A new UI in ESO?

Game designer Billy Yin showed off a sample UI mockup for the Elder Scrolls Online game. The recording was published last year.
Would you like to see a UI like this in a game? I personally think that this UI is not bad, if we take into account ONLY the standard UI without addons

P.S - This screenshot is publicly available on Billy Yin's artstation

It looks nice, but is impractical as you would need to look at left upper corner to see how much HP you have or stam/magic to use any skill.

The default UI places those bars where you can see with a glance what is happening (HP suddenly gets very low or you have a drain on your PC HP from a mid ranged NPCs), in Stonefall you will have those smaller creatures that can drain HP, so it is important to have an UI that show what is going on before it is too late.

On PC you can use add on that let you place those bars where you would want them (or hide them until you need to put attention for how those bars getting lower) and also how they look to some degree.

In RPGs this kind of pretty looking bars is often more a hindrance to actually know what is happening when your HP or resources are getting low. FPS for most part have better designed UI as player are meant to react and act on provided info from on screen UI, then RPGs where sometimes it is too much of decoration then actually useful information.

Happy with the current version, thanks. 7 years in, I'm not wanting to have to relearn the whole shebang.

    No, thank you.

What's fine with me is making npcs less static during conversations, if it makes sense storywise. Depending on the situation, they don't have to just stand there and stare at us.

Personally I would far rather be given choices of both looks and where things can go.

So if I want the dialogue on the right side of the screen, I can have it show up there, or if I want the health to be in the upper right corner I can put it there.

I'm actually liking how that looks in the screenshot. I don't think it'd be a good idea to change ESO's UI to that, but I certainly wouldn't mind an addon for this!

That UI looks ok, although IMO the bars are too bright which make them look out of place, I don't like that the ends are uneven (is it saying they have more magicka than usual, or is it just for aesthetics?) and the class symbol seems redundant as I assume the player will know what class they're playing.

I also don't particularly like that the responses are so far from the dialogue, and above it. (I know that's a trivial point, but if it was up to me I'd prefer the response to be below the thing it's responding to.)

As for the games default UI I'm largely fine with it. I do use the Azurah addon to be able to resize and move it, but the main thing I've done is move the notification text to just above the chat box so it's not in the way. Too many times I couldn't clearly see the resolution of a quest because the screen was filled with an achievement notification letting me know I'd finished the quest (which I already knew, because I was there when I did it). I've also added a mini map and hidden the compass when I'm not using it (which is most of the time) but that's about it.

Not even talking how exceptionally bad this is I'm puzzled about this post, that's a random "designer" with one follower on artstation and no actual work there but couple sketches and mock-ups. That's like exploring "work" of fiction writes and artists about argonian maids and erotic khajiiti drawings on devianart.

I should have checked the Artstation page first... You're right.

Writing "Game designer Billy Yin" in the first post sounded to me like this was someone from ZOS presenting an early or alternative UI concept for the game.

That's why I've checked, as it sounded like it had something to do with zos in some way. Gladly it wasn't, but the post is bit strange regardless.

Is there any argument that it doesn't work there or is it easier to say it doesn't?

It would have been better to mention that the person who made that picture does not belong to ZOS. I mean, of course everyone can make concepts and suggestions. But for the players it is important to know how likely it is that ZOS works with them. Which is given when it's made by a ZOS employee, but not if it is a random picture from someone on the internet.

No thank you I find the placement of the health and resource bars to be inconvenient to look at, in that example, much prefer to have them where they are now.

I really like the resource bars at the lop-left of the screen, because it looks a lot cleaner that way IMO, and that's how most other games have always done it for the past ~40 years.

The resource bars being on the bottom-center of the screen is usually specific to MMO's (or other games that have a bunch of ability buttons on the screen), because all of that info wouldn't fit at the top-left of the screen.

I agree, I also want to see the numbers, then I know if out of food.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I hate the reply window being stuck halfway up the side of the screen well away from the NPC chat. I assume that would be capable of being moved, however.

I'm fine with the present UI and see no need to change it. Addons cater for those albeit only on PC who want more info like a mini-map but I don't need anything beyond the original UI, and if more information was included as standard then I would want it to be optional.

If you’re on PC and prefer a minimal/modern look that still respects the basic features of the base UI, the addon called Dark UI is perfect.

I use the light theme, and I love it.
