Why aren't there capes/cloaks and dragon mounts?

Why were the capes/cloaks never added?

All the character designs in the teasers and artworks have one but then why can't they be seen in the game?

ob8hs9y0dvss.png

There is a slot before the jewel slots, theoretically there is space to insert them and they would make the game characters cooler and why not, they could also give additional bonuses (but I don't want to expect more).

Also I'm wondering, when are you going to include a dragon mount that maybe even has the ability to glide? (I realize the flight would be too much).
I'd say a good base to start from would be the Cliff Strider or the Clannfear...or a mix, if don't want to reduce the size of a dragon.

It would be interesting if to get it we would have to kill a dragon or steal an egg. In short, a quest that entertains us players.
I hope the developers take my idea into consideration.

Dragons are too smart to allow some low life adventurer to ride them. They must be a higher caliber adventurer than what we find in Tamriel in the 2nd Era.

I've been hoping for a gliding mount for a while too, since 'in theory' it could work the same as a normal mount.

I'd even settle for a Wamasu mount. :)

I'm pretty sure the cape issue has been nixed for a bunch of technical reasons. There are probably threads on it, but I'm too lazy to search, and I haven't had my muffin.

Thanks, I didn't know it had already been made as a proposal. But nowadays there are elements that could make me think better. For example, they have introduced sets of armor and clothes with backpacks or sets that have leg covers with more freedom of movement.

The same tricks could be used for cloaks.

As for the question of dragons, I was referring to a similar animal, precisely like the Cliff or the Clannfear, as they did with the griffin mount

Capes and cloaks would be cool, but I don't think that's a possibility at all with the game engine.

Dragons in the Elder Scrolls are not the same as generic fantasy dragons:

There is no credible story of how dragons came to be. According to dremora that the College of Whispers have "questioned," they just were, and are. Eternal, immortal, unchanging, and unyielding. They are not born or hatched. They do not mate or breed. There are no known examples of dragon eggs or dragonlings.

I am open to dragon-like mounts though!!
You have discovered the thirty-seventh Sermon of Vivec, which is a bending of the light, long past the chronicles of the Hortator who wore inconstant faces and ruled however they would, until apocalypse.

That slot you've circled is for disguises - lot of quests in the game use disguises. And yes, there was a thread just a couple of weeks back, same ol' same ol'. There's enough clipping etc with what little physics are in game now, no thanks to cloaks.

They weren't even good in Skyrim....

It's still a slot, if you need to use a disguise, take off the cloak and put on the dress. It's easy.

Among other things, I don't ask for them to flutter in the wind even if it would be nice but I realize the limitations of the physics engine

like all the skirts and light armor of the Ebony set, I don't see the problem, it exists and there are players who choose it.

Capes would require advanced Physics and the Game already runs bad as it is. (On consoles that is)

Just put on a long robe and walk around in it. You will see immediately why Capes won't work.

according to your principle then long tunics shouldn't even work, yet they exist and players choose them. I repeat, what is the problem? If you don't like it, don't use it on your character but why eliminate the possibility of choosing who wants to wear his character with a cape. I find it all very selfish.

if the problem is the game engine, they shouldn't even have made the long tunics or the Breton hero style, don't you think?

I would be curious to have an answer from a developer rather than from geeks like us.

I can understand why we don't have dragon mounts (especially flying ones), but I would definitely like to see an accessory/cosmetic slot for capes, hoods, cloaks, etc. they don't even need to be a stat item, they can just be purely cosmetic.

    Can hide weapons like that.

I would say that a result like this would be more than acceptable with the game engine available.

Maybe in 2013 this wouldn't have been possible but a few things have changed since then

They didn't like the way they looked and animated, and they wanted to have weapons docked on the back. Limited skeleton bones in DX9 were a contributing factor, and that was the base level of DirectX they were supporting at launch. Thus, capes were removed before launch. This was explained by a technical artist at a presentation at GDC a few years back.

They no longer support DX9, but that does not mean that they want to go back and redo all of the old character models to take advantage of the additional capabilities afforded by DX10 and DX11.

The "problem" with the game engine is that they apparently never included cloth physics in the clients. Rumor is that Havok physics is used, but not included in the client. If they did not need it, they had little reason to include it. Could they add cloth physics to the game clients? Possibly. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Personally, I think the core issue is whether they want to, not whether they can.

Forgive me but the previous post shows you that it is feasible and is done and that there is no need to resume the old models. The screenshots don't lie.

I agree with you that if they want, they can.

As I said in the other recent thread about capes.....

I have already stopped using many hairstyles because the way they react/clip with the top of my armour/ costumes annoys the hell out of me.

I see capes causing a lot of very similar issues, therefore they are of no interest to me. We have enough issues already with floating weapons, shoulders and hip flaps.

Ever noticed your daggers are not connected to your body in any way? I have and now on that character it is all I see!!

I just think they would impact the overall appearance of the game negatively. 😕

Same. The flaps and weird clipping issues look ridiculous. If they were to fix things, recode the game, and/or use a different engine to remove those problems. Then yes, but if so. I'd want to see more important changes done first, like completely fixing Cyrodiil, trails and dungeons before a cosmetic change.

    Never used this a lot.

well if that's the case, usually in reality daggers and swords have sheaths XD... but I don't think it's a problem for many of you XD.
It also depends on the setting of your graphics card and how much processing it can handle. Of course, when I play with a minimum setting, sometimes I don't even see the walls and I play as if I had cheats, seeing crates and other things that would otherwise be hidden by obstacles.

It is a problem for me, why don't they have sheaths? Were they too difficult to add? If they were then surely the lack of capes points to similar difficulties?

    I'll change the question.

why are there no cloaks AND SHEATHS? XD

Anyway maybe it's the same problem, I don't know. This is why I asked but there are elements in game that make me think they could be implemented (see my previous screenshots)
