Can we PLEASE (pretty please?) have options for head gear and/or hair styles for our companions.

I just got Tanlorin to follow me around the other day, and wouldn't you know it, I show up to a wayshrine and like 4 other players are levelling their Tanlorins. The option for outfits are fine I guess, but it makes them look so generic and identical. Same with Bastian, though maybe not as bad... I notice that ever since I have finally gotten around to levelling my Bastian (my first companion), I see his clone everywhere and it's awful.

Even if I can't see other players' choices I'd still be fine with it I guess... It just destroys immersion on an apocalyptic scale when I see multiple clones all standing next to one another. At least let me feel like their guys are just random mercenaries I can ignore, while mine is special.

IMO this should be relatively easy to accomplish... and you could add a toggle for players the same way we have toggles for pet or companion visibility in cities and such.

One suggestion that is often posted in this forum to get rid of this problem would be introducing helmets for companions:
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/8215586

And this thread might also be of interest, which shows that it's completely possible to display companions differently to other players - as it has actually happened lately, by bug:

There's even an example picture in the thread. I find it interesting.

Your second link is incorrect I think - it's about tanking and the discussion revolves around numbers and min/maxing stuff.

Oh, sorry, looks like I accidentally deleted the last number from the link. This is the correct one:

That link works. And yes, I agree with your comment on that thread too - it seems obvious to me that we should be able to change their appearance or add headgear.

It's a shame that Bethesda/Zenimax seem to have become more corporate and out of touch with their player base... They should know from a long and storied history of modding their games that their fans enjoy player choice and customization, and despise restrictions.

According to ZOS why they haven't made us able to use head styles or put on hat cosmetics on companions, is because, and I paraphrase, they want the companions to be regoniseable as that specific character because they are specific individuals and should not be some generic npc.

However they phrased it the reasoning was one of the most obscure reasonings I've seen in decades as someone who enjoys RPGs and roleplay. Both video games and tabletop. Although this topic also relates to books, movies, any type of media which has characters.

Characters doesn't stop being the character they are just because they put on a bloody helmet, hood or hat. If they were armour they are kinda expected to wear a helmet, to protect their heads, that's what armour is for.

Like according to ZOS so are these two different characters and not an easily recogniseable specific one?

What struck me as hilarious about the logic used to justify the lack of headgear was that, whenever I see someone else doing the companion quest line in a public dungeon, I see a version of Azandar wearing a hood with the other player. This is presumably done to distinguish them from the one following me.

I'd love to know why that Azandar can have a hood, and why he's suddenly hood adverse after the quest line.

It's the same thing when doing any quest when you are followed by a specific npc character. They look like some other more generic npc to others.

I got this screenshot when doing Zerinth-var's quest. Like this is probably a bit too similar looking to Zerinth, but it is different, yet as soon as you and these people completed the quest then poof, all of them were clones.

    Yeah it's stupid.

Everyone else's companion should be wearing a helmet/mask/whatever by default if you ask me. Far more jarring the way it is.

I get people probably prefer the head gear solution, but I would really appreciate hair style: as an Isobel enjoyer I would do anything to be able to change her hair style, and I think it would highly improve uniqueness and immersion.
