Friendly Advice/Warning regarding leveling

I have not really seen a thread (maybe I overlooked) about leveling and progression. Basically the best way to level is to do quests that are close to your level (yellow) and as many as possible. The leveling is setup so that you cannot grab the cuirass/robe tails of your lvl++ friend and power level.

If you complete lvl 30 quest/dungeon at lvl 20 you get a significantly reduced exp and apparently forever lose that exp.

If you leave Glenumbra (into Stormhaven specifically) with less than 93 quests (what I personally had) completed then you missed some, though cannot put into terms of too fast too slow. Try to complete requests before they go stale (turn green) and do not complete if Orange. We did an experiment with a guild mate at 20 in an area of 30, we got ~1000 exp for complete, he got ~100. Another guild mate in a hurry had to grind out 48 and 49 (before they let non-vets into vet overworld).

The reason I mention it as some do not seem to get it. Probably too late since they decided to let non-vets into vet ow (i believe is one of the worst decisions made thus far) because the event that allows the transition could probably be done at lvl 45.

I posted a guide on this very subject here
You're absolutely right! One level either way is my rule of thumb.

I am taking my forth class through, and what I do now do is follow all the normal questlines that lead you around the zone. Then I bring up a skyshard map on my second screen and go find every skyshard. While doing that I get to hit all the dungeons and also find lots of chests. I also stumble on most all the side quests I missed.

Obviously some people do not want to use a spoiler like a skyshard location map, but prefer to explore using the achievement hints list to find them. That works fine too.

Either way, I have found that doing the above puts me pretty much right on the level to move to the next zone, gives me plenty of skillpoints, and the dungeon achievements.

@Yankee That sounds like a good strategy. I use the skyshard map as well.

My strategy is that as soon as I enter a new area I basically do a spiral from the center of the city, i pickup every quest until i have 1 or 2 quest slots left (though i have filled my quest tracker up more than once and still do).

I do not literally do a spiral, but that is what is seems to come out as, what i am actually doing is going into every house grabbing skill/lore books, motifs, recipes, provisions, and mats, while looking for NPCs and location/information books (reveal dungeon/delve/camp...). Then i do as you do and follow out each quest making extra effort to replace any that I complete. I also take my time to grab mats, which lead to finding other things, such as anchors, world bosses, more quests...

I was not even close to first in the guild getting to coldharbour, but I was first by a comfortable margin to 50/V1 (after only half the coldharbour quests) and first to vet ow, with a full set of blue 50 and v1 armor/weapons.
