If dots can't get past a damage shield

Then damage shields shouldn't absorb them.

I'm just thinking the dots that shields prevent (for instance a bleed) should still tick on a target that's shielded. It makes sense to me going by the same logic that the shield prevents the application of the dot, since it's the "shield" getting hit. If you're bleeding or poisoned and put a shield over you, you're still bleeding or poisoned.

Just a thought.

    Very very very bad idea.

I don't see a single reason to baf shields, they are way too strong atm

    Um...what?

They currently prevent dots on the pts, at least weapon dots AFAIK.

Well - the way you edited you topic makes completly different statment. At some point i would agree with you and i see the logic behind it, a change such that would make shield much weaker and maybe will bring them to balance. One think i afraid of - is that if they will implement something like that shields will be completly usless against sige damage with dot efect like Fire balistas and fire trebushets - that would heard shield users a lot

I figured I would make it more clear, since it seems it wasn't, lol.

Editing OP again since some people think it's "funny"

How can you bleed a damage shield in the first place?
Also if you are dotted and then put a shield up, the dot will eat away at the shield. Or at least shock torrent does from the mage guards.
But i do like the idea of a dot, once applied ignoring shields, it can easily be purged off.

How can a magical barrier stop a physical attack? It really boils down to the person who came up with the concept.

Whether a shield bleeds or not, the idea behind a shield is to mitigate damage, however it's a slippery slope when you start trying to decide what can or can't effect the shield.

Personally, I think shields are needed. However, I also believe they should tick down from every source of damage. They shouldn't magically (Pun intended) be immune to say..a dot tick from any source, Stamina or Magicka. They are there to help mitigate damage, not render some moot, while absorbing others.

With that said, there could be a couple of ways to do it.

Dot's don't tick the shield, rather the caster behind it. (Not Ideal)

Dots tick the shield. Damage is damage, period. (The most obvious solution)

Alas, this is probably something they are not even considering to look at in even the most remote future. They have their hands full atm.

    Here since Beta.

Characters: All of them, both Stamina and Magicka.

Yeah that would be acceptable also, a shield just simply being a damage absorbing shield.

    but....

They went and made shields have extra benefits like preventing certain dots from being applied. If someone uses those abilities they become worthless against a shield since most of the damage from the ability is in dot form.

Yeah, they do have their hands full though...
