Hmmm so you console players also get this?

ZOS blamed the add-ons that we use on PC as being the main problem.

Exactly so if the key word is "the main" but yet console players are suffering this then it's not "the main" reason is it?

Well gee...if they'd just add decent UI options into the game, we wouldn't need all those pesky addons, now would we?

To be honest, we get a few pop ups while playing from the console UI. It seems the console UI is nothing more than a big add-on. Again, this is what seems to be the case but maybe not accurate.

Whatever it is tho, we see quite a few error boxes from time to time that look eerily similar to the pop-up boxes I had on PC during closed beta and PC launch. If it's not an add-on for console UI changes then I hope we get a confirmed response and some changes to remove this particular issue

Dont worry its on PS4 too.

I always know when I'm going to get this error. Horrendous lag, cant move then disconnect from server with message rate limit error.

i thought it was because when i lagged i tried to keep seeing if i could use my abilities and by the time the connection to the server calmed down i had a que of too many abilities lined up and the server didn't know how to process it so just kicked me to save itself the problem of digesting that, and the "message rate limit" error was just laziness on the error notifications.

lets hope they find a resolution soon.

It's typically caused by one of these things:
    • Addons sending messages too rapidly (some addons can do this, but most don't)
    • Messages queuing up when you're lagging and then all being sent in a burst
    • Apparently non-standard controllers for consoles can do this too (probably a similar issue to how some addons do it)

Since OP has created multiple threads ALL IN CAPS about this, and is evidently on Xbox, I suspect he's probably using a non-standard controller, but who knows, maybe not.

Thanks for the details. I get the error each week but not everyday however all my devices and accessories are Xbox branded so I'd say the nonstandard controller isn't a related cause

For you, no it wouldn't be. It's probably lag in your case (or possibly something else that is a less common cause). For OP who says it happens every 15 minutes, I strongly suspect a non-standard controller. Again though, maybe not. It's just the cause that seems the most likely.

I remember reporting this a very long time ago and got a developer response to my ticket. At the time, and probably still is the case, it was explained to me that every single action performed in the game is a "command line" and that for some reason beyond the comprehension of logic, chat and the unseen "console" of ESO that processes these commands are not properly separated. So, you press a key on your keyboard, it's a text based command being sent. You type a message, it's a text based command being sent. And if you spam, for example the "E" key, or your console equivalent, the game automatically thinks you're spamming the chat box and gives you that generic "message rate limit" error.

It's lag causing it. Either from your end(internet service provider) or from the server.

    Ok let's keep going tho.

What else could it be. I'm running an Xbox OS ahead of most so I deal with bugs most never get but let's say that's not related....what else do you suspect?

I keep looking at my PC version and seeing what's diff in the UI and I'm almost convinced that some parts are actually add-ons for console to a base UI.

For example if I open the menu and go to the bank/guild bank/guild store/guild trader and interact too fast I'll get an error.

Another that happened recently was while crafting.

[ZO_GamepadSmithingTopLevelCreationResultTooltipContainerTipScrollScrollChildTooltipContentArrowbar1] already has two anchors, adding another will have no effect.

That's the actual error which is odd because it's an UI error dealing with the controller seemingly that now is replacing the arrow that's normally show on PC when crafting. There isn't a cursor but the error seems to suggest the UI was changed or an add-on is bugged that overwrites this.

    The bank error is:

    stack traceback
    [C]: in function 'assert'

Thanks to the devs of this game! I just used a cold fire ballista for 3 seconds then I got kicked off the server due to message rate limit. I then logged back on just to see my cold fire ballista was on fire and broken! Thanks very much for not even trying to fix this bug.
  • WwG_SkuLLz
I meant to say I logged in dead and my ballista was on fire and broken. Within 5 seconds of logging back on, My game crashed. Man, if Microsoft let me return a digitally downloaded game, I would return this game faster then you guys decided to cut the budget down on this game.
  • WwG_SkuLLz
Just got kicked off again :) If I had a dollar every time I got booted from the server, Ide be a millionaire.

This.. I am pretty confident its storing your skills in a command buffer waiting for the server to respond.
The server doesn't respond for ages and when it does your client sends it a shed load of commands that wasnt actioned, that have been building up in the buffer.
To which the server responds....bugger off !
Next time you get lag freeze.....spam the skill keys and wait for the incoming server attitude ;)
Hence ZOS issue in prime time with burst traffic.
