We need a Auction house

derek.steven.campbell.jobsub17_ESO
We need an auction house for selling our wares. Guild store was clearly not a well thought out idea fellas. Many players chose not to belong to guilds, it is hard to find a guild of like minded individuals when your an older player. Your player base has a lot of immature players of which I have no desire to communicate with, but I would like to be able to sell them my wares..... you have left no avenue for sales for a player who just wants to contribute to the game and enjoy it without GUILD affiliations. Oh my bad you can be an ignorant clod and spam the chat channel with "WTS my stuff ...." making it even harder to get your message accross due to the limitless gold spammers you have yet to get under control. Please give us a non guild based auction system.

Oh look another Auction House thread. You know there is a Search function on this forum and a plethora of auction house related threads that already exist that you could have easily contributed to right?

To be honest, I think this is such a significant issue there can't be enough threads about it. In fact, I would prefer the forums be filled with them every day on every minute and have them being read aloud to the developers constantly during their waking existence.

The economy on this game is awful. I can hardly sell anything. I can't never find anything I need. It's such a hassle that I usually just end up selling things to a NPC vendor and try to content myself with crafting whites for myself. And though I can't really blame people for doing it - since this game nearly forces you to if you want to have any kind of economic activity - the constant trade spam is a nuisance.

This is a shame also. Because I really love this game and would be enjoying it so much more if I could actually participate in an economy that works so I could progress my character in style.

I've harped on this a lot myself. I know. But it can't really be said enough. Because if anything is going to drag this game down, it's this issue IMHO.

No. You just want to wreck the game economy by allowing gold sellers to hyper inflate the market.

In my opinion, the issue is that so many people are coming from games with Auction Houses that it is all they know and rather than adapt to the game that exists in it's current iteration they impotently pound their fists on the table and post on the forum about wanting an Auction House.

Figure out a way to use the existing mechanic. I see a lot of threads of people not having bag space. If they were putting their stuff on the guild stores instead of hoarding it indefinitely, there would be more variety in the items available. I think a search function would be an excellent step forward but this is not "just another MMO" and therefore the absence of an Auction House is just fine by me.

Seems to me that you can only sell to your guild mates... that sounds pretty game economy breaking to me. Why the hell would I want my wares only to sell to my guild...? that is freakin *** actually. Clearly they didn't think this part through, remember though this is their first MMO... so you cannot expect them to think like a MMO developer would.

There are AH guilds out there and you can have 5 guilds. So if all you care about selling, you can sell to 2495 others if you joined 5 trading guilds.

It's wrecked because I can never or rarely ever find what I need to buy. And it's such a hassle trying to sell stuff that I just vendor stuff now. So what good is an economy where I can't buy or sell in?

To answer that question, it isn't any good.

Trade chat economies are awful. They are ineffective and encourage spam. And this idea of guild stores where the economy is split up into hundreds if not thousands of different exclusive watered-down auction houses is going to leave far too many people out. It's just a bad system, and isn't working for a lot of us.

The only people who are going to like this system are people who are lucky enough to belong to a guild that actually sells and buys what they need... or people who do not really want to participate in the economy to begin with.

The existence of an non-guild Auction House does NOT change any of these facts. If you are in a guild without a guild store, join as many as 4 others that DO have a guild store. The issue is not the absence of an Auction House. The issue is your inability to adapt to THIS economy in THIS game. The developers can not fix your lack of adaptability.

Listen to yourself... would you want to keep track of sales on 5 different guild sites..... haven to split your wares among them... Haven to deal with being apart of 5 different guilds....my god the life drain that would be. I have a job and a life I do not have time to waste organizing that kind of info. I bought the game to play a game not to work at spread sheets financial management portfolio. There was no sane reason to make players do this. I understand people might wanna play all day and have no life outside of the game but others do like myself. I like many others do not have the time required to do what you suggest. Think outside your own box

@Ragnar_Lodbrok That's a crap solution to the problem. Why should I go out of my way wasting my time joining 5 trade guilds to try and buy or sell items? Those are all guild slots I should be using for tackling PvE or PvP content, or just to group up with friends.

So you're basically saying that if I want to best chance at having access to the largest number of people in order to maximize availability of materials and my capability to sell to the largest number of buyers, I have to sacrifice my ability to be in an organized guild for other game activities? Not only that, but instead of having one simple interface that I can use to access these markets, I also have to waste my time dealing with the clunky guild store interface and inability to search for items in order to do a quick price comparison so I can decide whether something is being sold for a fair market value or not?

The fact remains that this game has terrible economic mechanics at the moment and it's something that really needs to be addressed. Fragmented guild stores with highly limited potential customers and spamming on zone chat is NOT an economy.

The existence of a public auction house would change all of these facts. Which is exactly why games I play that have them I do not have these kind of issues. And I have joined many different guilds that have stores. I haven't been impressed. I have tried to adapt.

The problem here is not mine and others inability to adapt. The problem here is a poorly thought out and implemented economic system.

And how are we suppose to work within this system?

Spend all our time jumping from guild to guild every day in hopes one of them is selling the materials we are looking for?

Or spend all day on chat advertising WTB or WTS comments?

It's not about being entitled. It's about trying to work within a system that is seriously flawed and to put it bluntly, just not worth the effort.

I think you meant to say because you refuse to learn to use the tools available to you. Or that you refuse to socialize in an MMO. The lack of a Global AH is one of the main reasons I tried ESO in the first place. People that are adjusting are socializing with others. What a concept! Socialization in a massively multiplayer game.

People have to communicate, they have to learn the economy, have to be aware of current sell prices...rather than just sorting by lowest price & selling for 1 gold cheaper. People actually know who is making the gear they wear, and god forbid, might even become friends and/or Guildmates. Act like a tool in zone chat & then expect me to buy from you? Not in ESO. Name your toon Waxoff & try to sell me a racial motif...I'll pass.

I was aware, but decided to give guild stores a chance. So far I haven't liked the system. They are basically like weak auction houses I have to filter from my chat. Would be far better just to have a public auction house.

And just because I don't care for this game's economy doesn't mean I hate the game. I love many aspects of this game. But I would love it a lot more if it had an economy I could effectively participate in. But I don't regret my purchase. Though if they don't do something to improve the game's economy it will become a issue for me.

All of these so called "benefits" you just attributed to the Guild Stores can happen regardless not because of it. I have played many MMO's where I made connections with an Enchanter, a Blacksmith, or whatever profession I needed at the time and they had server wide auction houses.

Oh and you can still sort through the lists on the Guild Store by price and still sell by one gold less, it just takes an outrageously longer amount of time now due to no search function and no categories worth a crap.

Point being is that the current functionality of the Guild Store is next to none because there is virtually no efficiency when it comes to selling items. In addition to limiting the economy by artificially trying to create a "community".

I am fairly certain if you surveyed 100 people who bought items from the Guild Store most of the would not know or care who crafted their items, unless they looked at the tags that is applied to crafted armor or weapons.

I've had zero problems finding what I need. I've enjoyed bartering for what I want. I LOVE that this economy rewards sellers instead of buyers. I'm actually able to sell items for a reasonable amount worthy of the time spent instead of a AH where the items have been undercut hundreds of times.

So basically you expect me to become friends with everyone I buy and sell from while taking the time to learn the current market values of a hundred different guild stores I may or may not have access to.

Well that's not unreasonable at all :)

It's wrecked because I can never or rarely ever find what I need to buy. And it's such a hassle trying to sell stuff that I just vendor stuff now. So what good is an economy where I can't buy or sell in?

So basically you expect me to become friends with everyone I buy and sell from while taking the time to learn the current market values of a hundred different guild stores I may or may not have access to.

Well that's not unreasonable at all :)

It's no more unreasonable than demanding that ZOS change the entire economic mechanic to suit you.

But it's not just me. Many others would like to see a public auction house implemented as well. In fact all of the polls I have seen on these forums would suggest I am in the majority on this issue rather the minority.

So I think what I am advocating is very reasonable. Far more reasonable than expecting everyone to socialize/negotiate over every economic transaction and learn the market values of a hundred different guild stores.

So you're saying that a vast majority of people knew there was no global auction house and still purchased the game and decided on a subscription method. They must have just done that so they could complain about the absence of an auction house. :|

Its not as uncommon as you think that people buy games without fully doing research. Like those who bought this game expecting Skyrim Online with the full functionality of other TES games and being able to go anywhere and not getting what they expected.

I sent in quite a few feedback reports about the economy setup in beta worried about this type of thing happening. I cannot say that I am shocked at this point.

I already said that I knew there was no auction house when I purchased the game, but was willing to give guild stores a chance to see how it played out. And I don't like them.

Forums are a place to ask for changes to the game. And sometimes changes are necessary. No game is ever perfect, and it would be a disservice to ESO just to assume its perfect and not improve upon it.

But this change isnt neccessary. Why is it neccessary to let gold sellers ruin the economy through hyper inflation?

What you are asking for is the abolition of all existing trading guilds. Screw those trading guilds cause you don't like them. Let's completely dismiss the fact that the game is less than 2 weeks old and you are not patient enough to "figure it out".

Those who have figure it out, at least to some extent (i.e. the trading guilds), should be dissolved then because you don't like it.

It's okay to say you don't get it. But you want to force people to play a game with a global auction house, have given no thought to what that would take from a development standpoint, and don't give a damn about what that means for the trading guilds

The argument that these guild stores somehow prevent gold sellers doesn't make any sense to me.

Just go log into the game. I saw dozens of gold spamming today and receive numerous mails from them. So if that is the reason I would call it a bad one, because it has already failed miserably at that.

And it may not be necessary for you. But to me it is, for all the reasons I have already mentioned.

Broadening the economy does not mean hyper inflation. It just means a more stable and active market. And that is a good thing. Though it would make it more difficult for price gougers to rip people off. But the only people who would mind that are the price gougers themselves. And I don't feel as if an economy should cater to those people.
