Just a quick question. So while leveling a templar with the intention of becoming a tank end game , is it viable to tank from the very start of the game? So using sword & board , class heals etc. Will it be viable while solo leveling is my question basically , or will i have to focus on something else then respec to tank end game. Thanks

My advise; reroll a DK tank. :p
(i really think you should consider this)

But, to answer your question; i always lvl my chars as a DD and i put some skills from different skill lines on my bar.
(in this case sword & board skills etc, because you wanna become a tank).

Lvling as a DD is the fastest way.

As a full out tank while leveling, it will work, it will just be slower to kill mobs. Tanking in ESO isn't about how much damage you do, it's about keeping and retaining aggression of the mobs. There are some decent dps spells but the major ones aren't related to tanking.

With two weapon swap bars, set up one for DPS and another for tanking. Split your skills into both areas. If you like melee attacks, go with a duel wield and sword and board setup.

early game, you could tank in cloth as long as you have 1h/shield and block bosses.

at lvl 15, you get the ability to swap weapons. i would recommend you solo level with 1h/shield but use templar spells like biting jabs (or whatever morph), reflective light etc. to help kill mobs faster. swapping to maybe a 2h if you need some extra damage or run out of magicka.

one of the fastest ways i leveled was just tanking through dungeons up to vet.

note that even though you are building yourself to be a tank, you can just as easily heal with the right gear (use cloth and resto staff to augment your class heals).

I can only see using the sword and shield now as a good thing, rather than rushing through the game you will be a little slower but you will also be getting experience of your ultimate aim and getting first hand experience of what each skill does and how it works for you.
