Time to recharge the keyboard!

    I agree here completely.. I don't know how many times I've been crafting and stopped what I was doing to compare my worn equipment.

    try looking at inventory or items worn when your trying to run or in combat, it is impossible and why should it be so difficult to implement as part of the original function.
    I actually end up using paper more in this game especially when crafting and upgrading items, what makes it worst is inventory whilst crafting now also pulls your bank items and then you need to be careful not to deconstruct items you want to save.
    Can't they have a box to say "show bag items only" tab or something????

    it actually shows you a very small picture so if you have in bank all the items for every race you can scroll along , but it is a small picture

    I would love access to my INV while crafting...I always find myself running up to the crafting station, hitting "E" then "oh crap what was that stat I need to have?" or " what piece did I need to make?"

    It is pretty much standard operating procedure now for me to hit "E" then "ESC" then "I" then "ESC" then "E" again lol.

    I find my self jotting down stats on paper prior to jumping into the crafting station...not saying that it is horrible but it is a clear indicator that a crucial piece of the UI is missing.

    Thanks for the further input. I hope an admin will see this and comment and / or pass our ideas and concerns to the devs. Either way, admin or dev comment would give us a pointer as to what, if anything, is planned by the devs regards the issues raised.

    Pen and paper is a brilliant scheme for certain games! For computer games, pen and paper tracking is a bit silly.

    I'm a bit concerned about using addons for reasons I need not go into here - it's all about trust though!

    Edit: Because I really must go back to a wired keyboard!

    Ok good ideas but I would like to be able to see what the item will look like before I craft it. When I go to craft an item all I get is the generic icon, when changing race type no way to tell how it will look until after you make it.

    I noticed that too. I can see how an 'item preview', for the item to be crafted, would be great. I have seen such crafting previews in at least one other game.

    Sadly, where some have a memory like a steel trap, my memory is like a steel sieve! I have played so many games over the years. I simply cannot recall the name of the one with the item preview. :blush:
