Why is my character so dumb?

Most recent example would be the story behind Kerbols's Hollow. (trying to make it spoilerfree) Nearly all comments my char was able to say would have been no-goes considering what the char has already learend by that time. Its like there where only the worst possible on purpose to click. Stuff I would not have let my char said at all because for exactly all the bad stuff that happend including the great choice between pestilence & cholera at the end because of being forced to either play a dumb char or to ignore the quest.

I really like the quests overall in ESO. Great diversity unlike in so many other mmos. But it just happes quite often that a char is forced to say/do very stupid stuff of the "its obvious to not do/say that" kind just to get the story in a specific direction.

    Reminds me of old Fallout 1 in which if your character indeed was to dumb (ie not enough points spend in intelligence / speech or topic related skill) and several choices just not being offered to click as a result you could, in some cases, use the ingame text parser using keywords solve some quests or just get additional information in general.

    But that might be a bit too far fetched for ESO or modern games in general. One or two additional choices to pick from in the few culprit dialouges to not hate my own char for messing up the obvious would be nice enough ;)

    Totally agree.
    Especially annoying it is when my Dunmer Sorcerer is
    A. Totally ignorant about anything involving Dunmer
    B. Completely clueless about anything involving magic (love the "Hammer to the Crystal" solution to ancient magical doohickeys though).

    Stories are well written, quests are interesting, but they player dialogue options are between mediocre and horrible to the most part (lot of the "Intimidate" and "Persuade" options are great though).

    Absolutely, also I've noticed that with one or both of those options available it kind of dictates what type of reward you walk away with. Lets say If I'm looking for heavy armor I'll go with the intimidate; medium and light I'll choose the persuade response.

    Any situation that involves talking to "deceptive" NPCs seems to guarantee terrible dialogue, both because they're painfully obvious about it and because the PC is unable to actually call anyone out over it (even though they're being painfully obvious about it).

    And Kerbol's Hollow is particularly odd if your character actually has the condition in question...

    Well, how can they move the story along if the character was as intelligent as the player?

    I mean, after all, you're in a profession that usually involves you getting burned, stabbed, smashed by hammers, jolted, frozen, poisoned...

    How smart is that?

    When you are immortal, all your wounds heal, you feel practically no pain...
    And are given access to, and gratitude of, the leaders of all the factions.
    Very smart.

    I think that ZOS could certainly have incorporated something more, versatile, when it comes to the dialogue. I often find myself lazily skipping through the conversations between my toon and NPC's because of the nature of those conversations becoming more and more pointless. I tend to imagine my own story into the game as I play. To be honest I am completely fine with the way that it is now. So no criticism, but I certainly wouldn't disagree with a more in-depth conversation with a NPC.
