Trapped by changing payment method, er, I think.

I spent some time looking into changing payment method, and the best I've come up with is:
1. Cancel present membership. Current payment method's unused benefits will remain in force and be allowed to expire naturally.
2. Start new membership by indicating a purchase, ESO Plus, or crowns, or something.
3. In the process of installing that new membership, change payment method (the original goal).
4. Now, buy the thing I really wanted (using the new payment method), a 5 legged green salamander horse.

The problem is this, I don't have the money in my checking account just now to buy the new membership, but I DO have the funds for the horse. For whatever reason, ZoS goes to try that new subscription/membership purchase (even though such will not go through to completion) they *appear* to touch my bank account, and my bank says no way, insufficient funds. At least, I think that is what is happening. So, the transaction, experimental though it may be, is declined by ZoS. Now what?

This whole thing is counter-intuitive, but maybe there is something else I should be doing? Thanks for any facts here! Slimm Pickens

I just changed my payment method, its done pretty much the way you said. They did actually charge my card one dollar, I guess as a test.

If you have time left on your sub, why not just cancel it and buy the crowns you need for that 5 legged green salamander horse and then renew the sub when you have the money in your account?

    That should work.

You don't have to wait until you've got ESO+ set up with your new bank account to buy crowns, you can just cancel the renewal on the current subscription and then buy crowns as a one-off payment.

I was a little confused by the OP at first, and I think it's because that's my normal situation. I rarely have ESO+ and when I do I don't want it to renew so I always cancel it and removed the saved bank card as soon as I've confirmed it's gone through. Then if I want to buy crowns at any point I put the information in like I would for any other one-off payment and don't tick the box to save it.

P.S. what's this 5-legged salamander horse? I don't remember seeing anything like that.

Personally, I would never use a checking account as the backing for an ESO Plus subscription. I would use a credit card. I would be afraid of "insufficient funds" and denial when ZOS tries to pull funds to pay for the subscription. That is not going to end well, and it will take days to fix it.

WHat I ended up doing was arranging to buy a 30 day sub rather than a 1 year sub.. the 30 day sub was sufficiently inexpensive to allow ZoS to touch my bank account to see if I had funds (even though such would not be billed for 10 more months). That, in turn, allowed me to change payment method, and that in turn, allowed purchase of the horse. Success...

That said, the horse is.. ah... figurative - the object I really wanted was enough Crowns to buy a Mundus stone for my guild. I thought perhaps the mention of a 5-legged *anything* might spur interest in the whole idea; bit of fun. Sorry.

The Mundus stone idea was for me to buy one, plant it in the garden somewhere, and use it as an example of one way a guild might arrange for a full set of stones. If that doesn't work out, I guess we will all be Thieves.
