I for one would like some clarification of who is stearing the ship and a road map of where it's going.

I pre-purchased the imperial edition and my sub has never lapsed. I've even purchased extra Crowns more out of support for the game, than any need. I've understood from the beginning that the successful launch of console was key to the game's long term health and success and weathered the content drought with everyone else.

Nowadays a game is more than pixels, it's the relationship between the senior team and it's player base and a certain level of transparency is necessary for continued loyalty.

I think it's well past time for a new "The Road Ahead" article.

I agree with the overall sentiment :). It's a business transaction, but there's more to it than that for a hobby like playing an MMORPG extensively. I have a hunch we'll be hearing something next week regarding the Imperial City and overall battle plan, but that is purely speculation on my part.

That's the problem with this new wave of B2P/F2P MMOs and cash stores. They aren't built for longevity, or community, or any of the things that I enjoyed about MMOs. Now they are all about getting people hooked for a few months, spending some money in the cash store, and then moving on. There's nothing to keep people around, because most of the game is just a hollow shell based around the cash shop.

    There's new content?

Yup, coming in 2017 the IC, 2020, Clockwork City and 2030 Vvardenfell. It's gonna be legen... dary

LOL - Not 100% convinced if this would be a good thing :D

But they WOULD stop and put their flaming pitchforks down to buy the bags, enhanced character creation options, extra chatacter slots, offspring slots, torches, mount buffs, mount costumes, etc... that I would push to get into the crown store.... then they'd pick their flaming pitchforks up and continue pursuit.

I suspect Matt should either be asking for a raise or posting on Monster right about now.

I am not sure what type of person Firor is, whether he is a nomad moving from one challenge to another, or whether he is looking for a place that he can nest in for a good long while. I would not be surprised if he is a nomad and is already looking for a new challenge.
I think I'd have a Plan B in my pocket, just in case, especially for the higher tier positions.

    @Elijah_Crow , what a delightfully accurate analogy, I think.

Steering a ship down the road ahead...

I think that probably sums it up (even if unintentionally!)

Saying that Paul Sage and Nick Koncle left Zenimax because ESO is a sinking ship sound shortsighted to me.

You dont know what the reason was, there are more things to take in consideration than just the status of the game. I can understand if someone changes jobs because he wants to take a different direction in his career for example.

So everyone complains about not getting new content and then when two main pieces leave and they complain because they left?

Is this not a GOOD thing? Could things be going down the drain? Sure.... but that is more short-sited with all the money to be made on the consoles.

Companies work on the premise of invest $X and get $X+Y%, there is a lot of money that can be made with consoles as we move forward. Put all new content on DLC and start the release cycle in November in time for the Christmas lists to come out.

But couldn't they end up losing money if a lot of console players get refunds for the game? Or when GameSpot are telling customers game is not ready and to look for something else? Also on consoles one thing I have learned word of month moves mountains good and bad!

I don't think so either. They are very, very good at concepts, but when it comes to actually implementing them they either have no idea how, or realize how overwhelming it would be.

All of that talk about spellcrafting, Justice PvP, removing VR ranks.... I don't plan on seeing any of that.

We can confirm that Paul left ZOS after the launch of ESOTU on console. He, along with rest of the team, are very happy with how the game is doing and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. ESOTU continues to be in great hands with Game Director, Matt Firor and new Creative Director, Rich Lambert, overseeing development. Previously, Rich oversaw all content in the game as Lead Content Designer and worked on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. We’re very excited to have him take on the role as Creative Director!
