I’ve battled LHJ for the gold skull once a day and have not collected the bust yet. Not gonna farm him for it but I’m hoping it drops eventually.

I've done LHJ at least once a day, but still not got the bust 😕 A little frustrating, but I enjoy the mechanics of this fight so happy to keep at it. Just wish the RNG was a little kinder!

Went in solo the last five days, no bust. Today I went in again a second time to help some people and the bust dropped.

This is why so many people are leaving eso. Try to understand your communities better and what they want instead of putting all your focus into effects around a spooky boss. I personally would have appreciated a Lord Hollowjack monster helm outfit style and I'm certain many others would too but we're just the people, that means nothing I guess.

Personally, I like RNG in these simple, cosmetic things that have no impact on the game. :)
Since they have no impact on gameplay, they don't need to be attached to bad RNG when they're available to get for like 2 weeks out of the year.

I didn't even know I got it. Since I don't care about housing, why is this so special to you all? Does it do something?

You don't care about housing, but many people do. And many people collect the trophies and busts. I'd say it's the satisfaction of adding a limited-time item to the collection, but others probably have different explanations.

it took me about 7 kills to get the bust, i just sat around in auridon joining any random group doing hollowjack fights lol

it is kind of interesting that the gold skull can potentially give all of the collectible drops in 1 go (though i would still delete the glenmoril wyrd trove, that is useless beyond belief)

This is the problem with drops, it’s all or nothing. How about better average drops instead?

No one wants to be the guy who never gets the good drops.

There is only one ‘difficulty’ for Hollowjack.
... This is modified based on group size (1-4/5-8/9-12), especially in hunt phase as it creates more lanterns...
... the RNG isn't anywhere near as bad as the Jubilee RNG grind. One guild I'm in, we just formed a 12 person party where one person picked up the HJ daily, triggered Portal, and afterwards anyone who'd looted the bust picked up the daily quest and triggered the next one. Then would drop group after the next round. Rinse-Repeat. Each round at least one of us would get the bust, and often multiple people would get it. At least a couple dozen of us participated, and we all got the bust...

You are both onto something! I had done the hollowjack boss around 10 times per day, and sometimes I saw it drop once every kill, sometimes even two, and many others, I spent a whole day and no bust appeared. So today I tested something.

I ran it about 8-10 times, forming the group and entering with less than 8 players. The bust didn't come up ONCE in those runs.
Then, I ran it three times with 9+ groups. Every single one of those three times, one person got the bust. The last time, we were 12, and two people got the bust (one was me)... So maybe it is indeed associated with difficulty? When you run it in the highest difficulty (9-12 people), you are guaranteed one drop?

I know of course that it is possible to get it when soloing, as one friend got it that way. But I would say that is reserved to people with good luck. My rng and general luck suck, so maybe doing it the way @DenverRalphy described would maximize the possibilities?

Anyways, let me know if other people out there have experienced the same. Could also be true RNG and me finding patterns where there are none...

    Good luck in your search!

To be very clear... I did NOT state that running with a 12 person group increases the chances for a drop a single person to get it to drop. I simply laid out a plan of attack to maximize the opportunities to get the drop by only having one person in the group grabbing the quest. We were giving players more opportunities for a run at it, not increasing their chances. And the example I used just happened to be a 12 man group that kept rotating guildies through.

12 player groups doesn't increase the drop rate. It's just more likely that somebody in a 12 person group will see a drop than a 4 man group simply due to how many players have a chance at getting it.

ESO has never had satisfyingly fair RNG; It is either nearly guaranteed, or nigh-improbable with little you can do to manipulate it.

Well, the RNG on the bust would appear to be abysmally small, but I have gotten several Ruby Candlefly Gatherings from Hollowjack with better frequency than plunder skulls thus far if that interests anyone.

I've done the quest once a day since the festival began, and it only dropped for me today. I thick its maybe a case of persistence paying off.

It does generally appear to be pure RNG.
