No One Is Talking About Destruction Staffs?

Seems like there is actually reasons to use Frost and Lightening Staffs now. Less Fire staff damage, Frost gives you a damage shield, Lightening hits alot of targets now for alot more damage. i have a feeling we are going to see alot of Lightening Staff mages in keep defense now and Frost staffs in open Field.

I've been using a lightning staff for a while on my Sorc, good to see it got some attention. Also nice for doing PvE when coupled with Surge.

For pve atleast it still will be more beneficial to use fire staff for single target dps due to the reason that you can't med weave with the other staffs. Also wouldn't fire be better for pvp due to so many vamps?

I'm currently (see sig) running a NB caster build using S&B + Resto Staff, but am now very intrigued by the idea of Frost Staff replacing S&B for a few reasons...
    1. The HP shield looks pretty sexy. Even if it will only be 4% in PvP, it's a "free" 4% max hp shield while regaining some magicka from the power attack itself.
    2. The power attacks can be fully charged from Stealth/Shadow Cloak. Resto/Lightning Staff can't be used in this way.
    3. Block nerfs make S&B relatively less attractive.
    4. Running 2 ranged weapons will mesh with the newly buffed Merciless Resolve.
    5. Frost staff is aesthetically pleasing, especially as a NB Vampire.

A sense a new build coming together...

You ppl talking about frost staff forget one thing: the dmg shield overflow dmg bug.

Any hit on a dmg shield that would go through the shield, applies the remainder of the dmg on your health w/ zero armor/spell resist mitigation taken into account.

With the small dmg shield (only 800 in Cyrodiil if you have 20k HP), you're just setting yourself up to take a huge unmitigated hit to your health bar.

I am happy, they did so many changes to destruction staves.

Now all staves are more equal and each staff is a good choice. Fire still deals more damage, but not as much as it did before. The frost damage shield will be very beneficial in pvp and the change to shock clench is very interesting.

I currently run Frost staff and S/B on my NB with Swallow Soul as my main attack. In S/B stance I will Cloak and side strife away to get range while i Charge up my Frost heavy attack and it release at the same time cloak ends. This hits very hard, does a 40% snare and recharges a bunch of magika for me. Once the target gets close i go back to S/B for defence and then repeat with cloak. Now after the patch i will have the damage shield too. it did say 8% btw.

Shields are nerfed by 50% in PvP, is why I said 4%. You're right in that the base effect is 8%

Yah... @ZOS_GinaBruno, any word form the combat team about this? With this change i'll be looking forward to using my frost staff, but if it means setting myself up for suicide then this change can easily be taken as a nerf.

I wonder if flame touch/clench conveys CC immunity for a puny knockback (ala jabs). Shame if it becomes unusable for PvP.

Yes, a very good question @ZOS_GinaBruno could you please bring this up to them? <3

The functionality of Destructive Clench for the Fire staff is RUINED. Goodbye Wizard Golf. Fun while it lasted. Why is it that EVERY update makes the players re-adapt their skillbars instead of adding meaningful content?

Flame staff was always too powerful compared to the other 2. this was a needed change so that there would actually be a choice between the 3 types. Flame staff got high dot in its place so it just has more of a damage focus now on single targets

When using Light Armor, there is nothing more important than CC; particularly when solo or in a small group. This changes the utility of the Fire Staff so much that I will switch to Shock for the Stun. In conjunction with double resistance (9 to 18%) for enemies, 35% lower armor and spell resistance for players (potentially if using Armored or Nirnhoned traits), lower set piece weapon and spell damage (even with the negligible gain for enchanting glyphs), CC will be more important than ever for survival. Not to mention the change to Dark Exchange/Deal from channeling to one-hit each cast. Will have to personally re-adapt quite a bit of the skillbar. And pets are worse too. Yikes.
