I'm not sure either. It reads like they're assuming people currently play dunmer because of a previous TES game and (if the rumours are true that the next one will be set in Hammerfall) they'll therefore switch to playing redguard.
But the last game where dunmer was the 'default' choice was Morrowind, which would mean those people are either playing the games out of order or didn't switch for Oblivion and Skyrim, so there's no guarentee they'll switch for the next game either.
(My main character has been a khajiit since Morrowind, because when I started that game I'd lost count of the RPGs I'd played where you could be a human or elf but I'd seen very few with cats and lizards as options so I made an argonian and then a khjiit, ended up prefering the khajiit and stuck with it ever since. ✭✭✭✭✭Actually even distinguishing between Telvanni and Redguards (like it's done in the original post) doesn't make sense. There's no reason a character can't be both Redguard and Telvanni. There was a whole bunch of Redguard members of House Telvanni in TES3 (as well as members of all other races, including an Argonian on Retainer rank - House Telvanni doesn't care for race, only talent).@Syldras | PC | EU

Really? I'm not sure, to be honest. I mean, it would be too absurd to not be able to distinguish between a fantasy race and the real world and to believe that everyone who plays some character type in a game had the same mindset (and weird lack of lore knowledge too, considering House Telvanni is mentioned, who really couldn't care less about race). I don't think people can actually believe something like that, so OP probably meant something else. Maybe OP could elaborate?

It's an odd claim. I've seen many people often pick to play the race that originate from the province you play in. Like dunmer in Morrowind, Imperial in cyrodiil, and nord in Skyrim. But just as many often have their favourite race or character they make in every game, so this thread gets more weird. I for one love making argonians (that water breathing mm-mm), but often end up making characters of various races.

I thought it might have been that both are dark, or something, I dunno. Picking the other melanin-rich option if one is removed. I can't see Bethesda ever making Dunmer not playable, but who knows with them anymore. It would be an epic troll on their part if instead of a mainline game we got the sequel to a crappy spin-off from 1998.PC EU0 -

✭✭I don't think I'll ever play as a redguard...never have either. In oblivion I played as imperial, nord, breton, bosmer. In Skyrim I played as a nord.

✭✭✭✭I’m surprised how many people pick one race and stick to it through multiple games. I usually try to play a different race each play through, and all my ESO characters are different races from each other.
I do wish more NPCs rewarded this play style by noticing more often though. 😝

My mains are always Redguards. But I have many characters of other races.... everything but nord, argonian and orc. I play all of those alts (more or less on a rotating basis), and each girl has a raison d'etre.... otherwise known as "backstory".
