[Poll] Switch armorstyle into all styles? (lootet items)

I found my characters dressed up in very motley armor because I obviously wanted to use the items I found questing/looting. This lead to wearing Bosmer cuirass with Orc helmet and Khajiti shield etc. (you get the point) and by that, looking rather ragged and stupid than heroic.

In the imperial edition there is this feature "switch style to imperial" in the context menu of most armor pieces and at the beginning I used it extensively. Sadly this leads to all characters looking rather equaly, plus I don't want all my chars to run around as imperials.
I'd like to see this feature for all racial styles. I can think of several ways it could be implemented. For example armor crafting gets a new feature "change style" for found armor - just like already implemented when crafting new armor. Or you just need the appropriate style material in your inventory.

So what are your thoughts on this?

If the style of armor means that much to you, take the time to level your crafting and create whatever style of armor you want, or find someone that can craft it for you. Letting everyone switch armor style to whatever they want all the time defeats the purpose of crafting in specific styles.

    the "no" option isn't fair.

I voted no because I don't like this idea for a feature. But I also don't like the "motley" look.

There should be a "No, people should level their crafting or go to a crafter" option.
The moment you call someone stupid, or try to display your opinion as "fact", you lose all credibility.

Well, crafting is nice (and I am leveling it) - but obviously I would like to wear the stuff I get as quest rewards and loot too. Following your "just craft it" logic we could completely erase quest rewards and loot from the game, no!?

Yeap , i support this idea OP , i have no patience to craft myself atm , im lvling and see not point to it. (not to say my crafts are not lvling , i just break stuff down and they go up)

So having this would make my chars look better , with that said , i dont really care that much , i pay more attention to my addons than to how my char looks.

Well, as a crafter, I'm wholly comfortable with PvE armor/weapon loot rewards being erased from the game. It's an absolutely horrible idea, and I hope the devs never even consider such a thing, but I wouldn't complain. I could care less about PvE looted gear. Unlike a lot of other posters here, at least I'm able to admit when something's a bad idea, even when I like it.

As for your logic, are you implying that (since dropped loot will probably be better than crafted loot) that we erase crafting from the game?

That's a rhetorical question; Simply making the point that your example is a bit extreme. In most of the MMOs I've seen, when people are moving from one tier to the next in raiding, their armor most often looks a bit haphazard and messy. But those people inherently care more about the stats than the looks.

I am making the same mistakes over and over again when I post these comments; I (mistakenly) assume people will use a little basic common sense when reading (and replying) to my comments.

Normally, at this point, I would try to clarify my comment with an exacting amount of detail, covering each and every pedantic counter-argument that could possibly be posed, so that there would be no confusion as to the point I was originally trying to make.

    Unfortunately:
    1) People who respond would most likely "quote" me out of context, fail to understand the big picture, and use either opinions or flat-out insults to undermine my statements

    2) It's late, and I feel like playing (and enjoying) the game instead of attempting to argue with anyone at this hour. I'm sure I'll come back here and chime in with more detail tomorrow or the next day. Either that, or I'll get bored with the topic as a whole, and ignore it.
The moment you call someone stupid, or try to display your opinion as "fact", you lose all credibility.

I went yes, though I wouldn't implement it as above. Id rather just have a cosmetic option for all armour and weapon slots, then I can craft myself a set and if something drops I want to wear for the stats, I can move the crafted piece into the cosmetic slot and still display my matching set.

May not be a great idea to implement in a game like this, but it can work very well in a game which is designed this way from the start. Personally I would love to see another good MMO where everything is crafted and there are no world drops.

As it stands, I don't use most dropped gear in this game at the moment, I don't really need it for the stats, and I would rather have a matching set of armour :)

Nope, if you wear armor that you built piecemeal from the remains of the things you've killed, you should look like something out of Mad Max. If you want a cohesive look, craft it yourself or pay someone else to.

Though I do want more control in the appearance, color, etc. of crafted items.

While I am a big fan of vanity and customization in games, the way presented above is not the way to do it. A simple 'convert to x' would make motif books absolutely useless and probably annoy a large portion of crafters trying to collect those sets. However, a better way could be to allow a 'Reconstruct Style' option within the crafting menus, which would still require the knowledge of motif books and the correct type of item to do so (aldamite, nickel, flint etc). And should be available early on crafting ie. Not requiring skill points. And racial style would depend upon the item level so you arent stuck with just the first styles.
Still may not be perfect but would certainly give everyone the option to change their gear without making part of the game useless imo. Would also not force anyone to set points in crafting to change the styles on dropped gear.

^ What this guy said. Also, I actually do like the haphazard look. It reminds me that all of us are basically escapees of Nirn's version of Hell and we have to cobble together whatever we can from the environment to survive the harsh world that is Tamriel. It also creates a unique look to each and every player on the field. The only thing I kind of wish was part of the craft system was to be able to make dyes so we can color our armor like in Final Fantasy XIV. Again, for variety.

Until we can craft cloth jerkins, YES, I want to be able to change the style of dropped items.
In the rare occasions when I drop a cloth jerkin I would like to pick the style.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

What I'd like is the ability for crafters to change an item into a different style, it costs resources to do, but we can do it. How my character looks is always a big issue for me in MMOs, dunno why it just bugs me if they look like a rainbow.

It wouldn't hurt to allow us to keep an item style as well, the mid level Imperial chest and shoulders looked great mixed with wood elf feet, legs and arms. The latter imperial stuff just looked naff though, I really didn't like it.

I voted no because some pieces of equipment look better in one style, but a different piece of equipment looks better in a different style so mottled looks don't bother me at all. Some pieces of equipment don't look good in any of the styles -- it's all the player's opinion. However, I would like to see different offensive/defensive statistics on different styles of equipment.

This is why you level crafting, and make your own armor :open_mouth:

its just too bad that some set items are kinda much better than crafted set items... something they need to set out to change fast.

    I do level my crafting.

Every race should be able to convert to their race.

Crafters should be able to convert to any race they have motifs for if their crafting is high enough. Maybe tack it onto a skill point ability.

I don't think the imp edition should have had that feature either. The items that drop in the world or are gotten from quests need to stay just how they look and remain unchangeable.

A dye system would be nice however.

Nah , im an imperial edt owner , my gear looks like the imperial gear :P always and i dont craft anything , granted , all my many chars use the "same" gear it seems , but like i said above , it does not bother me hehe.

There is no way im paying another player to craft anything for me , so easy to lvl it myself without even crafting anything anyway.

I mentioned this to my guild, I would like to be able to change to any style I currently own, but a lot of people disagree and I respect that opinion and do not expect ZOS to cater specifically to my wants/needs.
